Four out of five, although the solid gradient fill for the wings just . . . doesn't do it for me.

Next up, do this one:

lucifer:

hey, i commented on this picture before. :P

8/10

it's nice and all, the color is done pretty well and looks professional. the thing it's lacking is line definition, it really doesn't have that eye-catching look of feel to it other than his wings are rainbow colored. i'd of given you a 7/10, but you get bonus points for the cool signature. :D

sex Razz

edit:

damn you strata, posting before me. Grr!

7/10

the coloring and blending is pretty nice, but it just lacks that "pizazz" and "kick" to make it excelent. the picture is very soft, which sort of disrupts the liveliness of the concept. great effort, and great dragon-designing though, you're like the best fantasy artist on fac that i've seen. ^_^

If I hadn't had to reboot my browser, I'd have posted a few minutes earlier ;)
the picture is very soft, which sort of disrupts the liveliness of the concept.
Try doing a full-view on it. Auto-resize only makes it appear even softer....

((you're right, it does look a bit darken on resize. but just slightly. my monitor is at full brightness, so naturally it will look soft and very light. Very Happy))

'Fraid I have to give that one a 2 out of 5, because I am especially picky about dragons, and can prove it too:

7/10 A little choppy, but over all very well drawn.

Cosmo Horizon (As much as I love sci-fi, I'm terrible at it.)
The only reason I didn't give you a 10/10 is b/c no piece of art is ever perfect.
I like that reasoning ^_^ That's why with me and my 1-to-5 scale, a 5/5 is so hard to come by. Not because it means "perfect", since no picture ever truly is, but because it means "exceptional" ;)

Anyway, yours... let's see... tough call, either a 3 or 4 out of 5, but I'll call it a 4 and be done with it.

So allow me to throw a stone in the waters of discussion with a WIP. Obviously not yet finished, and evolving even as we speak, choose your number accordingly.

2/5 at best. I've never been very fond of MS Paint drawings. Also, if you could provide a link instead of an attachment, it would help. ^_^

Here is my most recent. Click.

I give Jay an 8/10 Coloring is good and I like the pose. It's very natural looking, meaning it doesn't look stiff like she's posing for a camera. My only problem is that her boobs look just a bit loppsided, but that could just be the angle.

Hmm.. I feel like putting up one of my wierder character designs (or redesign in this case Razz )

Birdman

Ack, you snuck in a post ahead of me! Surprised My rating was for rikuschick's, not yours.

Jhonen, I give your planet a 4 out of 5.
Why do my drawings always suck????? Grr!
The nice, polite answer, is because you have very much learning to do.

Or, to be frank, they just don't have a high level of quality to begin with. MS Paint can't really create anything on par with PS or oekaki but it can still do better than this -- you just have to push it to its limits. The thick linework is a demerit, you don't seem to use any custom colors or gradations (yes, you can create gradations in Paint, you just have to do it by hand) in your work beyond the (rather putrid) tones in MS Paint's default palette, and because -- actually, I'll spare you the rest. If I can give two tips about MSP, one is double-click on a color and select "Define Custom Colors" to get access to the full RGB spectrum, two is to use thinner lines and smaller brushes.

Aaaannnnyyyyway Rolling eyes Don't forget about DG-Sama, somebody's got to rate that pic of hers!

About Photoshop: Ever hear of the GIMP? It's a bit like Photoshop, nearly as powerful (supports gradients, layers, and a lot more), free to download, but like any complex program, takes a bit of work to learn.

About oekaki: Check out the What is Okekai thread, we've got links.

And about being 11: Practice, practice, practice. You'll get better with time ;)

Oh, now to get this back on topic. DG-Sama's Birdman? I was half expecting something with feathers, but the quality earns if a 4 of 5.

In the meantime, I have completed my next dragon, this is him:

7/10

the coloring is quality stuff, and the texturing of the scales and the crystals too, and that certainly deserves better, but I think you need to start working on more dynamic poses, and foreshortening, that kind of stuff. I always get the distinct feeling everything is a little static in these dragon pictures so 7/10 seems fair.

Ooo...nice picture. The level of detail is just great--my eye has lots of little things to look at all over the picture, not just in the foreground.

One drawback to that is the picture is a bit busy--I had trouble making parts of it out, the guy's hands especially. Some line weight variation could solve that problem (thicker/stronger outlines on the larger, basic shapes like body outlines and also on things that overlap).

Anatomy-wise, it's pretty strong. The lower half of his legs might be a bit short (it's hard to tell with the costume), and I think the wide-spread eyes is a stylistic thing, but I'm not really digging it. He looks a bit walleyed (like both eyes aren't looking in the same direction).

nice job overall, could use some minor tweaking/10
(I hate trying to make a subjective "rating" fit into some abstract numerical category)

Unfortunately I haven't done much serious work recently and my most recent doodles aren't on fanart-central, so I'll just ask for a rating on this one:
http://www.fanart-central.net/pictures.php?pid=103363
Some VHD fanart...I'm aware of most of the anatomy problems (the curse of not sketching beforehand), but it's about the most recent picture I've done that's worth looking at. Uneasy

I have a preference for pure lineart, because it's easier for me to see the skill behind the artist, so that's a plus for you already. This picture is proof you don't need a lot of background or coloring to set a mood. The hair, the eyes, and the whole pose really fit well together, and seriously the only thing I have to say about this, is the shoes, because I don't like them and don't fit a traveller.

8,5/10

There's not really anything wrong with it, but I don't think it took you a lot of time so this seems about right.

Oops.. I clicked it again

yeah okay maybe a little dumb, but I couldn't think of anything else
