I've always liked Tamora Pierce. It's not really a difficult read, but it's really good.
You could also try the authors Terry Brooks and David Eddings. "Mists of Avalon" is kind of long, but I'm sure it's great (I never really finished it, I haven't had time to read much lately). The movie to it rocked "Crown Duel" is another good book. If you like books about magic or Wicca, you try the "Sweep" serires by Cate Tiernan or "Old Magic". I'm sure I could think of more if I looked through my books :/ |

Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It's about a dragon. It's the new hit a lot of people are talking about. I want to read it eventually as well. _________________ "I've got a sticky Darodo!"

yeah, Eragon is really good although I haven't finished it yet. And Tamora Pierce is good... hmm I don't read much fantasy. I really liked the Wind Singer by William Nicholson. It's an easy read and the first book is a tad boring, but the sequels are really good. |
"Crown Duel" is another good book.
I really liked that book and "Old Magic" was good, too.
If you read one of Tamora Peirce's books I would suggest one of the Diana or Alanna stories. "Dune" is one of the best books I've read, but it's more of a sci-fi/fantasy story and it's like five hundred pages. You mentioned "Lord of the Rings" and "Harry Potter", well, a quote on the back of the book reads, "I know nothing comparable to it except 'Lord of the Rings.'"-Arthur C. Clarke. Maybe I'm a little obssesed(sp?), but hey it's awsome. |

Well, It depends on your age group. By what you said, I would suggest for children and young adult books, either
-Tamora Pierce (Alanna) <- Knights and mages
-Diane Duane (So you want to be a Wizard) <- The 'Harry Potter' before there was Harry Potter
-Patricia C. Wrede (Dealing with Dragons) <- Main character Dragons, and bored princesess!
If you want something harder, I think
-Katie Forsaith (The Witches of Elianan) <- Dragons!
-Anne McCaffery (Dragonriders of Pern) <- Main Character Dragons!
-Elisabeth Kerner (Song in the Silence) <- Main Character Dragons that fall in love with humans
-Piers Anthony (Xanth) <- Dragons, and any other magical thing ever!
And if you want something adult, I like
-Sarah Douglass (The Wayfarer Redemption) <- No Dragons, but 'Angels' and fauns
-Marion Zimmer Bradley (Mists of Avalon) <- a Classic!!
-Anne Bishop (Black Jewels Trilogy) <- Dragons, and just about the coolest hottest guy ever!

Yes, I must say, the Alanna Series was my absolute favorite series by Tamora Pierce. Another good series would be... The Mediator Seires (I think it's called that...). I can't quite recall who wrote it, I'll check my book later and tell you in my next post. It's a fairly short, easy series, but I liked it all the same If you like stores about reincarnation, ghosts, ect. You could always read the Dark Secrets series by Elizabeth Chandler. If I think of any other books, I'll post them. |

I agree with DG-Sama, read DragonLance! There's a whole buncha books in that series, though....
Dealing With Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede is a really good, if an easy to read, book. _________________ 222.

HIYA! ^.^
ummm... dont know if you still need any books but ive been reading alot lately (oddly enough) only fantasy & horror tho, nothing else interests me
hmmm.. now lets see, 1 of the best fantasy's Ive read is
Faerie Wars - is ofcourse about fairys and a normall boy who gets mixed up in the middle of it - by Herbie Brennan.
the Spiderwick chronicles - are also very good fantasy books, well actually I only baught it coz im a fan of the person who illustrates it (Tony Diterlizzi) and its full of his pics ^^ - by Holly Black
Wilding - ok a very good book but not for a younger reading, it likes to graphically describe how each person dies (its full of killings, thats why i like it) and well er.. *tries to think of a nice way of putting it* likes to give every little detail in bedroom scenes its a fantasy/horror about werwolfs - by Melanie Tem.
ok thats about all Ive read of fantasy, I enjoy horrors abit more, so ofcourse have read more (point horrors are quite good).
This is something I should ask my bro, as he's the "reader" of the family <_< he's really into fantasy, he likes the choose your own adventure books (where you pick what you wanna do and turn to the page of that choice) he collects em. He's got lods of Terry Pratchett books but keeps telling me the best fantasy hes ever read is the: a song of ice and fire. Its a 4 book series, hold on *goes off to look for 1 of em* hmmm... Ive found book 3 part 1, called: a storm of swords steel and snow. He keeps telling to read em but there really thick sooooo I dont wanna 0_o;
ohhhhhh... its interesting to see what other people read The Sight? DragonLance? *goes off to ebay to look for em* thankies
*looks up* *phew* i wrote alot gomenosai

ohhhhhhhhhh I forgot to tell ya that, a song of ice and fire is written by George R.R. Martin just so you know. Also found out that book 2 is called a clash of kings and book 3 part 2 is called Blood and gold =^__^=
not sure about book 1 tho
Also, a series of unfortunate events, is a good easy to read series, ok the start is pretty boring, but once you get to book 8 it gets really interesting! you really start to feel for the characters so yeah its by Lemony Snicket if your interested
ohhhh yeah and i forgot to mention before the first fantasy i read that started getting me reading em ^_^ its: The EDGE chronicles, about air pirates. On worldbook day they gave out a free prolog to the series(called Cloud Wolf) which got me to buy the rest, its a 4 book series (altho they're thick the writing is big so its ok) including the small prologe - its by Paul Stewart & Chris Riddell
there Ive said enough already, lol soooo Id better stop writing now

hey. so...you're looking for fantasy books? that's about all i'll read. i love the feeling of jsut reading about someting so different from reality that it can be a way to escape the troubles of the world.
BTW, i was not trying to set myself up there, if for some reason you thought i was. just random blabbering.
but anyway, i suggest you read the Xanth series by Piers Anthony. the first book is called "A Spell For Chameleon." the books are loaded with dragons and castles and royality. however, be wary of the puns. there are puns (could be called literalism) everywhere you look...er...read?
for example; when i say butterfly, you think of a small colorful airborn insect, right? well, in Xanth, if someone says butterfly, they think of a similar shape, small thing with wings, but it's MADE OF butter. they spread them on bread. no, they're not life insects, just animate butter sculptures. the same holds for a butter knife. a knife made of butter.
ok. i think i've blabbered enough for now. e-mail me (tootiedur@aol.com) if you want more info.

Yeah, dragonlance is pretty good, i'd definately have to say Terry Brooks though. I think my favorite series of his was the 4 books starting with Scions of Shannara, or maybe Running with the Demon et. al., but Running was set in modern times. Still a fantasy and all, but modern times. Consider checking them out though. They're great stuff. |

I just read five books this weekend. They weren't really long, so it was pretty easy. I'm still trying to decide which one to read next. I'm not sure if I should do Fantasy, Romance, Drama, or Suspense :/ |
