Lately I've started to rework older pictures, changing the contrast, stuff like that, and I came across this picture:

So I had an idea to make one part pf the picture blurry, to get a funny focus effect. So the question is, which one looks better?
(This is just a real quick sketch, things like contrast and working around the rough edges will be done later) |

the top one. B)
ok, it doesn't really matter to be honest. they both work the same, neither is more realistic or correct than the other. if i had to choose, i'd say the right looks best because the one on the left makes the man (holding the gun) look a bit too blurry. if you fix the blurriness on that one it wouldn't really make a difference. they're both good. :D
geeze, i sound like such a suck ass. kiss up. ... you know what i mean.
edit:
i forgot to mention, you can't really see the signature on the right one anyway. so that could be fixed. :D
your name is fraz? omg lol... |

It's called a depth-of-field effect ;)
The purpose of this is to draw the viewer's attention to the focused part of the picture. If it's important to recognize the guy getting shot, I'd go with the left one. If it's important to recognize the shooter, I'd go with the right. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

yeah, i think the general rule is: whoever is more improtant, they are focused on more. if the shooter is your main character, than focus on him, if the vampire is the important character, focus on him. i prefer the right because it shows more detail (background, etc.). but really it depends on who is who. |

Lexar, you know how when you apply a blur effect to lineart, it tends to look darker? You should add in some exposure/brightness adjustment to help it look consistent with the regular lineart.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

yes, I found that out too, but as I said, it's more to give a general idea than it is a final product. It can be easily fixed though.
And I'm probably not going to color it, because I think it's relatively too time consuming if you look at what it adds to the picture. Not worth it to me. I'd rather do 3 detailed linearts in the time it takes me to color one. |
