Well, I had an idea to make a system in which people have to give a number of comments in order to submit some of their work, so that everyone's art gets some comments, but I understand that there'll be some complications, like there are some people who can't comment, for some reason, or maybe people will just put a blank comment on a pic or something, just so it counts.

Well, I'd just like to see what you people think.

It's possable.

Animemusicvideos.org makes you rate your previous downloads before it lets you download more than 10.

Rather complex tho and I dont think very practical.

Note that you can see the number of pics a user has commented on in their profile. People who give comments, get them.

I think that is a bad idea. If people want to comment then they will comment. I don't want insincere comments just because they have to. I get enough of those.

They'll just write "good" or "cool" on a bunch of pictures. People who like to give comments and give good ones will, and forcing people to do it won't really help.

It's a creative idea, but I think it only works for rating systems. With comments, receaving them is suposed to be an honor. It's a reward for good work and for being active on the forums. If people had to meet a quota, they'd just give incincere comments to the first pics they see instead of giving them to people whom they actualy feal compelled to comment on.

I was thinking though that maybe a rating system like theotaku.com would be good. I know it can be a little upsetting sometimes to see your rating go down.. but i also think it encourages people to put up only their best works.. i think it might help with quality.

There's a discussion about that somewhere down the list. Wink

I believe it was decided that that system is too easy to abuse, as is done on a lot of sites that have it.

nah, I don't think that's a good idea for one big reason:

CTRL + C = copy
CTRL + V = paste

I would rather get one sincere review rather than a factory duplicate o.< there are some people who already do that for shameless advertisement.
But I can see where you're trying to bring out the good in people n.n;; nice idea, but not very good subjects to apply it to.

I think the whole comment and review is just fine as it is. And i like it how it is right now. There are other things i'd be more happy about debating on whether it should change really. So yeah, this isn't one on my list for now.

When ever I get a long nice comment I like to check to see if the user found my pic good enough to put under his or her favorite pics. This usually leads me to checking out their own pictures and commenting right back.

Like most of you said I don't want one-word comments that mean nothing.
Plus I'm not really good with words. It's kinda hard for me to finds the words to say. I know I'm not the only one whose like this.

Same here. Even if it's constuctive criticizm it means more than just "lol". It shows that the viewer respects your art enough to spend some time mentioning it.

Problem with a rating system on a fanart site: "OMG! I h8 that character! *gives it a 1 out of 10*"

Any art done by each individual is art regardless of what anyone may think. Any comments made by others, good or bad, only reflect the thoughts of the commenter according to his/her own definition of art.

Comments could serve the purpose of acknowledging one's weaknesses and strengths.

Do not feel bad about anyone not commenting, sometimes it's better that way. There is always the chance of getting a nasty comment.
