Refresh my memory as to what "binder paper" is.
Are we talking about spiral-bound writing notebooks with those blue lines running across to write on? Last I heard, that kind of paper isn't allowed around here.

Lined paper is still not allowed. If you saw some posted on the main site, it was either a mistake or the lines were removed to an acceptable level. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

A long time ago, "No lined paper" wasn't a rule, so there may be some lined pictures from that era still hanging around. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Ah, I see. Enforcement may vary slightly when it comes to subjective rules. I mean, where do we define an "acceptable level"? It's not as cut-and-dry an issue as, say, category placement.
"Exhibit" A - Drawn on lined paper. Scanned in color. Artist cleaned up most of the lines, a few remain that could probably be filtered out with more work.
"Exhibit" B - Drawn on regular notebook paper. Photographed with a digital camera.
"Exhibit" C - Regular notebook paper, scanned in color, no cleanup. The paper's lines are a dark hue, dark enough to be annoying.
"Exhibit" D - Regular notebook paper, color, no cleanup. The lines are of a lighter shade than in Exhibit C, less distracting.
Overall IMHO: Four lined drawings, out of 309 Sunday submissions, really ain't that bad. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

hmm, whoever approved the examples may have been on line for a long time and became fatigued. I try to put at least an hour in after work. the first surely shows an attempt to rid the lines, but by now all should know that lined paper isnt accepted, so dont put anything in with lines while Im on. especially dont put the same picture up a half hour later, without the corrections I suggested, and think it will be approved! but anyhow, Im sure if anyones work was scrutinized there would be flaws. no ones God! Ive seen it for too many countless years as an industrial manager, people are human and make mistakes. lets not focus on someones mistakes and just try not make some ourselves.
oh and please crop your pictures too! I do give suggestions on how to do it with MSP (cause it is free with windows, so most have the little program) on rejection notices. we have aload of great artists here bustin thier butts too put up quality, and even if an artist is new to it or just not as tallented, it dosnt mean you can post any piece of ^$#@$% and it will be approved. have some deciency to the others on the site and make sure your best effort was put into the presentation of your work, please!
people are human and make mistakes.
It's also true that when somebody makes a mistake that other can see, they have a tendency to feel stupider than it really is.
It's like what ya said, if somebody's up late, fatigueds, busy, etc., it's reasonable to expect a stumble here and there. FAC averages what, 300+ approved pics per day? If we pretend that there are 6 approval panel members online once during any 24-hour period, this would mean that each panel member on average goes through and approves 50 pics per day. That alone could be reason enough for fatigue ;)

Is proper cropping a criteria for approval? Sometimes I wish it were. With the new auto-resize feature, when a picture's not properly cropped this means that it'll be resized to a smaller scale than it needs to be. A little bit's okay, but when you see a drawing that's 80% blank space and only 20% has anything drawn on it, that's a bit much.... Most scanning software itself should have some means to crop an image at scan-time, and even after that like you say even Paint can crop images!
Heck, with the right resolution, sometimes you don't even need to resize a picture (manual or auto alike) if all you do is crop it properly! _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

cropping excess space seems to not have an exact pct to it. I was really concerned with the scanning of binder rings and edges left from binder rings or photos of art with half the picture is the table it was laying on. if the artist dosnt want to take the 30 seconds to crop by computer, then it is easy enough to use a pair of sissors and cut the edges off before scanning to rid the picture of binder markings. just like lined paper, it to me shows how much you care about your art presentation.
I will keep rejecting pieces not properly presented till Im told otherwise, but I feel it helps FAC as a whole to have everyone (great or limited in skill) to have good quality presentations to be side to side with.
now my moaning session: please people put in some work for Denis to get the merchandise going! thanx, Bruce _________________ 'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.' - Ronald Reagan |

Workin' on it. Been dealing with a horrific beginning of the year and some computer issues (virus, adware, dunno...), but it's nearly done. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Yes cropping is necessary for approval.
I dont think it needs to be overly picky, but if its like 80% whitespace it really should be rejected. _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

Is proper orientation a requirement too?
BTW, I ran across this a little while ago. Pretty interesting read.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
