I've been having trouble promoting myself. I already have a site, and I'm on Fanart Central, but I cant seem to get myself out there, and I was wondering If I should try having my art on another site, or should I just give up and remain unkown.....
I'm starting to think my art is awful... |

You tend to get more exposure at deviant art. That, and you also have a higher caliber of artists on that site. I recomend it. _________________

go for it...it's free anyways and just as long you keep active on that site, people will see your art frequently ^^
just one thing that annoys me about that site: you can't use the browsing function unless you suscribe and pay money. And it used to be free =_= but your problem doesn't seem to concern browsing for other arts...so yeah...try joining the site and see what happens ^^ |

1. DA search feature does and always has sucked. If you used it when it was free, you know this, and it hasn't changed since it became a subscriber-only feature (I had a week long subscription awhile ago as part of a survey...). Use Google advanced search, and limit the domain to deviantart.com The DA search gives horrible, nearly useless results.
2. Exposure is only minorly better on DA than here. The only reason that is, is because DA alerts you when someone from your watch list submits something, so people watching you can/will comment. FAC, it's more or less luck of uploading at a good time, having a popular subject matter, extreme name recognition (like Seifer-Sama), etc.
3. You'll have to work either way. Yes, DA is bigger with some nice features, but there are thousands of unknown artists there. You have to work your butt off either way if you want to be noticed. Only the truly outstanding artists get popularity handed to them, and those are one in a million. If you're happy with a little group of watchers who consistently comment on your work, comment around on people who seem to be interested in similar things and hope they look at your gallery. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Make sure to set the Google search for matches "in the page title only", otherwise the results you get will be . . . noticeably less relevant <_<
Like fallen says, part of exposure is name and art recognition. Some artists have quite a following, and stuff like that just doesn't happen overnight (or even a fortnight) . _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

All right, Fallen has already said it clearly enough. ^^ DA is really big. Actually if you look closely enough, there are even clubs for you to join. Both FAC and DA are good, and they both have their own advantages and disadvantages (everything does since I think nothing is perfect). It depends on you to join or not to. Since I like both FAC and DA, I couldn't say much more. But if you have any questions, you can feel free to ask me. ^^
P/s: Don't ever think your art is awful! ^^ _________________ ~Care to join me with my doujinshi projects, dearest Malaysia fellows?~ |

Join as many art sites as you can, maximise your exposure. The more places you can post new art and have it on the front page, however briefly, the better.
Aslo, I put all my galleries in my sigs, for cross-site shameless promotion, that sometimes works too ;p |

Join Deviantart. I'm not even that good an artist and I have 50 people deviant watching me, but I expose myself quite a bit and have 500+ deviations...stroke of insanity |

I joined Deviantart, only to submit my work. So far, I'm only getting one or two comments at most for some of my submitted work. Most of the time, I get no comments. It's pretty tough to get noticed after you stray for awhile. It does help to be active and comment other's works. |

always with anything you want in life thats worth it, it will take time and effort. as several people here have said, put yourself on as many sites as possible to promote your work. also as Diathene mentioned, sell yourself in your sig. I see too many sig's here that are totally useless. songs, others art, promote yourself in your signature...I sure as hell do. as for DA vs FAC, its bigger, so you figure its better. you can also get lost in the groundswell of good and bad art there, but its still worth it. get into clubs there and get on others watched lists. sometimes they recipricate and your stuff will be getting views. put comments on others works, but dont expect theyll do the same. when you dont expect it, thats when it happens.
a little advice on YOUR site. sh*t can the midi file when you open it if you can. I listen to my own mp3s when on the net, and Im sure others feel the same, midis are anoying. also some of your pictures look very wrinkled. try laying those under heavy books to get rid of the wrinkles, and try to not wrinkle future works. it looks so much better that way.
good luck...Bruce
ps: Im "Angelsinc" on DA. if you get an account look me up. Ill definetly look back. _________________ 'It has been said that politics is the second oldest profession. I have learned that it bears a striking resemblance to the first.' - Ronald Reagan |

I appreciate the feedback. Thanks, and I wil get rid of the stupid mids and try to keep my art unwrinkled. Oh, and I appreciate the compliment about me being better at cg, lee. I just need more time to practice my pencil art. :)
