I found someone else who loves those Pern books! Wow! Lol. Very Happy I love anything by Anne McCaffrey, Im currently reading Pegasus In Space. My fav Pern book would be....... All the Weyrs of Pern. Yup. Laughing

And DG I think it was you that said you liked the DragonLance Saga? I love those books as well. About a year ago I drew a pic of Malystryx, it can be found here.

Yup yup. Smile Theres an even newer one, Dragon's Kin, which is a collaboration of her and her son (really good, you should read it. Its more about watch-wher's, though). I remember finding a few inconsistencies in that one, but oh well.

May I ask why she doesn't seem to like people doing fanart and fanfiction based on her work? Fanfiction and elfwood say that work based on her stories isn't allowed.

Really? Thats strange..... Ill look at that eventually. It might be the publisher. Im planning on doing a fan art picture of one of her stories eventually, though.

Its mainly fantasy stuff. With a bit of sci-fi.

I've read some of her other books, but not the dragon riders. She's pretty good.

General plot thing:
An Earth-like planet was colonized and then forgotten about. The people living on there were doing fine untill these mindless spores, called "Thread" started falling from the sky. They eat everything organic, but they cant eat through metal, stone, they drown in water, and fire burns them. So the colonists bio engineered dragons to burn the Thread in the sky. So most of the stories are about the dragons, their riders, and how theyre all trying to survive.

It kind of seems like a silly plot line, but the stories are actually intersting, if you care for fantasy/sci fi. The best book to start with would be Dragonflight.

My advice is to start with Dragonflight, then read Dragonquest, the White Dragon, All the Weyrs of Pern, and then the Skies of Pern. After all that, you should read Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern. It's not the same time period, but it's a good story.

Dragonsong, Dragonsinger, and Dragondrums is the order of the Harper Hall trilogy, which takes place on Pern but is more about fire-lizards then dragons.

The other Pernese books can be read in just about any order after you've read those up there. Hope that helped. Smile
