I can't tell if nominations are done strictly by people who work on the site, but one way or the other, I would like to suggest beastofoblivion for nomination. I ran across her work a few days ago, and she is one of my favorites by far.

I believe it's Lasher who maintains the listing of nominees, and between each month they choose two from the list. I wonder who it's going to be for August . . . . _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Slot should definately be the artist of the month. Or atleast be recognized. He hasn't posted much lately, one picture in two months I think. Well, Slot is a good artist, and deserves to be recognized, but definately not the artist of the month :)
I think a new rule should be put forth, I think the Artist of the Month should contribute art constantly or at a good pace throughout the monts he/she is choosen. I mean, why pick a candidate who hasn't posted anything in 2, 3, 4 or more months? What's the point of being Artist of the Month if you didn't do anything that month :)
Just a little thing to look into. |

*had not submitted anything when she was artist of the month* And still didn't right up until the last few days of the month, too. I think it's just more a standard amount of time to recognize someone for, not necessarily dependent on whether or not anything was submitted. For one thing, that's WAY too much work. All the candidates stay in the pool once they're nominated. Lasher has enough trouble checking candidates without having to look before every drawing whether or not they've submitted any art in a month.
Now if the person appears to have completely left the site or something, then it's kinda pointless to nominate them. But as someone who goes months without finishing anything worthy of upload, I don't think it should depend on that. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Well, I thought it would make sense. I mean, you don't win the title "Best Musical Artist of 2004," by not putting out any songs, albums or whatnot in 2003 or 2004, now do you? Winning the Best Employee of the Month of January without doing anything (slacking off) durring January is pretty stupid isn't it?
It wouldn't take too long to check whether or not the nominee has uploaded any worthy art. I mean, once Lasher picks them, just log on, check to see if they've posted anything in a while (last picture uploaded - check the date) and if it's dated way back in January 2004, either remove them from the pile and draw a new one or put the name back into the draw space and then draw a new artist. Simple, no?
But by any accord (sp?), you don't have to take my suggestion, I thought it would just make sense. |

There's a flaw though. These artist can become very busy and this unable to upload regularly. Some of the artist nominated don't upload much for many reasons. Jobs, school, ability to access a scanner and such. And sometimes they can have writers block. Quite often these artist will submit at a decent rate, others they will submit a large amount in a short amount of time. And then there are times they will go for months without submitting for whatever reasons.
We aren't saying they are the artists of the month for what they submitted that month. They were merely choosen as the winners that month. For what they all ready had posted and what work they all ready put forward. We're trying to reqard them and show our appreciation for all the work they've all ready done. Not necessarily the work their doing now or will.

That's not what the title is about. By that standard, it'd be a contest of who did the best work in any given month. It's about overall work and can be won at any time. Lasher does check the nominees before adding them to see if they're still active members. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Yes, that is true. When they are first nominated for the chance to win, they are checked to see they have been around the site in at least the past 6 months, have a fair number of pieces up (nothing like 2-5 things T_T ) and that they all match quality in work. No stick figures then high quality CG's and such. And for the most part, i try and put up the new nominees that i've looked over and accept for the other staff to look at if they wish. Sometimes they might know something i don't and i prefer to keep from having a thief win or someone who is tracing.
And when i get to the winning names, i do tend to go look at their gallery before announcing it just by habit. lol. ^_^ |

Like fallen says, this is a drawing, not an election. All that matters is if a person's on the list or not, the site staff will pick one from there.
Hmmm . . . what the heck. I'll nominate BlackWolf just to give her a chance.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

All names are put on a slip of paper, and two are chosen RANDOMLY by Lasher. Nominating someone who has already been added will NOT put their name in again, nor will it increase their chances in any way of being drawn

Not that it really makes a difference, but all of you "voting" for ren_fan, more or less just gives a bad impression of ren_fan. Which by the way, made herself known to me in all the wrong ways (a.k.a, she pissed me off) And i don't know wether she told any of you or not to "vote" for her, but if she in fact did... *shakes head* nevermind, not worth it <_<
I'd also like to add onto what the others pointed out all ready on how the winners are choosen. See, thing is, you can nominate someone (not vote <_< ) for artists of the month as a possible future winner, but it's just that. Possibly.
Just because you nominate them, doesn't mean they make it onto the list, and have their names written down and put into the drawing bag (nifty name eh? i wasn't feeling creative)
Everytime a new name comes up for nominations, i go through, look em' up, and see if they're worthy. We're looking for the lesser known artists, with outstanding work. Does that mean you suck if you aren't added? No, you weren't just nominated more than likely, or your good in fact, just not that good, or your not one of those who aren't known. ren_fan for example, is known pretty much around the place, wether she's fantastic or not (yes i know her stuff, yes i looked it up again just now, she's not bad, i'll give her that but she ain't no adanhen or ninkira or jessie or kate) So unless i think they're pretty damn good, and need more reconigtion because they're just so damn good and don't get enough credit for their work, chances are, i won't put them on the list.
And should i ever not be sure about wether i shoul or shouldn't put a name on the list, i make a note of it for other Site Helpers to add their opinions on. |

I would like to nominate an artist on Fanart that is a little more different and unique. my good online friend Sliver ^_^ i didn't take the time to see if anyone else nominated her but i just thought i would give it a shot. She seems to be greatly admired by the more "dark" members on FAC <_< but i think more people should recongize her artwork, its truly amazing, she can create such beautiful and orginal artwork using the most simple art supplys and such. anyways im rambling _________________ I'm just a simple MEGGY MAE. |

If they're not already on the list, I'd like to nominate WolfOfTheSteppes for a chance to win. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Note: I deleted a number of post for going off topic, or having to inform someone and a group of how this works. And seeing as how it was done, i saw no need to keep it around since it was first explained at the beginning of this thread, and it's just two more pages for me to have to go through every month when doing teh awards
And no, not everyone's posts were wrong or bad. I just didn't want all the replies to others confusing people and causing more off topic posts in the future.
Also, if you make stupid, random comments in this or any other Site Discussion thread *looks at JB* seeing as they are more important and site related, not spam or unmoderated, they wll be deleted and you may be suspended for the day. Thank you...
And yes, thanks for the new nominations. I am of course still considering new nominees, not all of them make it but some do. And hopefully they will be one of the lucky ones that are randomly drawn |
