Okay So I find this guy to be genius.. Though I still enjoy works of more serious artists, this guy has very much what I'd consider art. I see art as being anything that portrays emotion of any medium.. I know people will beg to differ and that's why I created thi shere.. It's not so serious to go into an Art thread.. It's only meant for general discussion ^_^

So What do you think :)

Its like I should be able to understand what this guy is trying to say and yet it seems like its some kind of modern art humor that I can't comprehend.

heh.. Why not?

It was very nice of you to post your opinion, but what makes you so sure that it isn't art?

tEdi: I just checked his sculpture area and man is there some clever stuff...

Such as http://www.davidshrigley.com/sculpture_htm...mps/shadow.html

http://www.davidshrigley.com/sculpture_htm.../toe_nails.html

http://www.davidshrigley.com/sculpture_htm...ed_biscuit.html

I find the fact that someone has found this idea intresting and has actively set out to create and achieve is incredible. A wonderful depiction of the human mind lays within that website and if you say that it's not art.. well.. opinions are personal. I'll tolerate them but I won't like them..

Well, Look at it. My class of art is art you can undersdand, Like the old days.
Fine art. Not modern You may enjoy thing things, But i don't. I have had this idea that a Good artist is the sane artist. Not one that take a paint buckit, slaps it on a canvis and call it art. Just look at them. Art to you, Blob to me.

Edit: I LIKE the one with the shadow.

I think that's because you look at what's on display. You must understand and attempt to comprehend the artist's emotion whilst s/he depicted it and created the piece. Then and only then will you find the emotion used to create something so masterful, is something you share. We all have the same emotions available to us.. when we can share emotion between one's self and the artist, the true art is found and portrayed. It really is alot more than a blob. I could say the Mona Lisa is just a bunch of coherent blobs (which it is) though we all see it as something of timeless beauty. That's why it's possibly the most famous piece of art ever. We apply the same commendation to each piece of art as we do when viewing art we all know.

It really is alot more than a blob.

And tell me, then, what separates the graffitti artist's shadow to the blob?

The Shadow, More effort was put in to the "forgeing" of this peice, and you can see that it seemes to be a Shadow, Yet there is not ating casting it.

You described what the piece is. You really mustn't have a clue and seeing as you have an art class, I feel sorry for your tutor(s) who must be puking with rage and your incomprehendability of modern art.

Woopsie, my mistake.

In any case, I said earlier, opposing opinions I will tolerate but possibly dislike. It's a shame this guy's art can't be enjoyed by more people.. such as the people of this forum.. Unless other's post here and share thier thoughts?? *hinthint* Razz Wink

It's art. People here confuse art with skill. I have seen excellent slick fanart pieces with a lot of skill and time put into it, but I consider it poorer art than what this guy is doing.

Nice colors and sharp lines and photoshop coloring doesn't make art, the thought and creativity makes art. I enjoyed it very much, and though I draw better than that guy does, technically, I consider him more an artist than I do myself.

? I dont quite get it.....

...but I agree with some of you about this guy's stuff being art. You dont nececarily(sp?) need to have a complex piece of work to be art. All that matters is creativity and thought, in the end, though the other stuff is important as well.
