So. Are there any comedy shows and/or movies that you think actually are funny? Are there any that actually make you laugh your ass off, or laugh so hard that tears come to your eyes? Or, are there any shows just make you giggle? If so, which show(s)/movie(s)?

I generally have a decent sense of humour, but when I sat down to watch some tv (first time in a loooooooong time.. o.0), and I flipped through a few comedy shows, nothing even amused me. I never cracked a smile once. Nothing seemed too funny (that's only my opinion, though)

So I was wondering what shows make you laugh? Old shows? Newer ones?

Old Drew Carey Show (last season or two where they changed the concept sucks)

Old Will and Grace (once she got married...blech)

Just Shoot Me

Comedy Central Presents is hit or miss, but there's some really good ones (Adam Ferrara, Ted Alexandro, Ardal O'Hanlon, Greg Proops, Wanda Sykes, Pablo Francisco, Greg Fitzimmons, Greg Behrendt, Greg Giraldo, Gary Valentine, Lewis Black, Louis C.K., Jim David, Jim Gaffigan, Richard Jeni, Stephen Lynch, Tom Papa, Johnny Sanchez, Nick Swardson...you get the idea)

Yes, Dear is good sometimes.

Family Guy

Futurama

Reno 911!

South Park

Dilbert

The Graham Norton Effect

Jim Breuer: Hardcore

Kids In The Hall

That's My Bush!

World Comedy Tour

Travel Sick is oddly amusing, but I think it's just 'cause I watch it late at night and laugh at Grub.

Let's not even start on funny movies... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I'll tell you right off the bat that I love English wit the best. So, you get Monty Python and Black Adder from me. I can't supply much more, because I don't watch TV that often. =P _________________

				 Ooh...

I have to say, most of my favourites have finished now.

- Monty Python will always rule supreme, of course

- I loved the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

- All the Blackadders are brilliant, the first isn't as good as the others but still provides a decent night in.

- Red Dwarf. Maybe there are more to come, maybe not.

- One that won't have reached America is Have I Got News for You, possibly the second funniest and most intelligent quiz around. Sharp, satirical and very funny, even after the departure of Angus Deaton. Always a good friday night's viewing.

- The first funniest would be QI. Pray that reaches you guys, it's the best telly on at the moment. With Steven Fry hosting it, you know is has to be good. It can make half an hour pass in a flash.

As for American stuff... I really enjoy Futurama. A shame it's such a short programme though - half of its slot in the schedules seems to be the ad break. |

Peter's Friends...good movie. Actually bought it for Tony Slattery, but he was good too. Not a strict comedy, but still rather funny. Comical drama. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I find humour in the strangest places, and it's usually not where people expect it to be.

Take PBS' "Between the Lions" -- it looks like your average made-for-children TV show, but really it's full of some great jokes. The title itself can be taken two ways; either as a library reference or as "between the lines". One recent episode featured the A.I. mouse, Click, getting her memory systems fried as she read Through the Looking Glass, because none of it made any sense!

Simple humour, I know, but eh, when you lack cable TV, you gotta find it in any way possible.

As far as movies... "A Man Named Sarge" was an exceptionally funny one, almost on par with a Leslie Neilsen movie in its' innate stupidity. A bunch of Foreign Legionaires 'escape' into the North African desert, only to come across Rommel and his Panzer Division making their way into British holdings. They decide to fight off Rommel, avoid being captured by the Legion, and hopefully make their way home, all without dieing. Which, after about ten minutes of the movie, makes you want to fall over laughing at the prospect of...

Ah! I don't think anyone's mentioned the "Ernest" movies yet! "Ernest Scared Stupid", "Ernest Saves Christmas", and a good truckload of others that were made. Sure, they were low-budget when low-budget meant guys in suits, but ahhhhhh... Nothing's funnier than watching a man escape the electric chair only to find out he's been turned into al iving dynamo. =D

Never seen it, but just looked it up... that's a good cast there. May have to catch it.

As for funny films...

I don't have very sophisticated tastes when it comes to funny films. I can cope with satire for the length of a show, but by the end of a film I always feel as if too much has gone over my head, so I tend to go for simpler humour.

The Emperor's New Groove

Boths Shreks

Around the World in 80 days

etc

Kid's stuff really. I also tend to find the humour in serious films much more rewarding than an out and out funny film. |

The funniest show of all time, beyond a reasonable doubt, is Coupling-- not the cruddy Americanized version where they 'changed the jokes so Americans would understand them' but the BBC verision.

Aside from that, as easily as I amuse myself, most of the movies I see aren't very funny. I'm also getting pretty tired of the racial humor: "I'm funny because I'm black/white/redneck/hispanic and act flamboyantly and sterotypically black/white/redneck/hispanic." Yup. |

I hate comedies that try to be cool. Examples:

Old School

Road Trip

The Girls Next Door

Van Wilder

... Just to name a few.

I also didn't think Anchorman was funny (except for that big rumble between all of the different news teams. That was pure genius!)

Good comedies:

The Man Who Knew Too Little

Red Dwarf (Sex! I think I found it! )

Napoleon Dynomite

What About Bob?

Meet the Parents (both the first and the sequal killed ^_^ )

Liar Liar

Shawn of the Dead
