We all know that yet another FF game is going to be released in the near future. What do you have to say about it? Are you exited, or bummed out? Do you think that it's a good thing, or a bad thing? Do you enjoy FF, or do you abhore it? What can they possible do to make this FF different from the rest? Will there still be turn based fighting? Party members? Moogles? What exactly do you think? Being a huge fan of the FF series, it can't be all that bad. I mean, they've continued to empress us so far, right?

Well, let's see . . . I expect that FF12 will cost about $50 when it hits store shelves.
More seriously, FF12 is bucking the tradition of random encounters (finally!). Monsters will roam about on the field map just like you do, and combat takes place on it.
I've seen screenshots and read mag articles. FF12 will utilize a more tactical, almost real-time ATB system kind alike FFX-2. It doesn't take long for their turns to come around, and they (generally) won't have to wait for somebody else to finish before they execute their turn's attack/whatever.
I'm not so sure about the team management htough. They say that when you issue an "Attack" command, for example, the character will continue to attack each time their turn comes up until you tell them otherwise. I fear that basic combat might end up little more than sitting back laissez-faire and monitoring HP -- in other words, using heal items when needed but otherwise letting the battle system proceed automatically. Like how in FFX-2 if you have a team of two attackers+one white mage you can win battles simply by holding down X button (automatically choosing the "Attack" and "Pray" options as each turn comes up).
On a few occasions my sister took the PS2 controller and strapped a small bungee tie cable around the controller forcing the X button down and the left stick up; that, a Lure Bracer, and an area full of low-level monsters, and she literally let the game "play itself" while she went and did something else for hours. She even left it on overnight a few times as her team went mindlessly killing random monster after random monster, levelling up all the way to Lv.99.
Short and blunt, that's the bitch about a turn-based combat system: sometimes you can simply hold the button down and let your characters win battles for you. No tactics, no grey matter involved.
PS: the word's impress, not empress. Try and avoid having loose vowels. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Thank you Strata for your concern, you always seem to have great ideas and opinions! ^_^ As for me, I have never had the chance to play FFX-2, so I don't really know what to expect from FFXII on the battle. But from what you have told, I can't wait to see the results. And thanks for your comment, I hope others will give thiers aswell. _________________ "You can quote me on that." - Gray |
