I got a new laptop for Christmas, and over the past few months I've been expereincing some "heat related shutdowns". The computer does not have adequate (sp?) airflow, and the system opts to shut down to cool itself off.

The major problem hasn't been so much making room for the air to flow (I've added lifters to the corners of the thing to give the underside fan more room), but that the fan seems underpowered. Being a laptop, I'm sure that the fan is a low-energy model, and not up to par with a tower fan, but is there any way to put a higher rpm fan in there to solve the heat problem?

Are there any other ways to solve it, besides a new fan?

Thanks!

How do you know that it is heat causing the shutdown? What company did you buy this from? If it's a good comapny and you still have warranty, they'll fix the problem for you.

It's a Dell, and it is overheating. There's a screen that comes up, saying that the system is too hot and that it's initiating a hibernation to cool off.
