Are all the songs about sex, drugs, parties, or some kind of dramatic issue (absent father, suicide, divorce, etc?) every now and then? It's in Japanese, so I wouldn't know.

A lot of American culture from years past ends up over there. Hell, Faster Pussycat was still popular over there up until a few years ago. Surprised And they were never overly huge over here, and haven't been remotely popular for over ten years. It's like over the top glam metal in image. I mean, they took the men in makeup ball and ran with it. WTF? People criticized Stevie Rachelle for being too pretty, what the hell is going on in Japan? Craaaaaazy.

I'm not big on music where I have no idea what they're saying, so I don't personally like it, but whatever floats your boat. At least they're keeping the bigger than life rock star image alive, although in a horribly weird manner.

Some of the dudes try too hard. You can't tell if they're male or female. I could tell Bret Michaels was male, but some of them dudes from way o'er there?

Mm, yes, Bret was and is obviously all male. But of course, leopard print spandex always makes it all the more obvious. Cool Seriously, though, American hair metal with a few exceptions was just dudes in glamorous makeup. Where the New York Dolls and Twisted Sister were hideously garish, the LA scene went the "pretty" route. But then there was LA Guns and the leather type. Anyway, point being, they never truly looked like women.

But that J-rock... Uneasy WTF? If they want to look like women, all the power to 'em, it's the tunes that count. It's just odd.

:/ Although I like Jrock, I'll be the first to admit that it's pretty screwed up. I was listening to a song the other day, which I could have sworn was rock (some people call this song of the 'goth' sub-genre), and when I bothered looking at the lyrics, I found out it was a love song. o_o; It sounds like he wants to rape someone, though, if we're talking about the tone. oO

mmkay so i have been digging:

indie, like the shins, metric, new pornographers, the reunion show, mates of state
punk, like the clash, sex pistols, dead kennedys, the partisans, circle jerks
chick rock, like bikini kill, the raincoats, sleater-kinney, pretty girls make graves
grunge, like nirvana, veruca salt, the pixies
rock!, like foo fighters, probot, the kinks, mclusky, violent femmes, harvey danger, the agenda
and of course, ska, with wonderful bands like reel big fish, less than jake, catch 22, the hippos, and save ferris

and occasionally i show my emo leanings by admitting my get up kids, saves the day, and bright eyes fetish...

on the flip side, i am an avid fan of musicals. little shop of horrors, rocky horror, cats, singin' in the rain, hair, and chicago have some of my favourite music.
