Does anyone else here like Van Helsing? I love the way the vampires and werewolves were animated. It was a good movie, I think! |

I liked it too, don't understand why so many people didn't. Have you seen the animated prequel? It's made by the same people and has all the voices of the original actors from the movie. It's really good. Remember when van Helsing says to Hyde, "I missed you in London?" This is that. The effects were really good too, I love the way Dracula moves in the beginning, you know, when Frankenstien turns around and Drac's suddenly behind him? That was really cool.
I <3 Carl. He made the movie imho. Hugh Jackman in leather will only take a movie so far. |

Dracula was not an aristocratic and arrogant overlord, but more some kinda freak, van Helsing was not a 60 year old dutch professor quoting the bible, but some dude with a ripped off hat (hellsing, vampire hunter D) and ripped off gadgets (JB 007), and extremely lame lines. What can possibly be good about that???!!
And werewolves, frankenstein, hyde, anything else I missed, shouldn't have been in the movie. They are not connected at all, and an insult to my knowledge. And the whole vampirebaby thing... please, do not insult my good taste, that was just too lame an excuse to give the hero a reason to fight dracula.
I didn't like anything in the movie actually. Even the animations were too weird. The actual rendered models were okay, but they moved unnaturally making them obviously pretty sad. Having lots of CG stuff in your movie doesn't make it good.
And what was the whole thing with the werewolf and dracula fighting before a certain time anyway? That's just lame and seems completely made up to me, but not as lame as the 'ice castle behind the mirror' thing. I just don't like it when people present me with totally random elements in a story and not even care to explain them. They don't even have to explain how it works, but at least give me a satisfactory explanation about WHY it works like this or that. Just like those 'visions' the main protagonist has, about being in ancient roman battles. that's just not adding ANYTHING to the story at all. Maybe only so they get to say intelligent sounding stuff in the movie, or a desperate attempt to give some depth to the main character, but really, when you think about it, it's all too farfetched, and the sidekick had more personality than the main character (which isn't much, believe me).
Eastern european countries were stereotyped, and the girl wasn't believable in such a setting, without even mentioning her acting skills.
"But it was a fun movie"
Okay, it was a fun movie, but a really, really BAD, fun movie, that could have been way better.
I suggest everyone watches der untergang and learn something. |
