The recently added feature of having separate pages for the artwork in recent pictures and artist section is quite nice, thank you!
However, don't you think it would be better if the artist's newer work came first? Then people just browsing through could see the persons most recent art, which usually is improved from their first pieces, especially if they have been here for a long time. That way everyone gets a better scope of the artist...you know? Because first impressions matter!
When the art was all on one long page, it was easy to scroll through to see the improvement or best pictures nearer the bottom, but with the page sections the oldest, and not the person's most recent pictures, are the easiest and first to see. Not that it is insanely difficult, but it would be more convenient that way.
So overall, do you think you could arrange the images under the artists' sections to have the most recent first?
Thanks so much for your time!

Denis already knows about this idea, he'll get around to programming it when he has the time. He's a busy man.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

You could create a "how-to" page where users can read how to navigate around the new layout. If they don't read it then they won't understand and you'll be flooded with mail.. Hmm I'm sure you'll think of something.. |

Couldn't you just post on the front page that the order has been reversed? If it's made clear enough, there shouldn't be any problems, right? Although it may take a bit of getting used to, I agree that the pages setup makes it less accesible. And you said that was your 'only concern', so does that mean it wouldn't take much time to program? |

In theory, cstdenis should be able to copy some of the code already used in the category listings and apply those to artist galleries... but that's just theory talking....
Sort options for artist galleries would be the best route to go, i.e. "Newest First" and "Oldest First". THAT would eliminate any confusion. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

if you think you can prouble do this, (i'll warn you, i'm off topic ) you should make and way that the art tha gets "sumited" shall have robots to put them up, like an java script, or somthing, so you don't need people to do it, |

The problem, woofinghoun, is not that people are doing the posting. It's that robot would not be able to differenciate between an acceptable pic and a not-so-acceptable pic. A lot of people still don't follow the rules and post images that are too large, on lined paper, ect. A machine could not pick out the good from the bad.

A robot can check for proper file type, filesize, image dimensions, and a readable title pretty easily.
But a robot can't prove:
- That the picture is of a good size, exposure, orientation, and cropping
- That it is placed in the best category available
- That it does not have lines running through it i.e. linedpaper
- That it is not official, copied/traced, or stolen art
- That its rating and advisories match its actual content
- That the artist put time and effort into the drawing
It takes human instinct to verify that. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

For the record, I know that myself and several other FAC members would greatly appreciate this change... the oldest to newest thing has been bothering me ever since I joined. I doubt a new order would confuse people--and even if it did, it isn't like it's a terribly complex thing to understand--it could be cleared up easily. Like Captain Holly Short said, a post on the front page should do the trick... Anyways, the thing is that--after having been on this site for over a year now--it's frustrating to receive more recognition for my older pictures than my newer ones, which are a year apart and a year's worth of practice better. All of the critique and suggestions I am receiving for past drawings, a stage that I have well advanced beyond, would be put to better use if it were directed towards current pieces. Unfortunately, since humans seem to be lazy by nature, very few people ever take the time to scroll down to the bottom of the page and look at new additions. And now, with multiple pages, just imagine the extra effort that will have to go into finding recent pieces! Please give us artists, who wish to make an effective use of this great community you've set up to improve our skills via the criticism and ideas of our peers, a helping hand here and sort the galleries from newest to oldest! |

A note on the main page would be nice, but displaying what the current list order (e.g. "Newest First" or "Oldest First") would be even better. Not all people read the FAC main page that often....
Although, the ideal solution probably still is to implement adjustable sort methods for artists' gallery listings (since the category listings already have 'em) _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Time to share my laments with the sentiment of this thread.
Last weekend, somebody toured the earlier half of my gallery and left lots of comments & faves. And just yesterday, somebody else did the same thing.
I don't hate comments, but it is a little depressing that my older drawings are faved & commented more often than my newer ones. I told both users that if they thought my drawings were awesome then, that they should check out the latter half of my gallery and see the new stuff there. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I like both idea's, and I think both should be made possible. Newest first. And have links in our gallery to choose to view newest or oldest first. _________________ "edit : i luv james" - Layzcarter |
