Thi site needs a rating system for people to rate your picture slike 9 or 10. It is better than comments because comments require so much time and effort and allso requires javascriot (which I don't have). so how about it who lieks the idea? |

That used to exist but was never finished.
I'm not sure I'm crazy about the idea. DeviantART used to have something similar before the upgrade where you'd choose "like" "somewhat like" or "dislike". In my opinion, I hated that because almost everyone who picked "dislike" or "somewhat like" gave no reasons. If someone thinks my image is a 5 (for example) I'd like to know what's wrong with it. It's also a lot easier to abuse someone's gallery by rating all their pictures a 1 and messing up the average than just leaving nasty comments that can be deleted (and reported).
Comments do require time and effort, and that's what makes them really nice to get. I know I appreciate someone taking the time to write a nice, well thought out comment rather than just "cool". No doubt I'm happy that person liked it, of course, just saying more detailed comments are helpful.
As for the commenting system being java...dunno. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

There were technicial problems with that so i scrapped it. I may get it working someday
problems:
People will just give them several 10's and its hard to track people to keep them from cheating.
Didn't find a good way to store and calculate the score.
Instead I have setup another way of rating pictures which I will not reveal, but if you look on the site stats page, you will see 'Most popular Artist', 'Most popular picture', and 'Most popular story' _________________ You will obey or molten silver will be poured into your ears. |

I'm not to hot with that idea. Denis is right in that poeple could just put certain ratings in over and over to get what they want or think someone deserves.
Also, Otaku.com had the same thing or similar, where you just said whether you like it or not, and depending on how many yes and no's you got, the picture would come up a a percentage. Problem with that and similar ratings, is that some amazing art can get as low as 65% rating T_T Which i've noticed on some stuff that should have had like a 85%.
Otaku.com only just recently a comment system avaliable, and personally, if you admire someones work in the first place, taking a moment to write a comment isn't a big deal. If it is, then i don't think you really fully appreciate or have much to say to hte artist. And being an artist (none of my work is up here at the moment due to lack of time) myself, i love getting the comments. And when someone leaves me a comment one a piece of work i spent time on, then it makes me appreciate that work just that much more, and thankful there i have a person kind enough to take their own time to write a small comment. Tell me their opinions, what i might do to improve or give me ideas in general. Nothings better to an artist really.
If maybe Denis was up to putting a number system on the side, i guess it wouldn't be so bad, but the idea that someone might be able to vote more than once on my work, would make me uncomfortable. I don't care whether they would give me a 0 hundred times over or a 10, i just want a clean cut comment or vote, and nothing over done and cheating. That's my opinion on it though. |

Yeeeeeeah...I don't like that idea either T.T;;
I used to go to Media Miner, they had a system like that too. I put up one picture that on FAC got a lot of good comments, but on MM, you can review annonymously.
Two people (both annonymous) reviewed giving REALLY low scores. judging by their comments that they left, it sounded like the only reason why they didn't like the picture was because of the pairing (kids have gone PSYCHO obsessive over fan-couples these days....)
so yeah, a lot of people would rate based on their personal opinions on the subject of the picture itself, rather than the quality or style etc.
T.T so..I vote down on that one. n.n but Kudos to you for being bold enough to give suggestions!!
(ps- those two comments, considering it was a month after I originally posted, and it was one right after the other....and how they write, etc, etc....I'm pretty sure it was the same person T.T;;;;; w/e) |

Yeah... people at Mediaminer bug me... nothing I ever posted there got any good comments. Mostly like an "i don't like it" comment without a reason why, so I deleated most of my stuff here and don't post anymore. People here are so much nicer. _________________

I don't like the idea of rating pictures. I mean, really. No. I didn't like it when it was here, and I don't support bringing it back.
I think it's much better to leave a comment, that "takes more time and effort", because if you really appreciate the artist's work, you can take 30 seconds to write a little note, saying you like the picture and why.
...I mean, is it really that much to ask, when many of the artists here spend hours, days, even WEEKS on a single piece of art? Is a minute too much to ask? I think not.
Cheers~ |

I'm against the idea of having such a rating system.
I used to think a rating system would be cool, but I realy don't think I'd trust people enough. And I wouldn't want to see a handful of obsesive people who we know exist start giving bad ratings to members they don't like or are jelous of. Hell, can you imagine giving Inu Yasha fangirls that power? Uuuuuugh! "Omigod! Get Kagome off of him! *gives good artist a 1 because she dislikes Kagome, or any femail character, come to think of it*" That would be a nightmare.
How about creating a list of contest winners, though? Or maybe a section of a person's profile oficialy listing contest winnings that only mods and such can edit (so that ass holes don't make stuff up)? These would be far more afective in showing people's artistic status and giving people a chance to work for a higher status, with little risk of sabatoge(sp?). Plus, a lot of contests don't ofer any sort of prise, so then it's like 'what's the point'...this would make entering contests more worthwhile, and would probably get people to try harder, too. Wich means less lazynes from some artists. (We've all seen pics that would be Fantastic with just a little more time and effort, but instead are merely mediocre.(sp? damnit! >_<) |

Oh yeah, I like the idea of a clear list of past contest winners (maybe a short list as to why they were chosen)
I know right now in the "contest" section on the site we have past winners n.n Hope we keep that up. |

Well, when/if actual contests continue. Besides the merch ones, which the winners will be quite obvious. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
