First off;
No, it's not "anime", it's just "anime style".

Now that that's out of the way.
I really like this show, actually! I've watched the first (3?) episodes tonight (they were doing a mini-thon) and it's really enjoyable!

It's got a pretty original story idea, great characters, and lots of eye-candy action (without any cheezy matrix-esque sequences that we're all quite tired of...)

After watching a few episodes, it's got some DEFINITE Miyazaki influence, but not to the point of being a rip-off ^.^ nice.

The only thing that gets a bit of a twitch out of me is the oh-so-rare in the series Japanese usage (like calling the giant eel monster thing the "Unagi" or naming the monkey...bat....lemar thing "Momo" cuz it stole a peach)

But it's so rare and so subtle it in no way takes away from the show ^_^

So, enough of my little size-up.
What do you think?

I like the fighting music ( when zuko faced that general and got the upperhand it started playing)

And yes zuko is my favorite

(he would have been cooler if he didnt have that disgusting burn mark, maybe if he had like a cut along his eye instead , of course that is used on so many characters these days)

I like the burnmark.
It's not common writers will give one of the young/"attractive" characters such a ugly characteristic.

Actual scars are not pretty o.o anime does not depict them like they really are (normally). They usually get all gross and protrude rather than stay a cut.

Besides, it's one of his most important aspects ^^

But yes, Zuko is a really cool character so far, and the music is good (from what I've paid attention to so far ^^;; )

Its one of those cartoons I'd actually be willing to watch on a regular basis (I am not a big cartoon fan)
And the story line's not one Ive seen before
I enjoyed the music, and the complexity of some of the characters so early in the show is cool i.e.: the story behind Zukos burn

What are the odds of the girl with the fan, the one who ambushed Saka, showing up again?

mm...probably not for a few episodes at least. Maybe more towards the end when it's nearing the climax ^^
but yeah, that was a cool culture.

That's one of the things I've really enjoyed.
I love it when people put enough time and effort to create believable cultures in the worlds they've created ^^

Kyoshi had an OBVIOUS Japanese influence Laughing it'd be interesting to see what they based their other cultures off of ^^

It's probably the only "anime type" show I enjoy. Great animation and art direction for a series. The humor is well placed, and the characters aren't over the top or in your face. I love how the hero is the opposite of you're typical hero type. He's just so childish, yet clever. I try to watch it every week.
and the characters aren't over the top or in your face.
*cough* sounds teen titans *cough* *cough*

Yeah, that's what I usually HATE about "anime style" cartoons in American like "Totally Spies" etc

we need to make a term for "anime style" cartoons done in the Western World <_<

"Animake"? (mix between "anime" & "omake" -- japanese for "an addition" o.o I was thinking like... America's contribution to the "anime world")

"Animock"?

"Americanime"? (that's kinda long tho...)
