WELL, who here remembers the days of yore; where games were king and sidescrollers were the things spoke of in legends?

I'll tell ya whom, Logan, THAT'S whom! They've been around for years, and with the onslaught of fully 3-D....we tend to forget our genesis; what started it all. There are few who still remember....

The modern day classics, like Alien Hominid, or the recently released or resurgence of Contra, dubbed Neo Contra....Neo, meaning New.....I still prefer Contra Shattered Soldier, personally.

SO, let us nostalgic gamers come here and talk about the NEW side-scrollers. Your Hominids, your contras, and even your metalized Slugs......and of course, VIEWTIFUL JOE!!

Don't you wanna remember?

YES LOGAN, I want to...

And with the new release of Metal Slug 4 and 5, I will soon relive those precious moments....It's a bitter shame that Metal Slug is planning on going 3rd Dimensional....but all trends tend to evolve. It's understanable, and I accept it as such.

Alien Hominid is quite the welcome to the genre that is almost dead. It's simply beautiful....or should I say, VIEWtiful.....

Well, maybe not. That's another game in and of itself....So Logan, what else do you like about the genre?

YEAH, I'm rather fond of Viewtiful Joe, too!

It's an awsome blend of 2-D and 3-D technology that pleases the eyes. It alone could be the leading factor to the rebirth of Sidescrollers. But Logan, does Paper Mario count as a sidescroller? Or is it just another ploy to shove Mario down our throats?

I do believe Logan was talking to ME! THANK YOU....

So anyway, yeah you can consider Paper Mario a sidescroller.....but it's more of an RPG-esqe game than anything else. As far as side-scrollers go, that (if to be considered one) is abysmal.

....what are your thoughts on Alien Homind. I think it brings alot to the table, in this New Age of 2-D gaming.

Check the date/times of the posts before making a comment like that.

So, side-scroller versus 3D, or 2D versus 3D... my opinions I'll give later.

I'm Garth Logan, and I'll be DAMN if a topic I want to talk about dies as if I said nothing. So I say an ultimate SCREW YOU guys, cause I'm addressing Logan and him ONLY! ....the nerve of these guys...I have to answer my own questions to actually...nah, whatever I SAY!!

Yeah Logan, Alien Hominid is quite the decent 2-D video gaMe. It may be very short, but what side-scroller isn't? But like most side-scrollers, it's packed up the WAH-ZOO with extras....how many of the various hats have YOU collected, Logan?

Logan, you were acting as if this thread had a shorter shelf life than a french fry.

Anyway, how many D's are there in a game? Allow me to define some terms my way:

2D. The game has two axes of movement, but one of them is "gravity", so aside from jumping, climbing ladders, etc., all you can really do is move right and left.
Examples - ANY classic sidescroller (Mario, Metroid, Contra, Mega Man, Sonic, etc.). Even if the game uses 3D rendering (e.g. Strider 2, Blowout, etc.), if there are only two axes of movement and one of them is gravity, the gameplay is still 2D.

3D. The game has two axes of movement, not including "gravity". Gravity is either not present, or aligns to a separate 3rd axis. Games DO NOT have to utilize polygonal 3D-rendering in order to be considered 3D, they just have to give you two axes of movement without making one of them the "gravity" axis. Isometric displays also count, because the two axes are diagonal (and where gravity is involved, gravity is up/down).
Examples - King's Quest, The Legend of Zelda, Q-Bert, Gauntlet, Double Dragon, Landstalker, Final Fantasy, etc.

OH, I'M SOOO SORRY.....I didn't know that if I were to post in my own topic the next day it would be considered as spam...I mean, I am on topic, aren't I? It's not like I made the post a minute after the first one; IT WAS THE NEXT DAMN DAY!!!

WELL I'm fed up with this; Might as well move this topic to the Spam section, then. Since I can't these bitch-ass nerds to bite, I'm gonna continue to post the answers to my own DAMN question.

JUST MOVE THE TOPIC!!!

....and yeah Logan; the amount of hats I have gained is uncountable. Do you know how many hats they have available on Alien Hominid?

Logan, you have split personality or something? You're weird.

What are you, stupid?

Logan isn't tlaking about the lame-ass original, he's talking about the console version, which is BOSS!

...AND NO, I don't know the amount of hats they have on ALien Hominid. But I do know this, Neo Contra is a disgrace to the Neo-Side scrollers; it takes the entire Contra series, shits on it, wipes it on a brick, and hurls that very brick at a shattered window.......into a room of s**t.

Yeah, it's that damn bad. But what do YOU think of the next-gen Contra games, Logan?

I would say MegaMan Network Transmission. Its a 3d sidescroller for the game cube. (Why is Capcom afraid of MegaMan going 3D again???)
