Ok, I know this is probably stupid to everyone else, but I have to say this everywhere I can. Do not buy this album. It's not endorsed by the band, nor the fans, and is only put together by the label. The song selection is poor, and the track order is even worse. Axl was in the process of suing them (and the rest of the band joined in), but as obvious by the commercials, it was no use. The record isn't their "greatest hits". They only have three technically great albums, though you could count Lies, so it's not like it's the KISS collection to pull from. Appetite For Destruction is their greatest hits, and if you care enough to even buy the new record, do yourself a favor and pick up AFD and the two Illusion albums off ebay for less money.
Just really pisses me off to see something like that put out with the Gn'R name attached to it. So if you were thinking about it, don't, and if you know someone else who's going to get it, stop them. The only reason anyone could possibly need this is Sympathy For the Devil on cd, and that's a pretty piss poor reason (download it, come on).
For curiosity's sake, here's the track listing:
1. Welcome To The Jungle
2. Sweet Child O' Mine
3. Patience
4. Paradise City
5. Knockin' On Heaven's Door
6. Civil War
7. You Could Be Mine
8. Don't Cry - (original version)
9. November Rain
10. Live And Let Die
11. Yesterdays
12. Ain't It Fun
13. Since I Don't Have You
14. Sympathy For The Devil
One of the funniest things is there's TWO Spaghetti Incident covers (in a row <_<).
Alright, I'm done. I'll go rant and rave somewhere else... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Ehhh. Those songs aren't the worst. I really like Live and Let Die. However, if the band is planing to sue then I won't buy it. _________________ |

i'll make a note to never buy it, fallen. and i'll discourage anyone else thinking about it. is the band going to continue with the lawsuit? or no since it's already released?
wait... isn't "live and let die" by paul mcartney or someone? it was the opening to my dance recital last year. or did gn'r cover it? _________________ i fought the war, but the war won |

It's a cover on "Use Your Illusion I". There's a video for it. And I'm not saying they're not great songs, they really are. I love those songs. There's really only a couple Gn'R songs I can't stand (one being "My World", which isn't even a song), but two Spaghetti Incident covers (the whole album was covers) instead of something like Coma? Or another track off Appetite? There's five friggin' covers on that "greatest hits".
Axl tried to sue them, and I believe it was Slash and Duff who joined him, but it's released and out there. A Greatest Hits record would be cool for someone just getting into them, but there are only three albums...why the hell is there five covers? Live and Let Die and Knockin' on Heavens Door are must-includes, but the others are really worthless (except people who want Sympathy on cd).
And the order is just odd. All the other albums move really nicely from one song to the other, but whoever decided the track listing on this one...they have odd taste. It sounds very awkward (I put all the songs in a playlist and checked it out...yeah, it sucks).
They are great songs, but whoever picked them tried too hard to include something from every record and left out songs that are a lot stronger. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I thought Paul Mcartney wrote it too. I remember this one program where they were counting down the 10 best James Bond theme songs and #1 was Live and Let Die by Paul Mcartney. _________________ |

So the one on the album is the same, but sung by Axl, right? Just wondering. _________________ |

I don't know how the one by Paul sounds. I assume Guns gave it some balls. I'll go try to download the original and compare.... But yeah, the one on Use Your Illusion I is sung by Axl. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

The original isn't so... noisy... Sorry that is the best way I can describe it. It isn't like extremely mellow either...... just slightly Both versions are pretty good. _________________ |

Couldn't find a version that worked all the way through, but yeah, Guns gave it balls. The intro is pretty much the same, Axl changed the tune slightly, but just think of the difference between Appetite and any Beatles album and you'll understand the difference. It's less...British. I much prefer Axl on it, but that's just because I've never been big on McCartney tunes.
And Guns isn't noisy. I resent that. They simply have more going on at once. More rhythm guitar parts and such. It's not noise. *sulks* _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I say noisy.. as that is how i describe anything that isn't totally pop, country or rap.. Whenever I think of 80's/early 90's bands I think big hair and big noise. It all just sounds so messy to me. Some of guns and roses stuff are fine for me though.. like that one song......ummm... since i don't have you... their cover stuff Don't hate me because I don't like poison... don't hate me cuz i probably spelt it wrong _________________ |

Hahaha, oddly enough Poison are the "glam slam kings of noise". However, they're probably one of the most melodic, un-messy bands around back then. Sure, C.C.'s a little sloppy, but I guess it all depends on what you consider "noise". Gn'R and the other "harder" groups could be considered noisy, I suppose. But Poison is such party rock I've never seen anyone say they were. Huh. Ya hear somethin' new every day.
Since I Don't Have You...weirdest song ever, considering who covered it. Not that I don't dig it, it's just very very weird (video's weirder). _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

G'nRs wasnt noisy it was just hard as hell rock. but now you can slam me because I only liked thier first album. they were told to calm down thier language and they stated "NO" and never would conform. them comes thier second album and they do. wusses. (go ahead slam me)! I was totallt into the idea that every radio station had to bleep thier music back then, well untill they conformed.
just an opinion...the first album still rocks though

Heh, not entirely true. The writing change is because of Axl. I believe it was Stephanie Seymour (eh, one of those model girlfriends) who asked him if he could ever write another album as hard and ballsy as Appetite, and he answered that he probably couldn't because he didn't live like that anymore and didn't have the experiences as a basis. The line "know where you are? You're in the jungle, baby. You're gonna diiiiiie..." is from a night he was homeless in hollywood, sleeping on a playground and some big black dude came up and shook him awake sayin' about that.
And I don't know what you're talking about with the language change.
WARNING: MATURE LANGUAGE
"What, you pissed off that your dad gets more pussy than you? Fuck you! Suck my fuckin' dick. You be rippin' off the fuckin' kids who wanna read about the bands they wanna know about, printin' lies, startin' controversy, you wanna antagonize me? Antagonize me, motherfucker! Get in the ring, motherfucker! And I'll kick your bitchy little ass! Punk." - "Get In the Ring", IYU II
"You want a confrontation? I'll give you every fuckin' chance! With your verbal masturbation, and me I just like to dance!" - Shotgun Blues, UYI II
"You wanna talk to me? You can't talk to me. You don't understand your sex. You ain't been mindfucked yet." - My World, UYI II.
"Fuck you. Bitch. Not bad kids, just stupid ones. Yeah, thought we'd own the world, and gettin' used was havin' fun" - Right Next Door To Hell, UYI I
"Keep the demons down and drag the skeletons out, I've got a blind man followin' me in chains. I said he's fun to watch when the world has stopped, and I think he's got somethin' to say. You wanna fuck with me? Don't fuck with me. 'Cause I'm what you'll be, so don't fuck with me. If you had better sense you'd just step aside from the bad side of me, don't fuck with the bad side of me, stay away from the bad side of me, don't fuck with the bad side..." - Perfect Crime, UYI
"I can't stop thinkin', thinkin' 'bout sinkin', sinkin' down into my bed. I called my mother; she's just a cunt now. She said I'm sick in the head. She said, 'you ain't special, so who ya foolin'"..." - Bad Obsession, IYU I
"Back off, back off bitch, bitch bitch bitch bitch ...hey whaddaya think he's tryin' to say there anyway? I think it's somethin' everyone's supposed to take in their own special way. Fucking bitch." - Back Off Bitch, UYI I
"Double talkin' jive, get the money motherfucker, 'cause I got no more patience. Double talkin' lies. No more patience, man." - Double Talkin' Jive, UYI I
"Somtimes I could get even, sometimes I could give up, sometimes I could give, sometimes I never give a fuck..." - Don't Damn Me, UYI I
"I got my camera back from customs, got my law fees up to date, yeah they must'a seen me comin', ain't this life so fuckin' great?" - Bad Apples, UYI I
"They're leavin' it all up to me when, all I needed was clarity and, someone to tell me what the fuck is goin' on! God damn it....Zap him again, zap the son of a bitch again..." - Coma, UYI I
"One in a Million" from Lies offends just about everyone.
There's a lot more, but those are all I can think of without going through all the lyrics in my head.
Same amount of language, just spread out over two albums released at the same time. Not arguing that Appetite was their best. The Illusion albums are just different. Unless you meant Lies, but I never count Lies for anything, except "One in a Million" and "Patience".
And if you wanna be really picky, Appetite was their second album. I'd join you in insulting "The Spaghetti Incident?", though. Like a lot of the songs, but it is pathetically bad.
EDIT: Forgot to point out, Don't Cry, November Rain, and some others were written before Appetite even was. Don't Cry was their first song written as Guns. They just ended up on Illusion instead. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

UYI II is a lot...lighter than Appetite. UYI I is closer. I actually just got someone on another forum into Guns by having her listen to UYI II first. Took her a few listens to warm up to UYI I, but now she loves it. Dunno if she'd go for Appetite, but we'll see.
However, the singles from the Illusion albums (and "Patience" from Lies) are a lot different than the singles from Appetite. Mostly because they're the only clean songs on the records. All the Illusion material could've been made into one album nearly as good as Appetite, had they only picked the best of the best, but it'd leave out a lot of still good songs. And as they say on the "Sex n' Drugs n' Rock n' Roll" biography, how do you top the best selling debut of all time? Release two albums at once.

all right you can pull out your bat again on me (I dont mind). you put up that "lousy CC Deville station" on the other forum...wheres one for GnRs. tou should know!
and Ill give it a listen again. but like I said somebands I fall for on one album and for some reason or another turn me off on the second and thats it for me.
Kiss
Boston
Lynard Skynard (I dont even think I spelled that right)
to name a few!
and I hate poser bands, you know that got a few hard jams and all have to pose for each song....Kiss was the ultimate, well untill the '80s _________________ 'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. The Yahoo station I made? CC_DeVille_Chick's my screen name. There's no Gn'R on there because Launch hasn't purchased the rights to any of their CDs. All their songs are rated 100% by me, though, should they ever add them to the options.
And you can dislike the Illusion albums, Lies, The Spaghetti Incident?, Live Era '87-'93, and Live Like a Suicide all you want. A lot of people do.
What, you didn't like Warrant's fancy white suits and coordinated moves in the Heaven video?

man I thought it was a station devoted to one artist...you know sometimes it does take a little to have the brain cells collide here!
no I dont like posers...even if I liked ZZ tops fuzzy guitars! that was just funny. I cant even remember the names of the bands Im talking about.. but they were from the '80s basically and now even have a "heavy rock of the '80s" ktell type album advertised on the tube late night with all the bands that I loved to hate on it.
I think one was Scorpion! it looks like my four brothers (bunch of pretty boys) how did I get mixed with that DNA!
