I didn't. We all stated our opinions, and it was you who, instead of simply stating your opinion of her, went off scrutinizing everyone else.

You're the ones who started it by going all off and saying what a whore, tramp and "sex kitten" (that's new to me) she is. I simply argued the fact that your opinions are different from mine. Just because I'm the only one who spoke out doesn't mean you have to act all pissy about it.
But to prevent this from turning into a, "You started it," "No, YOU started it," affair... I'll just take credit for it. Whatever, I don't give a f**k really. |

If you've seen the way she dresses and a portion of her lyrics, you can't argue that it's easy for her to come off that way to people. People on this forum tend to go with the easiest description to save time, get used to it or you'll be spending a lot of time sounding like a jerk. "She dresses too mature for her age" is far more time consuming and awkward than "She looks like a whore". Simple, to the point, don't take it too seriously.

Oh I don't. I'm just trying to make it frustrating for you people so you reply and I reply back etc. so my post count goes up.
By the way, no one answered me when I asked: "What aweful sexy language music does she speak?" Heloooooooooo! I want to know, I've been listening an entire day to the Jojo hip-hop poop and I haven't heard anything wrong.
She does dress to kill either. All I see is either her in a sleeveless girly dress all the time. What the hell? Where's the seduction in that? She doesn't even dress sexy when she's preformed live. Please set me straight because right now all I hear is b/s, b/s, b/s. I really want to see it your way, that's why I've continued to debate. However, until I see the sex lyrics etc., I'd have to call you on this one. |

Her lyrics are not blatantly horrible like some other artists. Whoever implied that was mistaken or didn't phrase what they were saying properly. But the topics she discusses in her lyrics are not age appropriate. Bar-hopping, dating much older guys, being used for sex, etc. etc. etc. I made a whole post about her lyrics, and that's as much as I care to say about them because they're a pain in the ass to read.
Whoever designed her site must really not want people to enjoy it. When will people learn that a fancy flash site with a bunch of bells and whistles is no longer impressive and pretty much just annoying? Her makeup and style is done up to make her appear older than she is. The pouty lips, makeup, shirts off the shoulder, all very sex-driven looks. Is she rolling around in a school uniform? No. Half naked? No. Sexual image? Most definitely. No one accused her of running around half naked offering blow jobs. If you took it that way...well...meh. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Makeup!? That's what you're all so hyped up about? Lol Fallen, you're my bud and all but that's kinda lame If you're going to do this right make up something like, "She doesn't wear panties on stage." That'll win the argument B)
Makeup... sheesh. |

I respect Jojo for making it where she is right now, even if she is fading out.
If she wants to dress like a whore, let her. Because you know what? It' s HER image. If she wants to portray herself as a little sex kitten, then that's her problem. If she wants to lose respect for her music and not be taken seriously, then by all means, let her.
While you may think pop is all about boyfriends and crushes, that isn't always true. Half the time it is, but I have heard some pretty decent pop-ish songs. Ones that could relate to all ages. Actually, I don't think Hilary Duff's song, "Fly" is that bad.
I don't know what type of rock you guys are listening to, but I've heard very sexual comments in their songs, just like pop and hip/hop can. I'm talking in general here. And the kind of sexual comments I'm talking about...they were very direct. Then again, I have heard a lot of awesome rock songs too, that wasn't sexual.
What I guess I'm saying is...whatever floats your boat. Every type of music is different, and not everyone is going to like the type you like, or the person down the street likes. Every type of music has its pro's and con's. |

Our rockers are older than her, however. Think 20-40 year old range. This kid is just that: a kid.
I've used some stuff, but mine has to do with a temporary drug usage in the seventh grade. Actually, ONE song deals with that. Not plesant.
Actually, half the time, it isn't. More than likely, 23% of the time, it's legit. Hilary doesn't write her own lyrics. JoJo may, but I still don't like them.
But, true, whatever makes you happy, go for it. We're only giving opinions and fact here.

And if she wants to dress like a sex kitten, LET US TALK ABOUT HER AS SUCH. Fucking hell, what is so hard to understand about this? We've criticized her for what she is and what she portrays herself as. If she's a great innocent person, la di da, that's not what she portrays to the public.
As for the makeup thing, yes it is the makeup. A 13-year-old girl in heavy Playboy makeup is disgusting. There's one reason to look like that, and it's not "to feel pretty". It's like wearing a skimpy dress and fuck-me heels, only one reaction comes from that and anyone who dresses that way has no right to complain about it.
No shit there's sexual lyrics in rock music. My favorite genre was 50% sex, 25% drugs, but it was honest. Those boys were screwing anything with a pulse and spent a good portion of their lives on stage, a needle in their arm, or balls deep in some cheap whore. I have no problem with sex in rock, sex is a huge portion of what rock music is. It's sexual. Take that away and it's boring. A 13-year-old girl does not compare to a 23-year-old guy.
Why does everyone always think a "to each their own" statement solves everything? Buy her records, worship the ground she walks on, it doesn't matter. We're not saying you can't like her, we're saying what she is. If you don't have a problem with a trampy looking 13-year-old singing about bar-hopping, good for you, enjoy. But it's what she is, and whether or not you like her doesn't change that. I could write up just as many problems with any band I like. No one is perfect, whether they're your favorite or not. What you like is completely separate from your technical opinions of them. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Well, yeah. People ARE going to talk about her, for bending into the media and dressing and acting well over her age. That's all this society is ABOUT today. Sex, porn, money, drugs, etc...and if she wants to dress like that, then yeah, people can talk.
I was speaking in general when I said that both rock and pop have sexual comments in them. Britney Spears is perfectly legal to talk about sex just as much as rockers can.
Right, I don't really have a problem with what she's doing, because, one, I don't listen to her, and two, it isn't exactly my reputation on the line. I'm saying, she can do whatever she wants to because she's the one who'll take the slack for it, not her producers, not her make-up artists. |

The difference between Britney and 99% of rock artists is this.
Rock musicians, while singing about sex, also wrote the lyrics (in a lot of cases very good lyrics), played the instruments, and relied on a combination of skill and performance to sell themselves.
Teen pop artists do not write their own lyrics (generally speaking, "co-wrote" means they sat down with a pro writer and agreed or disagreed with their ideas. Not always, but most.), sing a melody they did not write, and sell an image. The music means nothing. You could take one teen pop artist's song and give it to another and it would be just as sell-able because it's manufactured to be that way. They're selling the pretty face. Even those that do write their own lyrics, those lyrics are almost always average at best. But they're pretty, and someone who is a good lyricist and singer but not as attractive is not as marketable.
People don't have a problem with them selling sex. It's the fact that's all they're selling. The music is mediocre and sells because it's catchy. Does that mean no one can like it? Course not, obviously someone out there is buying it. But it doesn't change what it is. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Then you're probably dressing like them. Look at Jojo carefully.... Then look at Buffy Tyler. I see a slight resemblance, no?
Eye candy is the description. Her voice is annoying and I know many people who can sing way better than her. They may never see her fame because of their appearance.

I've noticed that too guys, I can't see how Jojo is trying to "sell sex." I mean, what's wrong with looking good? Ok, I guess every pop artist has to be equally as ugly as you to be accepted right.
Lol.
And what you're saying about hip-hop artists is disrespectful, you're saying that singing isn't a talent. Can you sing like an angel? Can you hit those high notes? Hell, if you can do you think that means every man, woman and animal in the world can? The answer is no. These pop artists took singing and voice classes all their lives and you're telling them, "So f**king what." It's not cool guys.
People buy hip-hop music because they like the singing, rythm and catchy beats. You don't go to a hooker looking for her to fix you dinner, do you? |

Good god... I don't care why people like her! It doesn't matter. She is was she is, and if people like it, good for them.
Where's the sexual image? I already specified. There's nothing wrong with an attractive musician (nor do I have anything against the sex kitten look...Hello Donna D'Errico...). The issue is she's 13 years old with a fashion statement of a much older girl. Her all around image is trying to make her seem older than she is (the look and lyrics), and if a real 13-year-old doesn't sell, then they should wait until they're older.
"Today's standard" is not based on 13-year-old girls. No one was claiming Jojo is not wearing underwear with her (semi)tits falling out all the time like Lindsey Lohan. But just because she isn't the worst doesn't make her ok. Y'all have your panties in a bunch over such a stupid issue. So people called her a whore, so what? It's a fast description for the image she conveys. No one should have to research an artist to determine what they are. "Oh, she's wearing electrical tape for a shirt, but look, she spends her saturdays at a soup kitchen...clearly that cancels out the first part"
As for the singing thing, I am saying so fucking what when it comes to recording artists. I know many pop star-quality singers. Tons. They've got the range, strength, experience, all that. But that's all they are. They sing other people's songs well. So? You don't see anyone else getting famous for covering some other instrument? Someone coming along being worshipped for playing Eruption? If you didn't write it, no one cares how well you can perform it. Prove you can write something so skilled and then take the credit. (when it comes to pop stars who do write lyrics, 95% of them aren't exactly fabulous) _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

The sexual image is still not there, because a 13 year old wears makeup and a skirt doesn't make her a whore. And she is talented for just singing alone. Right nwo you saying that almost all fo R&b is crap because they don't compose there own songs or write all of them. I mean this isn't rock, this is r&B. And the biggest thing that matters in r&b music to most people is the vocal talent the artist has. And Jojo has got that. If you want lyrics and composition just don't listen to most r&b. Only a few artist produce most of their stuff these days anyway, so to say oh she is a slut who doesn't make her own music is basically senseless |

Would we all shut up about R&B because it's NOT the POINT. Seriously. If you wanted my actual opinion, compared to one person I know, she sounds like a first grader trying to sing Whitney Houston. There are more talented people.
Excuse me? Have you SEEN the R&B section ANYWHERE? There are thousands. Doesn't R&B stand for rhythm and blues? There are THOUSANDS. Great, you can sing. I don't care. Why is it that people don't read over one's opinions? I think it's been clearly stated that:
We don't like her because we've heard her and DON'T LIKE HER.
So the industry means s**t right now. It's our opinions on her appearence and talent. Because we've seen better talent, and her appearence looks like a whore I know, I don't think she's as special as you all give her credit for.
But that's my OPINION. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

I don't deny that she can't sing... I won't deny that there are some pop singers who are can sing... It does take talent to sing, I know that... It just that there are tons of young girls who can sing being put into the industry instead of people who can sing, play an instrument and write music and lyrics... I know someone who's much more talented than she is...
The sexual image is still not there, because a 13 year old wears makeup and a skirt doesn't make her a whore
No, makeup and skirts doesn't make you a whore, but when you wear skirts like THIS, you wear them for only one reason, in my mind: because you want to show off your legs and have people look at them... I don't like those barely-cover-your-ass skirts because they seem to convey one thing: sex and sex appeal... she may not dress as bad as Christina Aguilera or Britney, but that doesn't make the way she does dress okey... and it's not just clothes, it's body language, too...
Only a few artist produce most of their stuff these days anyway, so to say oh she is a slut who doesn't make her own music is basically senseless
No, actually, that's not senseless, that's stating what's true... maybe she's not a slut, but when you dress like one, that's the image you convey... and she doesn't make her own music... sure, she wrote a couple of her song lyrics.... okay is this better??
Oh, she LOOKS like a slut doesn't make MUCH of her own music... |
