Easy question - do you throw away pieces you aren't happy with, or keep them?

I tend to hoard paintings, although I will paint on the back of a dodgy piece Smile I like seeing if I've made progress in the year I've been painting, and I like seeing the trends I've gone through of painting certain things and using certain mediums.

Drawing, however, I often chuck because most of them are crappy doodles.

Hows about you guys?

I don't paint much, but I threw away all of my old drawings. My mom, however, saves them without telling me... <_<

That depends. If a drawing has a serious mistake that I need to correct but isn't too crappy to look at, I'll keep it. However, the ugly, embarassing drawings always goes.

i just suck at painting...except for watercolor. I got skill in that...but I don't have very many anyway xD

Drawings I don't like meet the garbage rather quickly. Or torn out and tucked away in a forgotten sketch book, bottom of a drawer, or under some books where it'll never be seen by human eyes again. Most of my gallery is in a red binder...somewhere...where I don't have to look at it.

Around my house, we don't throw paper garbage away . . . we burn it in the fireplace.

Me, I can usually tell how the drawing is going to end up just by how I initially sketch it out. If I sketch it out badly, I erase and try again. Thus, I almost never end up with a crappy drawing.

However, on the times when I do, I simply ignore it (not uploading it to FAC or anything) and proceed with a new drawing. Sometimes I might try again with the same idea, but usually I'll just do something else and try to forget that it turned out so badly.

Well, when I make mistakes I usually save them and pop 'em in a box or something to save for later and see if I can correct it when i'm in the mood. If I cant correct it, I crumple it up in my fist and dump it in the trash, and then I scream at the trash can and break the pencil that i used to draw the pic.... WTF? I just noticed how crazy i am....

I usually biff 'em. Sometimes I might save a very old drawing that now looks crappy to me, so I can see how I progressed, but if it's just a regular drawing that I don't like, it lands in the garbage can.

If I start something, the minute I think it's going wrong I throw it out. No idea why, I guess I just hate to look at past mistakes.

I used to throw away all drawing, but my parents didn't like that. I draw only in sketchbooks so nothing is thrown away unless I really want it to go. Flip through a book, you see all drawing good and bad.

But I don't ussually consider anything bad or good, I just draw and that's it.

Like how I burned my two highschool sketchbooks? Saved a few pages from each, but the rest . . . gone. But it's not a big or sentimental loss to me.
it will be a nice little surprise to see how it all began.
its also good for looking back to see how deep rooted mistakes can be changed. I have a friend now looking over her work to see where a kind-of lefthanded tilt (its the same with righties too in writting) came from to try to change it, and shes a righty. I keep most of mine, but I scan them and just keep them on my hard drive with a back-up disk. not as much clutter that way.

I have a habit in my art to keep enlarging bustlines, so I go back to my college day pics of my old ToniBo (Aphroditie at the time) and get perspective of real life 40d's again. it helps me to keep old crap around, even mistakes. if we forget our mistakes, we are bound to repeat them.

Why must everyone consider things in terms of Mistakes or Masterpeices? Are there not few rules to art? Is it merley a way of expressing oneself, of jotting your personality on paper and canvas!! There is no such thing as right and wrong. It's only in Math that you must worry in terms of Black and White.

ALL art is a matter of personal opinion! One man's masterpiece is another man's turd. DO NOT throw work away! It's usful to progress through out you style, to look back is to bring back memories! When looking at an acient work you will remember what inspired you, and possible, inspire again! NEVER rid of work. Hide it, stash it away, hide under a floor board. You won't regret it.

I do what I like to call "selective throwing away" if I know it isn't good or I think I know it isn't good then I burn it away. If I think it's good I horde it and then later on if I think it's bad I'll burn it too.

See I learn from example, which is why i mostly surf around on this site. Because like for example, I can't really do shoes that well, but after studying some of Dg-sama's shoes (slightly getting inspired by one or two of her pics...) I started being able to do them. well, I do my own designs, but basicly I look at the shape of the shoes and go on from there. That's how a learned to do hands. Normally I just hid them or whatever.

So I do throw away my mistakes, but I learn from them....

:)

all good.

I have a bad memory, so if I throw away duds, I forget about them.
