Gcbaby, this is your second warning for attaching images to your posts that aren't needed.

And GC are very much trying to be "nu-punk". Their image is the complete stereotype of the angst-ridden teenybopper. There's nothing original about their look or music, it's all DIY "punk".

I hear the name Good Charlotte alot, but I can't put a song with it. What's a song from them I might have heard?

I'm dumb, I thought Greenday, former Blink 182, and Sum41 were all punk. LOL, and didn't someone call Avril Lavigne 'punk rock' and piss her off?

aside from the bands I just mentioned, only Beastie Boys are the only punk I like.
So sue me, I like Beastie Boys, so what. They made a song about girls, so the're cool. Leave me alone.

"Lifestyles of the rich and the famous". Irony of the century right there. And I think that shitty suicide song was called "Hold On" or something like that (look up "Don't Close Your Eyes" by KIX for the same song done 15 years earlier and 15 times better Rolling eyes ) Oh, and "The Anthem", which anything that has to say it's the anthem....well, needs to shut up.

And the Beastie Boys aren't punk, either. Wink Punk is the English and mostly New York scene of the 70s. Sex Pistols, New York Dolls, Ramones, Generation X, etc. Combination of loud, fast, grating "music" with non-melodic vocals to rebel against the prepackaged, squeaky clean radio music of the time. Now what people call "punk" is what they were rebelling against. . . . . Punk died in the 70s when the scene killed itself. Too many sheep copying their favorite band's look, which is exactly what they didn't want to happen. And as soon as people try to cash in on it and it becomes commercial, punk is dead. Which is exactly what happened.

Fallen I think I should put that in my siggy...

R.I.P. Punk music.

anyway back on topic.

I hope everyone realizes that they will probably die out from now on. I think their second CD was the best that they could ever come out with. and by the best, I don't mean it was very good....

at all..

(see previous post for referance)

you right fallen, boyband with ink. How long did...um... Nsyci and Backstreetboys last? not very long.

It's better off dead. If anyone wants a great look at the punk scene, for better or worse, John Lydon's book called Rotten is awesome (he's Johnny Rotten, by the way). Great commentary on everything good about it and everything wrong with it, like people showing up to gigs dressed like the band when the point was to dress how you want to dress. Or people trying to make the songs more radio friendly when the point was to be the opposite. Now "punk" is everything that it wasn't. It's not bouncy powerchords and angsty lyrics. . . . .

And nothing is more irritating than either fans who "love punk! OMG good charlotte and avril!!!!" or bands who claim to be "punk rock". Just let the label fuckin' die.

And for all those people who "love punk", it's not a flattering term, by the way. It means a young guy who is raped in prison, applied to the subculture by Caroline Coon back in the day. Rolling eyes

Yes... the new "pop-punk" trend is actually rather amusing seeing as how punk was invented as an alternative to pop originally.

They're okay, but don't ask me to like them. I can survive when I listen to their music and I only like a few of their songs. Their latest CD wasn't all that great, neither was their first. But the Young and The Hopeless was Pretty good.

Rainer Maria is an awesome little trio. naming a band after an awesome poet is interesting.

anyways i think most can agree that gc is less original than most. i mean lets face most things arent original unless you want to make something thats bordering on just plain noise...(which actually has been done) and i also think we can admit that there are worse things. thats basically the gist of it. and all those who know a little more about music, give those who dont a little break. they're not as fortunate to have stumbled upon or grown up with certian genres so they havent been exposed to everything.

All new sound, very difficult. New combination of sounds or new approach to an already established sound, not that difficult.

There's countless ways for a group to stand out from others. GC are plastic and generic in every way possible.

But sure, there's worse things out there. Always is. Doesn't make them any better. Razz

Good Charlotte..

ok they look sort of cool..but their music is just plain and trashy pop. They can't create original music worth crap.

I guess that is why they look cool....thats the only way they get so much money and exposure- it's the image that gives them away. I blame this on the lame-ass media and MTV for coming up with this money-making scam.

All that's missing are the Hot Topic shopping bags. I don't even think they're that good looking. Typical mallrat nu-punks who hang around the "cool" stores that are owned by GAP, but they won't admit it. Plus that one twin ripped off Alice Cooper's makeup, with slight changes.

Except the skinny one. Billy, or whatever the fuck his name is. It's a shame something kinda pretty is in such a shitty band.

hot topic is overpriced. and let me ask one vital question: what the hell is the point in selling anarchy shoelaces....and why in God's name would you buy a pair of chuck taylors for over 30 bucks? you are getting ripped off and are paying to look like an ignorant fool basically

Because if it's from "Hot Topic" it must be cool! Even though it's owned by GAP, and a good portion of the kids who shop there are the ones who bitch about "preps" buying all their clothes at GAP, Old Navy, all the same stores that own Hot Topic. Rolling eyes

DISCLAIMER: Not everyone who shops at Hot Topic does so to be "cool". If you like the clothes, GOOD FOR YOU, ASSHOLE! No one cares. You're being ripped off, regardless. Overpriced shit.

Now then, enough of that. My hatred for Hot Topic runs deep, but I'm sure there's enough people here who go there just because they like the look that I don't want to deal with trying to explain I'm not talking to them.

I once saw a pair of black bondage pants that sold for 70 dollars at Hot Topic..it's amazing people would buy that O.o;;

Actually Hot Topic has some cool band shirts there you can't buy anywhere else in a mall and in most stores (they sell Children of Bodom, Blind Guardian and Iced Earth shirts there in SMALL sizes! yaaaay!!!). They even had a leather Iron Maiden watch there once, that was cool.

I just go there for some of the band shirts they sell. it's pretty cool because the only way I get my band shirts is through the internet, and official sites never sell small sized shirts for some reason like what Hot Topic does..>__<

Yeah, reproductions of the real ones mostly. I dunno, I've never gotten any from there even though they have several of bands I like (Poison, Ratt, Guns, whatnot). They sell them to be trendy, and I refuse to support the trend of wearing "vintage" shirts because they're cool and not because you actually like the band. <_< I'm sure a lot of people buy them because they like the group, but so many wear them because they're "cool" (especially big names like AC/DC or "cool" groups like the Sex Pistols). It's unbelievable how many people I see in them who don't even know who the people are on their shirt.

$6 Ebay shirts from the actual tours are cheaper anyway. Meh. Cheap is good.

WHAT? SO MANY GC HATERS? *CRIES*

GC is a really good band. And people have different tastes. They're not TRYING to look like posers, they're just doing they're job. Remember, they're main purpose isn't to stand on top of their heads and sing perfectly.
GC is a really good band.
No they're not. Consult the multiple pages of this thread for reasons.
And people have different tastes.
This is true, but we're saying they are not a good band talent and skill-wise. Not simply that we don't like them. Liking a band does not make them "good". You may enjoy them, but they still suck ass. I like a lot of old bands that have always sucked ass. Just because I like them doesn't make them good, and that's ok. Recognizing what they are makes someone a well informed fan that isn't blinding jumping a bandwagon.
They're not TRYING to look like posers, they're just doing they're job.
Exactly the problem. Their job is to look like poseurs. They're pulling in the money for whatever label they're signed to, and in return they serve as the "rebel teen group" to appeal to all the kids that don't buy into the pop princesses. It's ALL marketing. They're a formula, plain and simple, and they get paid to do it. Their songs musically suck, instrumentally and lyrically, and their image is contrived, popularity-generated conformity. There's nothing to verify them.
Remember, they're main purpose isn't to stand on top of their heads and sing perfectly.
A pity, 'cause it would help their originality. Razz

Good Charlotte to me represents the new age of so called punk (more like pop) they are a massive dissapointment, and annoy the hell outta me.
