Upon browsing the test forums, i ran into an interesting discussion upon japenese food, and thought it would be just lovely to start a discussion to discuss what you like about your culture.

I, being italian, admire the closeness brought upon by family.

I recall a topic about cultures in the past, but with the amount of new wonderful members, which on my behalf, id like to welcome to this site, might not have had the pleasure of discussing this particular subject.

I sincerely doubt the average FAC member will have something meaningfull to say about cultures, that actually interests other people. Not all of them have had classes in cultural anthropology after all.

Normally I would say I appreciate the general tolerance dutch people have towards other cultures/ethnic groups, but lately due to the unrest in the world (caused for a major part by a certain president in a certain country where they speak english, and is on an other continent that is not australia) I'm not too sure about this any more. So I choose my mother's french side and say I appreciate the fine cultural refinement us french have.

But in all seriousness those are stereotypes. The only thing you can really compare are behavioral codes of conduct and traditions/folklore in certain regions. In this sense, I doubt that any of the FAC members has different moral codes to live by, because I'd say 99% if not more, lives in the western world.

i'm japanese and i love sushi (especially tuna) and love the how there's a festival every summer (although i never been to one for a long time). and the mangas are cheap!!!! but the laws are crappy in japan so there's gangs (aka: yakuza) all over japan. there's also too many suicides and then the bullying in schools are much brutal than in america

Well, I'm a Filipina(female Filipino) and very proud of it indeed.

I like the foods native to our place. They are healthier than the foods here in the U.S., but that doesn't mean I do not enjoy the U.S. foods. It's also a good thing our culture emphasizes respect. We have close family ties and broken families are not as rampant as it is here.

I enjoy the traditions we have, like the fiestas and folkdances. Even though I avoid dances in every chance I can, I enjoy dancing our native folkdances. It's just a simple pleasure that means a lot.

Hmm... I think it's interesting to learn about other cultures, and try foods from other cultures, too... don't really like sushi, and haven't really tried any... Filipino foods?? I don't know what kinds of foods you would eat, honestly... I'd be interested to try some...

I'm come from good ol' German Mennonite background... We're generally fairly religious, following a Christian faith... I don't speak it, but some of my older relatives, like grandparents and such, speak Low German, which is MUCH different than High German, what they speak in Germany, mostly... Hmm... the older women wear long dresses often and dueks (not sure if that's how it's spelt, but it's basically a kerchief)... my grandparents only got a TV about 6 years ago... umm... I also have some German Mennonite foods I eat, like sommaborscht (soup made with farmer sausage, potatoes, onions, and broth made with cream/buttermilk with dill), roll kucken (pan fried dough, good to eat with jam and watermelon), and I drink buttermilk with salt and pepper... yup drink it just like regular milk *grin* the last is DEFINITELY a Saskatchewan/Mennonite thing... mmm *wants a glass*
