Actually, newbie and n00b are two different things. And "oldies"... well, that's not really an insult. However, calling someone a "n00b" may be insulting to someone - not because of the word itself, but because of the derogatory undertones the word itself carries. "Oldie" isn't insulting because it doesn't carry the same weight as "n00b" does.

And it's not really jargon. :/ Well... "Jargon" either refers to gibberish (which this isn't) or specialized speech. And, well, most of the peoeple here have been to forums before, so most people already know what it is. :/ So it doesn't really matter. You go to a forum, you should expect forum terms to crop up.

By the way, it's not wise to "attack" other members of the forum, especially when they've been here far longer than you have. :/ Besides, Silver hasn't actually been doing anything particularly cruel for a while. She just points out basic forum rules, that's all. But I'm not sure if you would know this, because I believe most of her posts are in the anime/manga subforum, wehre n00bs crop up more often than other places. -.o;

By jargon, I mean slang. Some language or form of speaking invented by a particular group of people; In this case, forum geeks. Case and point, that l33t and teh crap I keep seeing popping up here and there.

And what I say IS in fact baffling, and I don't know why you'd call any of the things I said pretentious or convoluted. Pretentious my ass, this is a damn forum. And show me ONE convoluted thing I have said in this topic....and I'll give you a congratulatory handshake.

To set the record straight (since this term comes from rping Muahaha and I ish the rper that I am).

NEWBIE= New at something, new person, new on the block, just frankly new.

N00B= Ref. to a person staying in the newbie ways when they are clearly more mature than they are. They normal speak with idiotcy and do not know a thing but still think they know more than everyone else. A n00b is an insult because it is stateing you are a neanderthal (sp?) and you don't know what the f**k your talking about.

Actually, DF, the word's [i]complimented[/i] (one letter makes all the difference) ;)

DF's spot on with the jargon. Around here at least, "newbie" is a statement of fact similar to calling somebody "rookie" or "the new guy".
