Classic Rock
Scorpions, AC/DC, Black Sabath, The Who, Ozzy's older stuff, any of that
I friggin' can't stand rap. At least today's rap, anyhow. The older stuff wasn't annoying and stupid like today's stuff. _________________ |
evanescence is mainstream hardrock
as far as how the music sounds, they're not even 'hard' rock. More like goth (note I didn't say 'goth-metal' that time <_< )or pop rock...
I friggin' can't stand rap. At least today's rap, anyhow. The older stuff wasn't annoying and stupid like today's stuff.
yeah, todays rap all pretty much sounds the same. annoying too, those predictable, repetitive-beats and the whole 'bling bling' rapper image is just terrible >_<

Pop punk is a f**king oxymoron. God, it's people like you that give Avril fans a bad name. And the sad thing is there are only a few people like that. I'm an Avril fan, and I'm a member of Bandaids, and if you read the posts there you will see that 99.9% of her fans KNOW that she is pop rock. _________________ |
metal all types except emo screamo stuff
you should be more open-minded, your missing some good riffs just because the lyrics are deeper. either that or you dont grasp the meaning of sceamo/emo, all it is is short for 'emotional'. it doesnt have to be romantic.
look up '94 hours' by As I Lay Dying. you'll have an awesome time i guarentee it. |

Emo.
I'm all for lyrics that go beyond the superficial, but so much Emo is just paintfully lame bad poetry. Not all, just a lot. If I wrote meaningful lyrics, I'd be forced to repeatedly stab anyone that tried to call my band Emo.
I don't really get the point of that, anyway. 99.999% of lyrics are "emotional". Emotion is in everything. Lyrics as cheesy as Poison's "Nothin' But a Good Time" are emotional, it's a whole lotta good time fun. That's an emotion. Unless by emo, they only mean whiny bitchass emotion. And that sucks. I just don't like the idea of labeling what kind of songs are written. Sound and style, fine, limiting subject matter is just too constricting. "Ooh, track nine is really sad and deep! Just like tracks 1-8 ^_^ " _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Listen listen! I can be "emo".
My significant other just dumped me. My parents are mean. I have to do chores. Life sucks. I think I'll go cut myself now. _________________ |

i agree which is why in my opinion emo is just short for emotional and the word was invented to put a tag on indie bands, which unfortunaely got targeted by mtv and the meaning of the word got turned into 'emo is anything that sounds like dashboard confessional' egh.
and besides, perhaps i should have mentioned that most indie bands that are labeled screamo or emo are hybrids. which is why youre correct fallen when you say nothing can be just emo because that can be everything. for example dead poetic is descirbed as screamo/rock/alternative. i hate labels, but you gotta remember if you hate them you shouldnt base a band on what their labeled by because then you'll just sound ill informed because most label descriptions are warped by marketing schemes of the mainstream.
anyways heres a dead poetic song. it's labeled screamo, but its not about a break-up or about being in love....and if thats how you read it your missing the point.
"The Dreamclub Murders"
So after all, you needed more than a death-threat fall.
You needed more, and I let you fall.
Into the coffin with your floor-dropped jaw.
And I remember you aspiration, your dream to fit in.
But it's gone, and they're here.
So let's kill these felons now.
But I remember you, you'll go, you'll find a way back home.
But I remember you, when you stand there,
You stand with your eyes closed.
And I feel, tonight, that I let you die.
But you could have lived forever, it took smiles to keep you alive.
But heroes die, and so did mine.
But you go, and I stay, will it keep you at peace now.
But I remember you, you'll go, you'll find a way back home.
But I remember you, when you stand there,
You stand with your eyes closed.
And I'll dig you out, and I'll sit you up.
For the fools to find you, the fools breathe into you.
So sleep child no one can touch you now.
No one can hurt you now. Not here. Anymore.

i like oldies, like the bands and songs my dad used to listen to and a just a few singers.
im not sure if oldies(beach boys, beatles, ect.) would go under rock or not. i hate todays rock. i assumed thats what you were talking about in the poll. i also like country, but not todays. although some might be good. but yester years are more my deal. |

metal is such a wide category too. i mean i could say i like metal and mean the number twelve looks like you, evergreen terrace, and as i lay dying. but someone else could say they like metal and say pantera and s**t like that. |

I like rock from all genres, except the sugar coated pop junk...but my favorite rock band of all time is The Doors.
I'm also one of those people that generally listens to anything (except I can't stand country and hip-hop/rap, so I guess that statement's not exactly true); I like opera and jazz. I can't limit myself to only one type of music.
