The Crow. That is one bad as graphic novel. Better than all the movies put together (which really isn't saying much, since the 2nd and 3rd sucked hard).

As for funny comics, Penny Arcade, man. Gabe is my God, for like God, he creates all with the stroke of his hand. And Tycho, Tycho is my Jesus. For he spreads the word, announcing the good news (or any news) with a lingual skill that is unmatched even by the heralded scribes of old.

I'm quite fond of the Green Arrow series, which lead me on to Teen Titans. I mean, it's ripe with the wry that is real social issues. Speedy beats on women, does heroine like an addict, and then changes his name to Arsenal. I just find it amuseing when comic book characters have to hold an intervention for another hero.

And what made me smile even more was when I found out Speedy 2 is HIV positive. I mean, DAMN! When did superheroes become so flawed. Back in my grandfather's time, it was either Kryptonite or some over-sized boxing glove that took down the superheroe and made you see their imperfections. Now it's an alcoholic Iron Man, a prositute soliciting Green Arrow, and a reverse-Beast Boy universe that's WAY more entertaining than the superhero always getting their man.

If I want comic relief, I'll read Plastic Man. He's nothing but a joke, now. Every page is like a still of the Ren and Stimpy show.

That is why I've always liked Spider-Man. He always seemed very real to me, and dealt with as many real world problems as he did superhero problems (if not more).

Electra was good comics((the old stuff))and spawn....yes spawn is a classic.

I rather enjoy JTHM,Squee, and my newest fave, The Gift.The Gift has a rather nice art style and the story so far is original.

"Luftwaffe 1946" is/was a great series put out by Antarctic Press. It was a what-if book centering on the German airforce's battles if a fictional world. The war didn't end in 1945, aliens really do exist, and the Germans rule the skies. A really good read if you can find it. Well, the first run, anyway. They were realeased bi-monthly and sometimes missed a month, making for not only interrupted issues, but interrupted shipping as well. Finding them was hard then. Finding them now might be harder. The best parts of the series were always the fantastic planes flown by both the Axis and the Aliies. Flying saucers, flying wings, titanic bombers, and internal rotary helicopters. Anything and everything found its way in. It had a few spin offs, notably "Tigers of Terra", before dissapearing off the shelf. Whether or not its made a return, I don't know.

"Spider-Girl" is also a great title. As far as I know, it's still running strong, and probably will be for a long time. As the only title from Marvel's failed "M2" line to make it in the big leagues, it's definetly earned its place. Mayday Parker is the daughter of the original Spider-Man, and from the beginning, this book was special. It not only gave you a character that you couldn't help but love, but integrated the rest of the future world without too much trouble. Other superheroes and teams popped up from time to time, like Darkdevil, A-Next, and the Fantastic Five, but the series presented them to you in a way that wasn't startling, and nothing seemed out of place wen they did it. The stories were always original, and paid enough homage to the original Spider-Man to make the reader feel at home. A real good read.
