Fanfiction Forum Confusion

I'm one of the what seems to be few people that still frequent the Fanfiction forum, and there seems to be a lot of confusion there lately..

With the exceptions of threads posted by the three or four older members, the rest is just 'READ MY STORY PLZ!!!!KTHXBYE' or 'I NEED CHARACTERS!!'

it's even gotten to the point that we're getting threads about problems uploading fanfiction that should really belong in the help section.

I think this may have to do with that the forum description is basically saying 'this is a forum for fanfiction' and not getting clear on the point it's more geared towards discussions ABOUT fanfiction/writing. No matter how many times users are told or how many threads/posts are posted about how fanfic writers just post their fics in Fanfiction Critique or Self-Promotion, no one seems to get the goddamn point. Maybe if the forum description was changed to something more along the lines of 'this is a forum to talk about writing in general' (maybe even have the forum name changed to 'Writing' or something along the lines or that?) or a post from a mod about this or something so it will get through to people.

I changed the rules at the top yesterday at Strata's request. The forum description still applies 'cause there's the critiques sub... But there is a big "NOTE" at the top now. Smile

Yeah, after Silver's last rant I sent fallen a PM asking for the text note at the top. Hopefully that'll give newbies warning before they go do something stupid....

Now if only they'd get the distinction between Art Help and Art Tips/Suggestions/Tutorials, two forums with a rather subtle line between them....
