I would say without a doubt that a tablet is just about one of the most useful tools you can buy. It's so much easier to control than trying to color with a mouse. And pressure sensitivity settings give you so many more options than a mouse as well. |

I definetly agree with Ammotu. The pressure sensitivity is one of the great things that having a tablet gives you. Not only that, you can put drawings underneath a slide of your tablet and trace out the drawing. (But this doesn't always work for me) It gives you a pen and a surface to draw on. (And a mouse). It'll take some time getting use to, but 100% worth it. If you plan on doing more of your artwork on the computer, highly recommened that you get a tablet.
The only bad things i would have to point out are the prices for the sizes. If you plan on getting one, get a Wacom. My first tablet was 9x12 and cost me around $130. It went defected in 6 months. Later, i bought a Wacom, 4x6 for about $80-100. Much more expensive than the other brand. But so far, it has been a very useful partner because of its size. |

Heh, where did you buy your tablet Sanoshi Cross? 'Cause I'm not shopping there...Anyway, the tablet I bought at Fry's was only $20 and I've had it for a year without any problems. Plus it's pretty big (I know for sure that it's bigger than the ones at one of the art colleges where I live XP). I can check the brand and dimensions and post it here later if anyone wants to know.
Plus it came bundled with the graphics program that I'm currently using (Ulead Photoimpact, not as good as Photoshop, but still pretty darn good), so that's a double whammy. XP |

$20!? I got mines at Fry's too, you must take damn good care of your tablet. It all depends on the size, brand and what software it comes with. My first tablet was Aiptek Hyperpen 9x12. Largest of its kind a good $120-130. Never dropped the thing and it goes all defective within half a year.
Wacom is the best of it's kind. My 4x6 size was very pricy compared to the Aiptek brand. Around a $100 for a Wacom you can get a 6x8 size with Painter Corell 8. On my 4x6 i recieved that exact program but demo. I'll have to look up the other programs it gave me.
By the way, sizes matter sometimes. Although a bigger one is nice, i have very little work space so a small one was perfect. I bring my tablet around with me to school to work on projects. But either way, you still draw realitively the same. |

I don't think that was donewith a tablet, it looks way too grainy and low quality to be done with a tablet. Erm...I suggest you buy one becase you get such precise control, I did this piece with a tablet and I know I wouldn't be able to do it with a mouse

a Tablet eh?
well it depends...
if you're doing art. it not only makes it turn out beautifully but also adds a touch you would get if you wanted it to be tradiotional. you feel more lose while doing art with it and it helps bring life to your work.
if you're just getting a tablet because.. I dunno. depends what you would be using it for in general. |

If you are skilled with the mouse you don't need a tablet really.... that is what some of my friends and collegues told, I also know some really great digital artists personally who only use a mouse also for drawing on the PC. The main difference in their works isn't the quality, it is the speed... LineArt high detailed takes you normall over 3 hours to create with a mouse, you can do it in 1 hour with a tablet. The good thing with the tablet is the pressure "sense" of it. If you draw a line with the mouse it has the same thickness on the whole surface, to get the effect of a real inking there, you can take the eraser-tool and form the line that way, in the end you get the same result you would get with a tablet, you just need more time for it. I don't want to say that a tablet is for nothing.... but you can also do great stuff only using a mouse! I myself use both but I must add, that I still prefer the mouse if I make pixelarts... that is a mouse thing! ^_^ _________________ - hmm... did someone say "MUFFIN"? - |

Yeah I agree! Fortunatly I don't have the patience to be 3 hours doing something and if I can speed it up...and other thig is that I'm not very good with the mouse so...kinda like to have more control over what i'm doing. |

every digital pic I do is with a tablet. I love them! they're the best things you can use if you're a digital artist. just go to bestbuy's website to buy 1. wacom tablets are known for really good quality; so, if you can, try to buy 1 from that company, & most tablets are pressure sensitive. they work well with programs like photoshop and paintshop pro. and as for that attached image, it looks like it was done with markers. so, heroracer, you should remove the pic. it's in no way related to the topic. |

Wacom is what I use. I have a smaller "window" to draw on, so mine probably isn't as precise. Wacom is realieable. I've never had a problem. Like I said there's a learning curve, but you'll most likely love it and put it to good use. _________________ Mohawks are beautiful sculptures |

hehe, the tablet from that link is the exact same 1 I use now. yeah, I've had mine for over a year & never had any problems. so, you can definitely rely on wacom. |

Perfect tablet size. Not too big nor too small. I have the 4"x6" Wacom size, although it's small it's still pretty much the same in general. But, yes get that one X3! |
