You know those mental images that you don't want to picture but it happens anyway and you're completely disgusted for life? I think that just happened. Definetly something I did not need to hear (or imagine.)

I do have a picture somewhere of him still mooning the audience a few years ago. And people thought it was shocking in 1989! _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

I remember that pic. I thought it was pretty funny.
But for the sake of diversity in this forum, can we talk about someone else besides Axl? Like maybe Duff? I was talking to a friend of mine today (the conversation wasn't about Gn'R though) and she told met that the way to find a bass player in any band was by the nose. She believes that the bass players always have the biggest nose. I tried to use Duff as an example but I couldn't remember how big Duff's nose is so I couldn't say it wasn't true because for all I knew, Duff's nose could've been the biggest nose. So I used Nikki Sixx as an example instead.
Stupid conversation, I know but when you're metaphorically drunk on cough medicine the weirdest conversations arise.
So who do you think has the biggest nose in Gn'R? _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

Wow, now there's a random topic.
I'd get a side by side of pictures for a comparison, but I'm leaving to go to dinner in...oh, right about now.
But it's not Duff, almost surely. By memory, I'd say Izzy...
Ah man, let's not let this turn into a string of bad music jokes.
"What do you call a guy that hangs out with musicians? A drummer"
"What do you do when a drummer knocks on the door? Pay for the pizza"

One thing I really like about GnR is Slashes fashion statement (the whole huge hat overlaping hair on forehead thing that rocks)
One thing to keep in mind though if slash face is completly covered (almost at any rate) wouldnt that mean he could play the guitar blindfolded? |

A lot of people could. For the most part, staring at what you're doing isn't a very enthralling performance. A glance down every now and then to double check is about all, otherwise a lot is by feel/instinct. Same goes for just about any instrument. Once you get a certain level of experience, your fingers know where to go without looking. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Ironic that you mentioned those jokes because I told these same ones to my brother before I read this. Only instead I used Izzy Stradlin'.
"What do you call the guy that hangs out with Guns n' Roses? Izzy Stradlin'.
"What do you do when Izzy Stradlin' knocks on the door? Pay for the pizza."
Very mean, I know and not true but we were making jokes about how Izzy is so overshadowed by Slash that its hard to remember that he's there. Plus he asked me why Dave Kushner is always hanging around Velvet Revolver. He was pretty shocked to find out that the bald guy was a part of the band (I like to fondly call him "The Next Izzy Stradlin'.")
I'm going to be taking up the guitar next year. I can't wait. I was nervous asking my parents but they were all up for the idea of it. Especially my dad. I mean how many parents actually offer to buy you an electric guitar for Christmas? (He knows someone who can get them real cheap. Les Pauls too. Just like Slash's. )

You have to be able to do that with any band. Especially with Guns n' Roses because their shows were all about energy. I think its safe to say that almost all of the performances of Paradice City involved Slash running up and down the stage while headbanging. Add that with the kick ass solos and you got one skilled guitarist.

Reviving this to say I've got a bootleg of a concert where Guns performs Honky Tonk Woman with Mike Monroe and Ron Wood. Axl kind of dominates since the audio quality is that of a bootleg, but it's still kinda cool.
Nowhere to host it, but leave an email and I'll hook up anyone who wants to hear it. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Thread too long...too lazy to read 19 pages...so don't know if this has been talked about...
...What was the deal with Axle and that other guy? Bret Micheals or someone from Poison or something? He wanted to kick Axles ass and called him out but Axle didn't.

It wasn't Bret, it was Vince from Motley Crue. I think that's what you're talking about, anyway. Gn'R did have issues with Poison, but not Bret specifically.
The thing with Vince is a ways back in the thread, but I'll recount it for you anyway ('cause I'm nice like that ).
Izzy Stradlin' was in a club with Vince's wife at the time, Sharise. Sharise claims that Izzy kicked her, but there's no definite description of what happened, whether she deserved it, made it up, or if Izzy was just being a drunk asshole. Either way, she told Vince what happened, and Vince got pissed. At the '89 VMA's, Gn'R performed with Tom Petty. As they were coming off stage, Vince sucker punched Izzy, and Axl came to his defense. Axl went after Vince, and Vince stood his ground until Axl backed off.
After that, a series of messages were put out through the media offering to have a go at each other. One of them would name the place, but Axl would never show. It got to the point Vince would send someone else, since Axl was never there anyway. Vince claims the offer is still good to kick his ass whenever Axl is ready to not chicken out.
Vince keeps adding on to the story, like his most recent claim that Sharise was pregnant at the time. Skylar wasn't born until two years later, so it's either a mystery pregnancy or a really long one.
So yeah, basically Axl stuck his nose in a conflict that really didn't concern him, even though he was coming to a more passive bandmate's defense, and then ran away from any real conflict. There's some other amusing stories about Gn'R and Motley. They used to be friends before Axl lost his mind. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Thats pretty bitchin'. So what era is it from? Appetite? UYI? Or when right before Axl went completely off the bandwagon (Spaghettii Incident?) Either way, it sounds like a great way to kill an hour.
I have two bootleg casettes. Onc is an accoustic performance and unfortunetly, Axl didn't sound good in it. Not his best night. He played great in the November Rain solo piano version but everything else was either really off-key or it was so quiet that I couldn't hear him even with the stereo turned up all the way (I can't even give my opinion on his two performances of Patience because I couldn't hear it both times.) Have a One in a Million bootleg which sounds great. Axl mumbles something about Motley around the end of the song but I don't remember. I'll have to listen to it again tonight.
And just because I have to listen to this. My e-mail is Silverwolf482@wmconnect.com. Thanks fallen! _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

Axl was always hot or cold. Energetic performer, not a reliable voice. Which is why I always have to laugh when people give him such shit for the VMA show or a couple of the more recent bootlegs floating around. He always sounded like that, more or less. There's just as many bootlegs where he sounds pretty damn good. Nowhere near his prime, but who is?
I don't know the exact date of this performance, but I have to guess it's around the UYI or Lies era. Axl mentions both Izzy and Gilby, can't tell exactly what he's referring to without seeing the show. Mike and Axl should have performed together more often. I love their voices together. Could probably look up the year on one of the really detailed timelines out there...
Mike Monroe, best thing to come out of Finland since...well, I don't know any other good things that came from Finland. :D
Anyway, the file is sent. Might have sent twice, one without the file attached.
Random Axl appearances with other popular celebrities. Today I bring you another of Steve... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

My two favorite frontman... Was there ever a better combination? Probably. I would've liked to have heard Axl sing with Vince or better yet someone with a deeper voice. I can't think of any right now. Oh yeah, Mick's voice is around there so he counts.
Just got the bootleg five seconds ago. Its really bitchin'. Definetly one of Axl's better performances. Thanks again for sending it.
I just realized that its funny you put up a pic with Axl and Steve Tyler because before I saw the picture I was just thinking about how Steve Tyler has the same problem as Axl. My uncle saw him five times and three out of those five shows were amazing where Steve just hit every note and made the stage all his own. And the other two times he sounded like nails on a chalkboard. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

Mike's voice can get really low. But in a soft way, same as Axl's does. If he sang "harder" in that song, it'd be higher. I'm trying to think of all the duet bootlegs I have, if any of them are deeper. Tom Petty's voice isn't very deep. Hmm...
Axl singing with Vince would be funny. They've got similar tones, only Axl is rougher. Could be some pretty awesome harmony with both of them hitting the high notes. The ego trips, man... Vince used to help Axl when he was new in town and Vince was Mr. Bigshot at the time. Would give him advice when his throat was sore n' all that. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

That reminds me (and I should've remembered when you retold the Axl v.s Vince story.) What song did GnR play when they performed with Tom Petty at the VMAs? Just out of curiosity and its been bugging me for the last fifteen minutes.
Vince used to help Axl when he was new in town and Vince was Mr. Bigshot at the time. Would give him advice when his throat was sore n' all that.
Thats actually really nice of Vince. Shame they hate each other now. Or is it just Axl who's holding a grudge against Vince that probably isn't even there? Oh well, gotta love Sunset Strip. B)
:EDIT:
I have way too much Motley on my mind right now. I've been thinking that Mike Monroe was really Mick Monroe. Way too much studying Mick Mars's face for portrait drawing projects. I'm surprised you didn't catch me on that one. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |

Free Fallin'. Not bad, Axl's voice is well suited to the "Freeeee" part.
A lot of people call Mike "mick". He doesn't go by it, but I've gotten used to it. Like people referring to "Steve" (any steve) as Stevie. I automatically think Stevie Rachelle, but people refer to Steve Adler, Steve Stevens, Steve "Sex" Summers, Steve Tyler, etc. as Stevie...
Or is it just Axl who's holding a grudge against Vince that probably isn't even there?
I'm sure it's still a mutual thing. People keep bringing it up, and Vince claims the offer is still good. I don't think Axl has many friends left, let alone Vince of all people. Most of the music industry hates him, if not personally than for his attitude and how he treats people. (And if you want proof, browse the Metal Sludge 20 questions interviews and see how many rockers have said Axl is the one who most deserves a smack in the mouth ) _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Stevie Tyler? Stevie Alder? Stevie Stevens? It just doesn't roll off the tongue for me but thats just me I guess.
I almost feel sorry for Axl. This is just living proof of the bigger they are, the harder they fall. And Axl fell hard, crashed hard, he's fallen again, and he's still falling today.
I think Steve Tyler was among those people who said he needed a smack in the mouth. It wasn't in those words but he did hint that Axl was being an ass for skipping his concerts and dissapointing his fans. Still a pretty bad burn though especially from one of the greatest rock legends. _________________ Vaccum cleaners may look fun, but are deadly sex toys. as are certain vegetables like, terri schiavo -Powtaz |
