FF3 and FF6 is a little weird because in the US and europe FF6 was called FF3, so it's not very clear. There is also FF mystic quest for the snes.

FF6 or 3 was the best IMO because from 7 on, the characters became all anime-ish and little girls started to like the games, whereas FF6 is the pinnacle of old school gaming. You could imagine what the characters looked like, and the story was told through the same graphics as the game, instead of the cheap FMV's we see in the newer FF's, and the result of that, was the story had to be more imaginative and the characters had to have more depth to make up for the lack of graphics to impress people. Don't misunderstand me, FF7 is an okay game, and very enjoyable, but FF6 has more... class.

And I have always had a thing for sprites. They own polygons.

They are a comparable style and quality, plus they are both made by square... Anyway, in my humble opinion, it is the best RPG ever made.
