YuGiOh was just completely killed by dubbing because of 4kids..
but there are also a lot of little jokes that only make sense in the japanese versions; i.e. in an episode of Yami No Matsuei:
In the Japanese version, a character named Tsuzuki is trying to get onto a VIP part of a ship (or something close to that). the guards are bothering him, but he can't speak English and they can't speak Japanese. so it results in him shouting at them "SPEAK JAPANESE!!"
but in the dubbed, English version, he shouts "I HAVE NO MONEY" (if memory serves) TT_TT. |

HAHA! The only anime I've ever seen that might not be as bad as others is Gundam Wing. The voices fit their personalities pretty well. I agree, Yugioh WAS ruined by damn dubbing. So was Inuyasha...and Trigun...and N.G. Evangelion...OH GOD! WHAT HAVE AMERICANS DONE TO ANIME!? *cough. Sorry 'bout that... _________________ Ah, so you've decided to read my signature. I heard that they couldn't even show the first sega of Yu-Gi-O because they couldn't edit it enough for the little people. Most anime is not meant for 7 year olds. I don't know how they are going to edit Yu Yu Hakusho when they talk about Rasen (sp?) having sex with an ancestor. They might have problems editing out such an important part of the story. It rather interesting to watch something uncut and then watch it cut. 'Bastard' become 'monster' |

Gah, as far as I'm concerned, I've found at least one problem with every, single, dubbed anime series or show I've watched. |

Evil English dubbing has completely ruined Hentai!
Seriously though, the worst dubbed anime I've seen was Rurouni Kenshin. How fricken difficult is it to say "Kenhsin" or "Kaoru" anyway? Also, WTF is it that they dub Kenshin saying lines like 'I'm going to KILL you' when facing a low class opponent.
Kenshin no longer says those lines, except when he's in his Hitokiri mode (which only happened 3x in the series).
I agree, Yugioh WAS ruined by damn dubbing. So was Inuyasha...
4Kids sucks. Inuyasha on the other hand...
Well, the Inuyasha I've seen is dubbed by Canadian voice actors (in Vancouver... that's where I am! XD) and I've spoken to Koga's VA, Scott McNeil (just for the record, he likes chocolate chip cookies. XD), and he says that he's seen the script and the translations from the japanese. He says that they try really hard to translate the script accurately and make it fit the time while staying true to the japanese.
In fact, the first time I watched the dub version of Inuyasha, I thought that it was really well done. o.o;
A lot of it wasn't editted, either. Naked demon-chick in the first episode? Still naked when I saw her. ^^;

XD I've spoken to a bunch of them because there's a recording studio for this kind of stuff somewhere around here, so a lot of VAs live in the area.
Also, there's always guest panels at conventions where they invite voice actors. ^^ That's a good time to talk to them (and get autographs while you're there! I had Scott sign a picture of Duo [Gundam Wing] before. X3). They're completely approachable, and most of them like good humour and doing dorky stuff. X3 (Scott had a staring contest with my plush Kumagorou last year! )
So, if you're ever at a convention, make sure you check out the guest panels. ^^ _________________

This is before a lot of people's time (mine too, for that matter), but Robotech/Macross is the classic example of Americans butchering an anime. They took three different shows (THREE!) and slapped various episodes together to make one show. I've seen a few of these episodes, and the dubbing was so bad that I nearly cried.
And, of course, there's Speed Racer's infamous "OhmygoshSpeedyou'renevergoingtomakeitintimeyoucan'tbeatthatguywhatarewegoingtodo?!!!!" dialogue. Yes, those were the days... |

Well, I met a couple of the Japanese voice actors for Kodocha, Inuyasha, and DNAngel over while I was in Japan. I checked out the script too. I had a hell of a time just trying to translate one page. 1 hour per paragraph! |

I'm afraid to see what Naruto is gonna turn out to be like! I mean come on! They better not make Haku a girl, so what if he looks like one but thats no reason to change it. Like in Sailor moon! I forget which characters they changed but some of them were really guys in Japan and were now girls in the stupid dub!
NOTE: I don't like Sailor Moon anymore, I stopped liking it a long time ago. LOL |

THEY BETTER NOT MAKE HAKU A GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!
>>; No one messes with one of MY favorite mangas and gets a way with it. I WILL SERIOUSLY WRITE A FRICKIN' LONG LETTER TO THEM PEEPS!!!!
Anyway back on topic.
yeah I hate some dubbing, but if you get the uncut-unedited version of the animes the dubbing is alright.
Yeah about yugioh's first season, there was a little incident with a porno video... so yeah the little kids... that's a no.
I can't stand it either when they baby up s**t like that.
Even inuyasha is babyed on Adult Swim. Kagome deff. curses more than what they "allow" her to curse.
Most animes are completely made for teen or older adults, but the networks want something edge to sell to the smaller kids s they rip our stuff like it's a wad of toilet paper and smeer their s**t all over it.
Yeah I do have a few of those dubbed up junk of robotech. Really annoying.
I hate the music too..

*sigh* dubbing is bad, but i've seen decent dubbings. For FMA for example, they did pretty well. And the music absolutely rocks. |

The only show I have ever seen where the voices in the dubbing are an improvement, is Hellsing. It was supposed to take place in Britain, so they gave most of the charecters accents. They even gave Andersong an Irish accent. _________________

Some dubbing sux, what am i saying? all dubbing sux. Some of the things they change make you want to cry. How are they going to edit the rest of yu yu? I mean in the one eps. they *spoiler* talk about Raisen(sp?) and some other chick having sex. They show some very few pictures too. It's not really a child thing yet its so vital to the story line. |

I was surprised in that episode of YYH (I think it was Dark Indulgence) when they aired it (|\/|[_](|-|0 6|24(145 to Haruko for letting me borrow the DVD! ). They actually showed more of that torture scene than I thought they were going to air. Hell, I thought they were going to find some way to just cut the whole damn thing out.

I'm thinking that some of the animes that are cut for night view (ex. adult swim) are not slaughter(sp?) as bad as the ones cut for day time view. Thats' probably why Trigun wasn't totally destroyed. Anime is not was not made for childern of seven. ^0^ Is it because it's a cartoon? |

I really don't care about whether the anime I watch is dubbed or not. Listening to crappy childish voices can be just as bad as listening to some screechy high pitched Japanese voice. (Japanese Goku in DBZ, his voice should have broken a long time ago.) Next to bugger all anime gets shown here on TV, and I'm not going to spend all my time looking for fansubs/bootlegs/sh*tty copies because of the low standards of some dubs,and let's face it, there's been a lot of chopped and recycled steaming piles of crap that some people *cough4kidscough* try to pass off as anime. Anime is anime, and I'll watch it regardless of what people say about how bad dubbing is. _________________ "You know what? Random information: In Japanese voice acting, the majority child characters, no matter the gender, are played by female voice actors. That's because in Japan, most children have higher pitched voices than in the west, or like to be viewed as such. That's where the radical differences are; in Japan, people like to be viewed as young and carefree, whereas, over here in our western culture, children like to be viewed as "mature", and therefore quite a bit more cynical than over there in Japan.
That's why a lot of people here can't understand why children in japanese voice acting have such high pitch "cute" voices. _________________
