A mere request to visit one's gallery falls under the purpose of "Self-Promotion" and we have a dedicated subforum for that stuff.
Me, I prefer drawing original characters. But I have drawn official chars occasionally, including some anime. Like, say, Inuyasha.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Me too. I don't generally do fanart (and I definitely wouldn't do Inuyasha because then you have a large hoard of fangirls pining after him in the comments. :/ You're brave. ) unless it's to help develop my own skill (like, say, I'd attempt some Castlevania fanart). ^^; _________________

The screaming horde of IY fangirls has yet to realize I even exist :P
Although, given their somewhat bipolar temperaments towards heart-throbs, they'll either try to "steal" him, or swear a blood oath against me for what I did to him. Or maybe a bit of both.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

I draw anime/manga style. Though at random and mostly not uploaded intervals, I draw un-anime-ly for no apparent reason except maybe my art teacher.
I prefer not to do too much fan-arting, but it constitutes about half my work.
I like my original characters, they can't die when I love them, they turn out perfectly as I like! Hehe....the joys of being able to play God...(not in a sacriligeous sense, but y'know, you really are sort of God of your little plot when you create your own stories) |

Anime is clich. There are only a few that truely stand out. The rest are a dime a dozen. It is also so overdone that it has become uninteresting. It all looks the same as well, and I'm sad to say it, if someone is truely good at anime-style drawing, then their stuff will most likely look exactly like 100's of other's who are also good at. That is why I prefer American/French (non Japanese). It is broader, and you will see a better expanse of style. _________________

I prefer drawing original characters. I usually mix up manga and reality. This is my style. Leave it alone!!! _________________ --Small minds talk about people, average minds talk about events, great minds talk about ideas. I draw original characters, but I still place it under the profile of being anime or manga.
Don't get me wrong, I can draw realistic stuff if you give me a reference, but I never found as fun as drawing things that'd tick the crap outta my art teacher.
People may say it's all the same, but it just depends on who's making it.
I'd have to give and example of how different anime styles can be.
Cowboy Bebop v. Pokemon
compare the style, storyline, etc.
in terms of manga (which is in realtion to anime/ we all know this)
KareKano v. Peach Girl
same as first example.
see?
Now, there are artists, that draw the same because of their predecessors (or artists they just copied) which kinda annoys me. They could at least make a break from what they normally do. That's what I do all the time, every year. I kinda move away from myself, changing either one thing or another. |

Will's right, It starts all looking the same. I have yet too see a true anime drawing that really stands out.
One thing I will say about anime though is that the eyes are quite nice. They influenced my style. One in a while, I will see some anime that's truly unique, artistic, and beautiful, such as the anime done for Kill Bill. Beyond that though, I have little admiration for anime. It's like a big, overblown, ad...its too damn popular.
I hate plain old drawings, and American animations. It's either loaded with potty jokes or just boring.
If you watch only Saturday morning cartoons, yah, you might think that. But there are some fantastic. There's a whole variety of animated movies that are quite amazing and many times serious. To say that our animation is nothing but potty humor, then you're really missing the big picture. I find it as an uneducated attack. There are many different styles by different artist/studios. How dare you say there's no variety!
Each animated movie has its own unique character design, artists, and writers, there's a huge variety.
It seems apparent you haven't been exposed to enough real animation, May I suggest:
Triplets of Bellville: A stunning example of visual humor and great animation. One of the unique styles I have ever seen.
The Iron Giant: A beautiful movie by Brad Bird (worked on Simpson) its animation, facial expressions, and pacing is flawless. My personal favorite. Story of a giant robot crash landing on earth.
The Prince of Egypt: An obscure masterpiece. Unfortunately overshadowed of Rugrats movies when it came out. (The potty humor comes from Rugrats) the best art direction I have ever seen. Animation and lighting frightfully realistic. Based on the old bible story of Moses.
Needless to say, any of the old Disney films are brilliant. See them.
Traditional western animation as expansive and beautiful, how dare you put years of hard work by these artists (Layout, storyboard, directing, animation, and cleanup) down like that? You have no Idea.

I can't see how people could possible want to draw in other styles outside their own. Stop drawing in other's styles! Develop you're own! One of my pet peevs.
EDIT: so it's character disign you want eh?
How about:
Aladdin
Triplets of Bellville
Lion King
Hunchback of Notre Dame
Snow white
Sleeping beauty
Beauty and the Beast
You're crazy.
