1. so this doesnt do it for me....actually, I dont think it sounds punk at all, way way too slow. You need a double bass on the drums, I hope your putting a bass part in, are you gonna mix two guitars together? Maybe a rythm guitar with another one playing some awesome riffs? I personally love bass solos, so that would be an awesome addition!!!

2. Sorry, but the vocals are way too whiny. I mean, just not for punk.

3.Good for maybe emo or soft punk....but not for punk.

4. Maybe I came off a tiny bit harsh. If it sounded like I was saying you were horrible at music, I didnt mean that at all. hehe. Maybe im just paranoid of sounding mean....I like to be nice, hehe. I just ment it didnt sound like punk.
1. It's not supposed to be actual punk. I can play Ramones and Misfits no problem. My intention is to add another guitar, but I have no bass. Maybe I'll down tune it to a certain string, I don't know.
2. That was the point. I'm not sure if you realize my intention is to mock whiny "punk" bastards... I'm a hard rocker/metalhead myself, and my real music shows it.
3. Good, I'll make fun of them too.
4. If you think this is an actual effort, you're mistaken. Trust me, this is nothing but two powerchords and nothing else. My original intention was to act out something at the end of the piece. Sorta like:
Me: Whoa man, that was simple. Whatever did you DO?
Me as punk dude: I used two powerchords and had my solo reflect my emotions.
Me: You felt like licking your mother's pussy? Cause that's what I got outta that.
MAPD: N-n-no, now you got me cryin'....
Me: Maybe you need to be taught, give my my guitar.
MAPD: I-I'm a loser.....
Me: Damn straight, and away we GO!
Enter intense solo. Trust me, this is like playing with my tongue. It's simple.

You know, I got to thinking about this on the way to class this morning while listening to a song called "Don't Complain". It basically sums up everything we've criticized nu-punk for. The summary being "Life's a bitch, you know it sucks, shut the fuck up about it" only in nicer terms.

And MagicWings, I think I just saw the point go flying over your head. Wink

omfg u r teh punkest!!!!!

It's by TUFF. I've got about another month before the Super Box set stops being shiny and new. The chorus is

So don't blame me when I don't call
And I'm not who you want me to be
You should have known, it's no mystery
That you and I got a taste for tears
Oooh and the thrill of pain
So don't complain

It was released years ago when the nu-punk/metal/emo style was just getting started, and the style of the song almost reflects it. It starts out more or less mocking the stereotypical bitching "Why is love so rough/it makes our hearts/so black and blue to touch" and then goes into the "you knew it was going to happen anyway, so I don't want to hear about all your problems".

Good song. Not one of their best, but it reminded me of this thread. Speaking of which, you'd probably like this song if you heard it. It's fun.

I hate it when people compare this new emo to punk. Punk is deffinitly not whinny, im gonna go cry in a corner kind of music. Actually, emo is the exact opposite of what punk is. I realize that a lot of these "soft punk" kids these days only play powerchords, but a lot of them are really good too. Rufio, for example, has an awesome guitarist. Even though its not the type of music I listen to, I have to admit they are really good.

A lot of punk groups are really really good too. Rancid's bassist is freakin amazing! Tim is a pretty good guitarist too. Tiger Army's bassist is, also, really really awesome! A lot of the old 80's punk is really easy to play, but that's not why their popular. Mostly what they stand for and it is really catchy. I have to admit I love to listen to the Ramones and Misfits. I would never say they have awesome musicians in their band, but their not really "bad".

I see where your going with the whole emo thing. I cant stand bands who have all songs about girls and relationships. Gets kind of old after a while. But that doesnt mean their not good. Dashboard is surprisingly a good guitarist. Not awesome, but a lot better than a powerchord whore. heh....I like to say that.

With me being a huge music fan, I can't diss any certain type of music. My home in music will always be with punk and Psycho-billy, but I love everything. Bands and genres have their ups and downs, but it's not right to say their not "talanted" in their own way. Im not biased to one genre, and it wouldnt be right of me to put down other genre's just because I dont agree with them. I mean, would it be very professional of slash to come out and tell every guitarist in the world they suck?

You see that flash of light in the sky? No?
That was the point...
You're missing the point entirely. Seriously, read over the entire thread, maybe some of mny posts on nu-punk.
And in case you haven't noticed, punk is dead.
I never said a damn thing about Ramones, Sex Pistols, Misfits, New York Dolls, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc... being bad.

Holy fuck, do a little reading up in the forum before hopping on the soap box.

Did anyone mention the Sex Pistols or Ramones? No? Ok then. ALL that was mentioned was nu-punk pussies who hop around on MTV. That is not punk (although that was a debate for another thread). Period.

And no one criticized true original punk for being "easy". The point was to not be skilled musicians and rebel against the bland, generic pop of th times. What the hell are nu-punks rebelling against? They have no reason besides money and fame. Period. You don't have to be a great musician, but you sure as hell better have a reason for not being. Kurt Cobain proved you can write simple music with purpose and don't need the spandex, guitar gods, and power singers. Nu-punk has none of that. No excuse for being shitty musicians and a waste of space.
I mean, would it be very professional of slash to come out and tell every guitarist in the world they suck?
He would, and he has. Rolling eyes Because he's Slash, and he doesn't have to be nice. And neither do we.

You can keep your holier than thou "true music fan" attitude all you want, but I'll tell you right now it ain't gonna fly if you try to blow off every negative post in this forum by saying "it's all music". No shit it's music, and I don't know about you, but Flea and I don't want to sit here touching ourselves and posting about how cool everything is.

Thank you, please drive through...

FallenAngel:

Im sorry. I didnt realize you totally missed everything I was talking about. I am a very laid back person and never tried to upset anyone.

I didnt see anything before my first post saying, "This is nu-punk" My assumptions were bassed on reading this page. If you wanted me to know this is Nu-punk and not punk it should have been said and not named, "MockPunk Song." In the first post it says, " Here's the first part to it. See if it sounds "punk" enough for you." When did it say, "this is nu-punk not street punk?" I have no idea how many people I have run into that thinks all punk is "emo". The reason being because they only listen to what is on the radio. I didnt know if this was one of those casses, and I made an assumption. But I never said it was bad (even though it was suppose to be) and just stated I didnt think it sounded like punk. (and since everyone is putting too much into what I am saying I will go ahead and type, "I KNOW IT WAS NOT SUPPOSE TO SOUND LIKE PUNK!" I didnt know until flea said something in his next reply. Then, I just ellaborated and tried to start a conversation. I tried not to say "I don't think writing this song was a good idea because it seems a bit immature", but instead stated my opinion thinking maybe someone will understand. I never expected anyone to turn around all at once and say, "your right!" I was just stating my opinion the same as you.)

My last post was saying I do know what you are talking about. I was just trying to say in a matture way that all bands in a specific genre are not bad. You cant judge a book by its cover. If you truly appreciate music than you will appreciate the other musicians around you. Talk to some bands and you will see this. It doesnt mean you have to like them. I still hate a lot of bands, but I can learn to appreciate them. I just think its a bit immature to go off on tangents about how much a band sucks and the people who like them.

I never said that the ramones and misfits were mentioned. I used them as an example.

The reason I stated this:
"I hate it when people compare this new emo to punk. "
was to say I agree with most of the emo stuff, I hate it when people compare it to punk because it is my home in music, and I have common ground with you. But I was trying to say besides all of that, I do think some of the bands are talanted. I didnt say this because, "I still think you are saying your song was aimed towards the punk crowed." You missed my point completely.

Finnaly, the reason this was stated:
"A lot of the old 80's punk is really easy to play, but that's not why their popular. Mostly what they stand for and it is really catchy. I have to admit I love to listen to the Ramones and Misfits. I would never say they have awesome musicians in their band, but their not really "bad"" was because this was stated, "I can play Ramones and Misfits no problem." I thought he was just saying that it was easy to play and I agree. They are easy to play. I never said it was a bad or wrong opinion. I was just talking about mine. I was just cassualy talking about 80's music without any intentions. Since they were mentioned in another post I felt like it was appropriate of me to comment. Just thinking outloud.

This is why I hate the internet. People come into a topic all defensive and ready to jump the gun. They dont really think, "Maybe she's just cassualy talking about a subject and stating her mind." I wasnt trying to upset anyone, just startting a conversation.

Why the Hell are you trying to debate on my thread?!
How did you miss the point of it not being actual punk? It's in the title. It's right there "Mock Punk Song".
"Punk" with quotation marks is like Dr. Evil's hooking his fingers.
You obviously mistake me. You don't think I've done my research? That I've heard soft punk, nu punk, emo, actual punk, grunge punk, etc.....?
Come on.
You missed my point completely.
No, I ignored it as it's not the POINT.
This is why I hate the internet. People come into a topic all defensive and ready to jump the gun. They dont really think, "Maybe she's just cassualy talking about a subject and stating her mind." I wasnt trying to upset anyone, just startting a conversation.
No, the thing here is this: it's a mock punk song, meant to poke fun at people trying to pass crap like that as actual punk on the circuit. I'm defensive here because instead of me posting more stuff, I'm getting this stuff on "how it needs to sound more punk".
That's what you're missing. The POINT we've been talking about. When did you hear a nu-punk band EVER sound like the Ramones?
Misfits, Sex Pistols, etc..
"I don't think writing this song was a good idea because it seems a bit immature"
Again, THE POINT.
I didnt see anything before my first post saying, "This is nu-punk" My assumptions were bassed on reading this page. If you wanted me to know this is Nu-punk and not punk it should have been said and not named, "Mock Punk Song."
THE POINT is in the title. Punk bands today unknowingly mock Ramones and Misfits, I mock the bands who mock those I like.
Assumptions are stupid. When you assume, you make an ass out of you and me.
You're still missing the point, so let me tell you the POINT.
THIS IS INTENDED TO MOCK BANDS LIKE GOOD CHARLOTTE, YELLOWCARD, SIMPLE PLAN, AVRIL LAVIGNE, ETC. I would have thought it obvious because of the LYRICS.
I could care less about Misfits and Ramones because they had their day and now these bastards are fuckin' it up. I don't care about maturity, it's all for a POINT.
But you keep MISSING it.

Lesson number one about the FAC music forum (particularly Flea and I): People are never as pissed as they seem.

It takes too many words to account for all possible intentions.
Talk to some bands and you will see this.
Ok, I'll talk to some bands... Let's see, would local bands be ok, or do I have to only consider the opinions of "professional" musicians I talk to? 'Cause Taime Downe may have a better opinion than Billy Bob from the local bar band. But I talk to a lot of professional assholes, so...

In the words of Stevie Rachelle: "All bands suck. Except us. And Slayer, but they're the only cool ones. Everyone else sucks."

No one here has time to add "(except blah blah blah, who's talented)" to everything. It'd be like me saying hair metal had big hair and spandex and having to add (well except LA Guns, who wore all black and leather and Faster Pussycat who wore a lot of velvet yadda yadda yadda...). Not needed. Exceptions are too much trouble and don't really have any effect on the statement as a whole. Ok, maybe there's a couple exceptions, but it's just assumed that the person means "in general".

"In general", MTV pop punk blows. One or two talented people don't make up for the overal suck-tastic nature of it. And there's far more reasons that have been discussed in other threads than a simple lack of talent, but the thread was just about Flea's parody.

Most musicians I know have no problem with that. But if that makes them immature jackasses, I wouldn't want to know any other kind. Rolling eyes

*sigh* you are way too easily wound up. I wasnt trying to debate anything as you can see from my last post. So, you assumed as well. I never stopped you from posting more stuff. I told you I understand, so I dont know why you keep posting you keep missing it in big letters. I've said it 5 times so I dont know if your actually reading my posts completely or just ignoring what im saying and assuming that I am trying to debate with you. In my first post, I did think you were trying to write a punk song and make fun of punk. I dont care if you make fun of punk at all, but I didnt think it sounded close so I wanted to suggest something. Then you said it wasnt suppose to be punk, so then I just ellaborate by saying, in one sentance, "Good thing, cuz I hate it when people get punk and emo mixed up." Then you say I still missed the point and my last post was saying I did understand im sorry you missed the point of my last post. and here we go again. Im sorry, but I dont want to fight with anyone and I dont know why you are getting so defensive and wound up over nothing.

And because I see you cant understand that, this is the last post I am making explaining what I was saying. I am sorry I assumed you were making fun of Punk, I am sorry I appologized by saying I hate it when people get the two mixed up because I love punk and couldnt care less about emo, Im sorry you misunderstood my post because you were defensive from the first post I made, I'm sorry I think its immature and unprofessional to whine this much about how whinny/crappy emo is that you have to write a song about it, and im sorry that you probably think im being a jerk. I'm really not and if you just read my posts you'll probably see that. Im sorry.

Okay first of all Flea, your song kicks major ass. Total bitch slap to Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Yellowcard, etc. You've done me proud. Cool

Second of all lemme just say "Holy crap!" in response to Mandi and fallen and Flea. We really can't just have fun without someone missing the entire idea of the thread. *Sigh* This is why one must read before posting. Lol!
'Cause Taime Downe may have a better opinion than Billy Bob from the local bar band. But I talk to a lot of professional s, so...
Let's bring Taime Downe here and see what he thinks. But then again, do we really want to end up like Metal-sludge? God, this seems to happen all the time. People bitch slap at us for mocking punk. <_< It ain't gonna work here.

If its any consolation though I didn't catch Mandi's point (if there was one Flea) is she mad at you and fallen? Whatever...
QUOTE
I mean, would it be very professional of slash to come out and tell every guitarist in the world they suck?

He would, and he has. Because he's Slash, and he doesn't have to be nice. And neither do we.
Lmao! Laughing Of course Slash would do that. He can do anything he wants because he's Slash. After all, we all know that Axl's done worse. Wink I just needed to say something about that 'cuz Mandi's comment about that made me laugh 'cuz its just a big "DUH!" Slash ain't nice and knows he don't have to be. Lol! ^_^

But nice song Flea. I like it. Wish I could download it to my MP3 and show it to my friends in the theater. They'd get a huge kick out of this.

:EDIT:

Okay since fallen and flea probably aren't here yet I'll respond to this one. First of all, this post isn't about wheter or not emo or punk is good or bad or even if all music is good. This thread is about flea's song and how it may or may not kick ass. Its all your opinion. But this thread wasn't inteded to be taken so damn seriously. I understand that you're sorry and we'll forgive you if just lighten up and take a stab at MTV punk. Cool If you do however want to debate about how good all music is or what type of punk is better than start your own topic or better yet do a search for an old topic like it and start it up again. See? That way this whole deal can blow over and we can just get back to bitch slapping MTV. 'Cuz quite frankly, I'm getting tired of people getting fallen and flea peeved off 'cuz they're misunderstood (fallen and flea that is.) <_< Nothing personal against you but just please keep the debating out of this thread and save it for somewhere else.

Im sorry.
'Cuz quite frankly, I'm getting tired of people getting fallen and flea peeved off 'cuz they're misunderstood (fallen and flea that is.) <_< Nothing personal against you but just please keep the debating out of this thread and save it for somewhere else.
no, im not mad at all. That is what I was trying to say. Im really not mad and I have no problem with it. I was just trying to appologize for assuming something in my first post, then everyone still thinks I dont understand and that im trying to debate with them. I do understand and besides what I think of the intentions of the song, I was trying to say I agree with flea because I hate it when people get my favorite type of music mixed up with emo. Does that make any sense? Am I the only one that understands what I am saying?

about the slash thing, I was just using him as an example because I know he is the best guitarist in the world. I've never personally heard him say anything bad about any type of music, so I was just using him to try and get my little point across.

I didnt take anything seriously, actually. I already admited that when I first came into the thread I thought it was a serious song cuz I didnt see anything saying it wasnt. So I did comment. after he explained it wasnt serious, I shrugged it off and just tried to say I do agree with the whole emo thing. Opinions are fine. Everyone is entitled to their own and I have no problem with it what so ever. I was just saying mine about the intentions of the song in a "nice" way and I didnt expect anyone to get pissed off at me. I really dont care about his opinion, its just the fact that everyone turned around what I said.

Does that make sense? Im really not mad at anyone. Im laid back and I dont get mad. I try not to debate about anything and that wasnt what I was trying to do. My personality really doesnt care about anything and its really easy for me to shrug stuff off. I was just trying to tell him that, "well its good I was wrong cuz I hate it when people get emo mixed up with punk even though Im still not biased and I'll listen to everything cuz I believe every band has potential." Nothing against him at all. I have no problem with him....thats all I was trying to say. Im really sorry I confused everyone.

Why do people seem to think we care about what their personality is like? Just f**king say "I wasn't mad..."

Go edumacate your definition of punk: Moosik

My God... there's enough swearing, bitch slapping and drug-use in their songs to kill an elephant.

*sigh* nevermind. I see the maturity of some members on this board. (not directed towards Fallen, Flea, or eclipsedmoongoddess482. I see how they might have misunderstood what I was saying and im not mad at them)

You might wanna rethink what you just posted. I dont see how MSI is punk or anywhere near punk

*sorry flea for posting this. The last post just made me mad. I'll stop posting now*

Now you're making assumptions again.
We're generally nice people, but we tend to prefer to get the point across and solid before we continue.
Just remember this isn't about accuracy. It's about pokin' fun at idiots. Smile
To be honest, the maturity we display is something reflective of the maturity we see.
