I think it's the "cleanliness" of CG. At once a great strength, and yet a weakness....

Maybe, I mean compared to the way we actually see things, nothing is ever in direct focus. What I mean is... we are always in motion, even when we're still. So when someone looks at us, though we may seem focused if say we're alseep, that person staring is still in motion themselves, so we are always a little blurred. Pencils tend to come out that way alot (in motion), though I've seen some CG that isn't exactly "clean" though pencils/traditional media isn't really dirty either.

It's nice to see someone else here likes hand-done art aswell :)

>Jeremy Irons? you gotta tell me a little more about that<

For myself, I love water colors and acrylic paint more than anything else because it just comes more naturally to work with. I use CG because I am a hopeless multi-tasker, and it's more convenient to pop up another window than get paint-- erm... more paint-- all over my desk. I haven't had time for a decent painting in almost five months, so CGing helps me get some of my ideas out and concentrate on what I need to be doing.

Rather than wasting three days to a week painting, I waste five hours (though I must say the hour's worth of penciling beats all). Then, again, my CG- while getting better- still sucks royally. I know the work it takes to make something actually look remotely realistic in any medium, so I appreciate any artist that can-- in any medium. I got photoshop from my journalism teacher to work on stuff for newspaper (recently edited a member of the football team onto a quidditch field, Hp broom, and catching the snitch for our April Fool's spoof story).

I know I'm just repeating what many others have said-- or disagreed with-- but for all the CGers out there- keep up the good work Wink I know all the physical mediums will keep up there end, too =)

I think that my previous posts on this thread can be a little misleading; it would look like I prefer CG without appreciating the traditional mediums, but actually, everything has to be taken into context. This is an internet website; so consequently all of the art here is presented on a computer screen. CG art may look better on this website because it was created on the computer in the first place; it never made the transition from concrete paper to digital information. (I think I mentioned this earlier). But nothing beats going to a real life art gallery where you can actually go to see the canvases or prints or whatever traditional medium was used. I appreciate both CG and real life paint. But if my art is meant to be seen over the internet, then I'll create it using CG. If it's meant to be seen on display at a gallery, then I'll create it using whatever traditional medium I choose.
Something about the CG art just looks lifeless.
Yes, some of it can appear that way, but it all depends on the artist...in the hands of a very talented artist, even the most boring of things can be made to look full of life.

I know the feeling. I suggest to anyone that would like to see some of the best and most beautiful traditional artwork to check out a Luis Royo gallery. Sorry, don't have a link on hand, gotta go to work right now, so I'll leave one tomorrow.

I'm back, and I see noone has noticed I was gone...
Here's a good Luis Royo site. It might even be the best one on the net to view his gallery.

( I have a laser printer so I'm happy ^.^) but trust me, I'd looooooovveeeee to have more than just sh*tty as ifran and MSpaint as my only photoediting choices. Ew.

I'm ON SHEEZY ART! sorry for my lack of picture posting here though.
Its actually kind of sad these days, but lots of people on the internet like to comment often, more on CGED art work then Pencil colored.
Thank you! You don't how happy it makes me feel to read something like that. And yes, it is sad, but it's true. Many people on the internet these days are bias when it comes to traditional artwork. Yet, it's pititful because traditional mediums are NOT a weak set, a lower grade of art. In fact it is the real thing.

I mean to not offend people who dabble in digital and cg coloring. In fact, I think CG coloring can take as much effort as traditional mediums. CG is one of those things.....it is EASY to learn but TOUGH to master. I know this, because I used to use alot of CG before.

if it would make you feel better, read this rant on a DA journal, it is so true- http://spara.deviantart.com/journal/3321635/

I think I said that on this thread several times already.

But yes, unless you have high quality glossy photo paper and a good printer, any CG art will look terrible when printed out.

Good point. The computer gives a more proffesional look most of the time but the pencils are (In my poinion) easier to use for things like the blending. However, it really depends how skilled you are on Computer programs like Photoshop. Also it takes a while to get the hang of computer colouring so I tend to stick to Pencils.

As personal preference, I'll always be more impressed with traditional art. Don't get me wrong; tons of talent and time are required for both a good CG or traditional piece, but I think CGing has a bit more luxury. With traditonal, you don't get an undo key, you get and eraser of some means (sometimes even not!) that leaves marks. You don't get layers, filters, clone tools, healing brushes, menu options, etc...

To me, it's far more impressive if you can create such things by hand.

Yeah I agree with you. Though I think that just as much time and effort is put into CGing things. Like it takes quite a few times to get it right ... well thats what most people tell me.

you'll never get printer ink that can withstand light and weather for hundreds of years, it's chemically impossible. Traditional art lasts longer, digital art might get lost through time as the image formats are constantly changing.
