And I hate to say it, but you're a moron.
No no, wait... YOU'RE A BLIND, IGNORANT, FOOLISH, NAIVE, SHEEP, INCAPABLE OF MAKING YOUR OWN DECISIONS WITHOUT A MASS CORPORATE INSTITUTION DICTATING WHAT IS "COOL".
But ya know, what you're a fan of means nothing in this thread. It's about most talented and influential. Avril is neither of those. Doesn't matter whether you like someone or not; it doesn't change how important they are.

Now now fallen, just because someone is "mainstream" is no reason to hate them. I listen to whatever I want, including Avril, whether somebody says it's cool or not. _________________ |

It's not a matter of whether she's mainstream or not. In case you haven't noticed, Led Zep, The Beatles, Gn'R, Aerosmith, and Nirvana are all mainstream. More mainstream, in fact. "Underground" does not make something "good" anymore than being mainstream makes something "bad".
It's the fact she's a worthless little thing that is a waste of space. Her lyrics are painfully cliche and empty, her look is tired and label-forced, and her musical skills are amateur at best. Look at her right before she was signed. Nothing like her well known style. The label wanted a female "punk" to appeal to the angsty brats who didn't like Britney, and that's exactly what they made. There is nothing original or genuine about her.
I don't think I even have to point out the plain stupidity of "Sk8er Boi".
I'm Standing on a bridge
I'm waitin in the dark
I thought that you'd be here by now
Theres nothing but the rain
No footsteps on the ground
I'm listening but theres no sound
Could we have some more useless imagery, please? I don't think that song has enough bad metaphors and attempts at poetry. You can write a song about a tired topic, but not if you go about it in the same tired way.
"Nobody's Fool"... Oh yeah, you're very "real" babe. The fact you started wearing ties and studded bracelets after getting a deal so kids would relate to your "super unique" style?
"My Happy Ending" - What rhyming talent. It just oozes creativity. Again with the unoriginal approach.
Her look is generic, her lyrics are generic, and her talent is minimal. So what is there to qualify her? Nothing! There are so many bands that deserve to be making records and get exposure, but kids are too busy idolizing people like Avril.
But again, the point is not what you like. I would have voted for Faster Pussycat if it were. The poll is for most talented and influential. Avril has influenced no one, except perhaps some respectable people who use her as an example of what never to be. And her music is mediocre at best in skill. So I really don't see the issue. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Did we forget to mention Avril went punk after she listened to Nirvana's Greatest Hits?
In an interview, she admitted:
"I don't really know how to play. I don't think you need to, y'know? You just finger what you feel and let it go"
I believe it. Her lyrics aren't great at all, considering they've been used around 600 times before.
She was playing Shania Twain before this...
Avril will never be as good as Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Guns N' Roses, AC/DC, Jimi Hendrix, Velvet Revolver, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Lyrnyrd Skynyrd.......
Etc..etc...etc.....
So you're automatically incorrect(yes, we can VERY much say you're incorrect, as this is actually a poll with only 3 or 4 acceptable answers).
Led Zeppelin
Black Sabbath
The Doors
Def Leppard
AC/DC
are bands I'd accept as the best bands ever, the "punk" bands are up there for idiots to gloat on how "true" they are. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.
Def Leppard
Please don't tell me you just said that Joe Elliot being named better than Robert Plant or Jim Morrison would be acceptable. They're...They're...The boyband of 80s metal. Granted they did write and play their songs, and they are very good, but "best band"? Wha-?
Besides, they should be disqualified for subjecting the world to "X".
Maybe they could win for bravest little soldier or something, what with Rick. But Def Lep hardly beats half the people on that list. Besides, anyone who thinks Def Lep is good should like AC/DC or Aerosmith enough to see them as better. Or perhaps Gn'R. Of course Def Lep was a bit more sugary than any of those (ooh, bad pun! Yay!).
Def Lep. Oh how you amuse me, Flea. But dammit, now I have Pour Some Sugar On Me stuck in my head. One of my very favorite karaoke songs. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Better than Avril. I'd accept Primus over Avril.
Notice: I'D find them acceptable. I would have put Gn'R, but, y'know... _________________ Not all who wander are lost.
