Apparently he passed away lately...
Some people like Maddox thought he was an asshole, others thought otherwise.

If you have an opinion, I would like to hear it.

Being the dude playing Superman, he hasn't half put up a fight against his problem... Such a shame he died, though, after so long.
Why is Reeve an asshole?

Simple: because he's selfish. Reeve didn't give a s**t about paralysis before his accident, but now that he's paralyzed, suddenly he opens up a paralysis foundation and cares about the plight of cripples? Where was his foundation in '95 when he played the role of a man with spinal cord injury? Sure, some of you might argue that he's doing a good thing by bringing attention to paralysis, but the underlying message being sent here is that nobody gives a s**t about cripples until a celebrity becomes one.
I'm not sure if I like Maddox' opinion here or not, entertaining though it is, I'm not sure.

Part of me says he's right, another says he's wrong..

Anyone got any thoughts on this subject?

I just read about this in USA Today this morning. I think it's a tradgedy, death of any kind is.

I don't really know if I agree with Maddox's opinion. Sure he might not have cared about paralysis before his accident.. but really... the sad truth there aren't a whole lot of people who do think about it until it happens to them. And the fact also remains that whether or not Reeves was a jackass he did do a lot for the field in helping to find a way to reverse paralysis.

no he just pretends he is paralysed, so nobody suspects him of being superman. You see, the old disguise (only glasses) wasn't working anymore, people started to notice. I mean, it is the lamest disguise ever.

"Yeah I put on glasses. Now my nemesis will not know who I am hehehe..."

i have to agree with dg-sama. people don't care about something until it happens to him or her. and apperently, not many people do care a whole a lot about paralyzed people.

i was watching this farewell documentary on him yesterday and it said that he tried very hard to regain his nerves in his body and he really did improve. He was able to his finger and legs just a little and he was also able to sense touch which he couldn't when he got the injury.

yeah...very tragic death Sad

His name was Christopher Reeve and he was a great person *sniff* Here's an article:

New York, October 11 - Christopher Reeve, the star of the "Superman"
movies whose near-fatal riding accident nine years ago turned him
into a worldwide advocate for spinal cord research, died Sunday, his
publicist said. He was 52.

Reeve fell into a coma Saturday after going into cardiac arrest
while at his New York home, said his publicist, Wesley Combs told
The Associated Press by phone from Washington, D.C., on Sunday night.

He presence will be missed by fans and fandom worldwide.

It's so sad!

And yet no one said anything about Rodney Dangerfield. He still can't get any respect. Sad

Dunno who Christopher Reeve is (not a superman person myself), but I guess it's sad.

...Not the fact that he was Superman, but even if you maybe knew him due to the fundage he paid into the research of possible cures to his disease?

..the things he did for disability and such?

Still no?

Oh well... Yeah.. Who's the dude you speak of?
Is he maggot food now?
Was he important and will you miss him?

Please tell me you're joking about Rodney... WTF? Back to School? Never seen it? None of his movies or comedy? Noooo....

I've heard the name Christopher Reeve a couple times but have no idea what he looks like or anything he's been in (apart from the mention of Superman). I'm tempted to agree with Maddox, from the sound of it.

You had to have seen him somewhere. He played Lucifer in Little Nicky. Satan's father. He comes out complaining and takes the guy with tits on his head back to his room. Razz He was in Casper. Caddyshack. Looked like this. Still can't believe you don't know who he is. Anyway, he died on the 6th.

He played the mayor in the second Casper movie, but he played an image in the mirror in the first. Right after the Crypt Keeper, I believe.
I only remember that because all I watched my first night in Charleston in 97 was Casper and Casper: A Spirited Beginning.
