i'm pretty sure it's not; that sounds like something more from ancient history than modern-day. |
I'm even going to work in Japan for a while when I grow up just to prove her wrong!
That's a little drastic just to prove a point.
A know a dude who comes from ...Pakistan or Afirca or where ever and he is SO shocked that the women here don't follow his own countries rules. He says all women should walk behind the man in single file, they should perform any act to each other or to him as he asks, he can name them what he wants, he can degrade them and pretty much dominate them.. Women aren't allow'd to interrupt men speaking and they have to ask permission of the man to speak..
Insane.. Some of these rules still do exist but I think it's mainly in the lesser developed countries. |
well I was asking about Japan you know, not the Middle East.
Yeah I realised that when you said 'Japan' those many times I'm not dim.. Not often, anyway.. I was merely saying some places still have rules of such nature.. sexist rules/laws/beliefs.. Simply making a point <_< |

Burned.
I believe the point Gray was TRYING to make was that your mother needs to learn her countries. |

She's 13.
And, on quite the contrary, everyone from Asia thinks that we are arrogant slobs. A good percentage of us are too. So, basically your mother has no room to speak.
Fun fact: On the whole, the Japanese are one of the most racist people in the world. Not meant to offend anyone, just an interesting fact. _________________

You can't do it yourself and I apologise on behalf of everyone for being tempermental through this thread.. This forum's members have been strained with an influx of n00bs, lately.. It's only natural for some slight aggression if an honest thread is misinterpreted.. Otherwise, in future, if you wish to ask something like this again, please just add it into an active/popular thread and keep a part of the post on-topic.. This is a message board, after all, not a question board ^_^
And yeah Elbreth.. She has wanted to work for Square Enix for some time.. the drive of her dream of working there.. the hope of participating in something that you love is enough to make anyone get what they want. Only if they want it enough, though. |

lol
SO not true in fact, one of the ways that girls will "tag" their boyfriend is have them carry their purse when they walk around town, etc T_T interesting to see....
While women in Japan may not have as many carreer opportunities as men T.T;;;; and it is still a very "wives are meant to be in the household" society (in GENERAL, there are ALWAYS exceptions) it's no where near the way your mother described.
In more recent years women have gained a lot more equality in Japan than before (like, now there are male "hosts" as well; if you dont' know what that means I can go into it further)
But if any "Westerners" are interested, if a guy goes to Japan (who doesn't look Asian) you could very well look forward to getting a lot of tail
Girls...you may have a slightly harder time |

I know a little something of the gaming industry, let me tell you, unless you have excellent code writing, 3d modelling skills (serious stuff, 3dmax, maya, and animation to boot) you'll have to rely on concept art. And they only accept the best of the best of the best at square-enix. You'd have to fight your way through the very best of japanese anime drawers as your competition for a job there. So I think I can safely say nobody here on this site has what it takes.
.. maybe not even me.. but I don't want to work for them anyway. I'd much rather work for infogrames or ubisoft, much closer to home. |

if she has enough drive to push herself and work to that level, it's always a possibility.
but you have to keep in mind that nothing is going to come easy as "look! I drew Sailor Moon!!" and they just smile and point you to your personal art studio
If it's worth working for, it'll be HARD to get to
Keep in mind also that there are a LOT of people who want to do the same thing (especially for a big company like that) |

okay, first off, do NOT tell other people (especially someone who's got a lot more seniority over you like Lexar) to "shurt up"
That is a good way to make a lot of people here turn against you.
This is a forum, so you're going to get everyone's opinion whether you like it or not. Learn where you stand before making comments like that.
Just some friendly advice. |

Nah, I'm not offended by it. To be honest, I kinda provoked her. It's just that I don't like it when people claim they want to work at square or nintendo, or make comics for marvel, they don't understand it's virtually impossible with the amount of people who want to go for it. Take square-enix for example. The games are made in japan, you can be sure japanese people have a FAR better shot at working for them, making games, than anyone else, and the competition for artwork over there is way fiercer than in the rest of the world, because there are a lot of excellent anime artists there. A lot. |

I wasn't assuming you'd take offense or not (and trust me, your argument is MORE than reasonable, just trying to leave her with some hope)
But it's never a good thing when a newbie starts off by shouting "shut up" at people just because they stated their opinion. |

The "shut up" part was slightly random
Lexar is right though, I think it's safe to say we'd all be very impressed if you made it into Square.. but.. Don't plan a life on it before it happens. |
