I'm having a problem getting my picture on Fanart Central! I click to add picture from file (because it's in paint set)but then it says the file is too big! And I don't know how to shrink them! What do I do??? _________________ Have you ever had that feeling when you gotta type something,
but you don't know what to type?
But you type something anyway!?
And usually it makes no sense.
But people took their time to read it anyway?
Yeah, I get it a lot. |

First off, this has been asked before. If you'd taken the time to look through previous posts on the subject, or perhaps even the FAQ, you could have gotten a quicker answer than waiting for a reply here.
Now, if your images are bitmaps (.bmp), they will not upload, regardless of how you fix them up. Bitmaps are HUGE files, but unfortunetly, the common file type of MSPaint. Try transfering the images into another program, like Paintshop or Photoshop, and clicking "Save As..." Now, save the image as a ".jpeg". This should reduce the file sive siginifigantly. If you're still over by a few kbs, try dropping the colour level from a billion colours down to 256 colours. This will make the quality of the image go down, but will reduce the size.

Bitmaps are Windows's (and hence, MS Paint's) native format because they are not compressed and thus very quick to load into computer memory.
It is this uncompressed nature of the bitmap that makes their filesizes absolutely huge and, thus, unsuitable for Internet use.
A few notes:
- On Paint's "Save As" dialog box, MAKE SURE you choose your file format from the dropdown list of file types. Simply giving the file a ".gif" or ".jpg" extension, while the dropdown list still says "Bitmap", WILL NOT WORK.
- Recommend GIF over JPEG format for MS Paint art. The JPEG format works best with continuous color tones like in a traditional art or high-quality Photoshop drawing, but it'll produce very noticeable degradation if you try to use it on simple lineart.
- Whether you have GIF and/or JPEG support in your MS Paint depends on your computer. If all you see are Bitmap options in Paint's Save As dialog box, then grab yourself a copy of a free image converter utility like LView Pro and use that utility to load your bitmaps and convert them into GIF or JPEG format. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
