Patience, little dude. Almost nobody gets comments in their first week or two.

You either have to (1) draw something that attracts fangirls like flies upon manure, or (2) draw whatever YOU like to draw and WAIT for honest and constructive users to notice them. Which can take MONTHS, but it's a lot more wholesome than option #1.

In the meantime, are you looking around and commenting on other people's stuff? If you do that, the chances that they'll notice you are a bit higher than if you just simply wait around and hope that somebody notices your gallery and says to themself "hey, I should check that out..." .
you know what? i never get any comments on my pictures!!!! and i try my hardest!!! well.... know one is gonna comment on a picture thats not from no anime..............
To true my friend. I see that a LOT happen at deviantart.com. I see a bunch of anime (even if it's crappy) get like 50 comments. Turn in something like "American-art" and it gets stuck with about 3. It's even worse if you try to draw a character like, say, Sephiroth, in a style other than the girly. Razz Just how the world spins I guess.

Well, I tried to get my work "noticed" again at another thread with someone offering to comment. Sure enough, I saw the page view double the amount than when I saw it an hour ago. But STILL no one bothered to say something. However...

Stratadrake (Strata), what you say is VERY true. The comments I recieve come months and even YEARS later. They're only about ten, compared to the 50 or so comments others get. But you know what? The ppl that comment on my work really aren't like "oh, he is such a hot guy!" They really are great with their comments, pointing out specific things about the pic. These ppl really are honest and constructive and I really feel blessed that I was allowed to have reviews of this caliber on the work i left while I was gone from this.

The new work will probably take years to get some comments. But as the old saying goes: quality of quantity, right? Very Happy

I guess I'm like that with a lot of people, even in real life -- slightly uneasy around new faces.

I know, it's a bummer. It's not that I don't like anime. In fact, I appreciate it as much as appreciate any other style and have done a bit on it. But I find myself mainly a graphic artist. I'm more old school, taking inspiration from greats like Andy Kubert and Jim Lee.

Anyway, I don't like how ppl ignore everything else BUT anime. Another thing I find annoying is that these days, when you say you draw, automatically ppl think you draw anime. I get this assumption a LOT. Mainly because I want to be a computer animator, doing stuff for movies like Titanic. However, the moment they hear I want to be an animator already they assume I want to do anime, nothing like Pixar or Luca Inc stuff. Several times I had to explain it straight. In which case, they go "Huh?" It's like everyone expects you to draw anime. If you aren't drawing it then there's something wrong with you.

I know in some of the comments on my work I recieved wasn't based on the quality of the image. Just its style preference. Some ppl complained it was too "American" style. Whatever. -_-

ANYWHO... I checked out some of your work IzumeSuenix. DIdn't have time to post comments but I will soon. I did, however, post one on my favorite one. All I have to say about your work is that it's really awesome! Very hip and stylish. Very Happy

Nimra doesn't draw anime. Anton doesn't draw anime. bullsik doesn't draw anime. Kique-ass doesn't draw anime. Taiia doesn't draw anime. Ursula Vernon doesn't draw anime. (and I don't draw anime, but they're all far more popular than I am *weep*)

It's really a matter of skill, interaction, and luck. There are people just as good as any of those that for whatever reason don't get nearly the amount of response. Luck of being seen. Your pictures can be the best in the world, but if no one sees you it doesn't matter. For all the anime artists that get tons of attention (only one I can think of off the top of my head is Pu-sama, but that's just 'cause she's the only anime artist on my watch list), I can think of just as many non anime-artists that do. The point of comments and favorites are what people like, not always what's most skilled. So...like Strata said, you can either change what you draw to be what people like, or go looking for people who like what you draw. Unless you're nimra, talent won't get you comments. Sad

Ah, so there's hope after all! Very Happy I guess I just live in the bad side of town, lol.

I do have a question though... I've been wanting to get my work noticed and so I post my stuff at several threads. But I don't know if that's a good idea since it seems like I'm *hogging* the forums.

IzumeSuenix (), no problem! Your work is terrific. Can't wait to comment on it. :D

(LOL- yeah I edited that huge paragraph out. No need to have it since I do feel a lot better that other types of styles are still co-existing. Very Happy Thanks for setting me straight Fallen angel.)

Post your art on as many threads as it applies to. Mostly only the huge "celebrities" don't promote their work, and that's when they aren't selling anything. You should see how much people like Kay Allen post their gallery link. Of course, popularity generally means 50 "cool!" comments and still only a few in depth ones.

I've got my little group of DA people who comment on most of what I post. A lot just leave a comment or two, maybe a watch, and never comment again (which is fine, 'cause I do that too). Usually whenever I post a piece, I'll get more comments on old stuff from people clicking the new one and commenting on old ones instead. I dunno, I think I'm the only person doing decent realism fanart on DA that doesn't have at least 9 or 10 thousand pageviews. Partly because I'm too lazy to promote for "cool!" comments, and partly because Taime Downe doesn't have near the fanbase Johnny Depp has (but he should! I'm starting the Taime revolution).

When the whole "omg Orlando Bloom! *orgasm*" thing was going on, I pondered doing a picture of him just as an experiment. But then I got distracted. By Axl, I think... Uneasy The world may never know the answer to that experiment.

You're not alone, there are so many really awesome artists that don't get the credit they deserve. Which is exactly why topics like this one pop up

When in Rome, do as the Romans do! I guess I'll plug my gallery too. the link is in my signature, it's the one that says My Art.

I only do realism fan art. Some of my favorite celebrites, some of book characters, some of imaginary people, et cetera. I think one reason pictures like these don't get comments, is because they're from different celebrities (i.e. Twiggy) and not from a "popular" celebrity (i.e. Justin Timberlake.)
That's just my observation. . . . .
