I've seen all three movies (Viggo Mortensen is a sexy beast!!), but I've only read bits and pieces of the books. I've read from about the 6th chapeter on of the first, am almost finished with the last, and sadly, have only flipped around a bit in the second. I agree that his descriptions can be a bit hard to understand. My complaint is that sometimes he goes on so long I lose interest [short attention span here, peoples!]. But his humour and lifelike characters outstrip many authors today. |

I read all of them. I'm currently in the hobbit. I think that the Council of Elrond turns a lot of peeps off. The beginning wasn't bad. It's just that chapter. It's so boring! |

I own and have read all the Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion (which is a history of the beginning of middle earth, I found boring somewhat ), and have read some of the first of his "the Book of Lost Tales". Anyhoo as far as it being confusing, I can follow it just fine .........after about the third time through. The thing I found is that theres so much book its hard to remember all the little events and keep names straight. But it's definately worth it to read the books all the way through if you have seen the movies. |
