No, the Gods of Heavy Metal are Kiss and Black Sabbath.
And Led Zep. They technically won the VH1 list of best metal bands... and we all know how accurate those lists are.
It's sad when their best list, as far as being accurate and unbiased goes, is their top 40 hair band list. Sad sad sad. But I digress... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
Black Sabbath was the first recongized band of heavy metal (wern't they expecting their music to be hard rock ),
Um, no. Ozzy wanted to be The Beatles, but Sabbath's music reflected life in Birmingham. They didn't want it to be anything, and the heavily distorted, dark sound became the standard for heavy metal. Plus they successfully changed lead singers and continued to make great music. They were more ground breaking, influential, and all around a bigger and better metal band than Met.
Just because they helped define it doesn't mean they're excluded from the running because they couldn't cling to a label. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

old school Metallica was great.
the new incarnation is crap.
comparing Metallica to classics like LZ or that left handed muthaf*cking guitar GENIUS, Jimmi Hendrix, is apples to oranges.
GN'R, some good songs yeah, but between Hammet and Slush... I'll pick Kirk any day. Ever hear Slush play live? He's all thumbs, and his riffs are messy.
an appropriate comparison would be Metallica's contempraries, like Megadeth.
... yes, I purposely typed SLUSH... |

Interestingly enough, yes, and he sounded better then than any other time, except for Paradise City. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

...I'm gonna be a good girl and not say anything in response to that. Even though I want to, I won't 'cuz I'll just end up making people mad. <_<
Yeah, I heard Slash can be sloppy live. His guitar playing live actually reminds me of Steve Tyler performing live. My uncle has been to like seven Aerosmith concerts and he's told me that Steve Tyler is either gonna sound amazing or he's gonna sound like nails on a chalkboard. But he was fortunate enough to go to a Guns 'n Roses concert on a good day for Slash and apparently Slash played a 20 minute solo for no reason at all (and somewhere in the solo The Godfather theme was brought in. It was so damn awesome. ) But most players are like that on some days. Depends on how smashed or high they are before or durring the concert.
Um...as for Metallica...I have no opinion on them concidering that I have not heard a single song from them in my life. I mean, I know the other day a guy played some CD called "The Black Album" in my art class and it seemed okay. The songs seemed to blend into each other and I couldn't tell when one song started and when one song finished. But thats all I have to say about Metallica. So...is it worth listening to or should I not even bother putting it on my "CD Tower List?"
*Whispers* By the way, its Slash. I have to just say that. I know that you know its Slash but in my opinion he's a guitar god and I hate it when people make puns out of his name. <_< _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |
Hammet is emotionless.
This is probably a very stupid question to ask in a Metallica thread but I'm not sure about this...who is Hammet? Is he the guitarist of Metallica or something? 'Cuz I sure know as hell that Slash ain't emotionless when he plays.
I need to listen to the November Rain bootleg tape. Its got nothing but Slash's guitar playing throughout the whole song.
So I take it that Metallica isn't good? Just assuming by the way this thread is going.

Controversial. Metallica is supposedly the definition of all that is metal, although it certainly isn't.
Metallica has emotionless guitar, tinny drums, and bass that I can teach a 5th grader.
It's nothing new to me. _________________ Not all who wander are lost.

I still say Lars' sound on St. Anger is gonna be all the rage in 2005. All the bands are gonna start doing it. And then I'll kill someone, and you'll get to see me on the news.

When you've got bottles of JD sitting on and/or off stage, you can't expect much.
He played great absolutely wasted when most guitarists of the time couldn't even stand up. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Do they at least have decent lyrics to make up for crappy playing? Or are they as overcompensated as I've heard they are? I can understand if a band's playing is a little off as long as the songs are lyrically kick ass but if the playing and the lyrics suck then I just may have to not bother with them.
Ozzy Osbourne and Black Sabbath are the definition of all that is metal. No questions asked.

Damn right! This is why I love Slash so much. You just aren't gonna find anyone as good as Slash these days. Determination, passion, talent, emotion, focus, awesome hair, great body after 20 years...what more could a metalhead ask for?

Heh... Not saying it's live or fake (haven't heard it), but do you know how many "live" albums are either touched up or not live at all?
It'd take an afternoon (at most) for them to perfect any live performance by anyone and make it sound brilliant. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Uh, good for them?
I was talking about audio enhancement. You can do the same thing with video as you can with plain audio. Like I said, I haven't heard it, just sayin' a "live recording" doesn't mean anything. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I just love their lyrics! the solos are awesome! I always end up rewinding the cds just so I can hear them over and over again. I can't don't understand why so many of their fans ditch them after the whole nabster incident. I've heard people say that they care more about the money than the music, but when music is your life, you don't want any of it being stole. it's like someone making a career out of drawing. if someone started making copies of your art & giving it away free, you'd want some justice, right? well, okay I'm done rambling on now. |
