I already told you why. Labeling is something for the people to do. End of Discussion. Get over it. Boring, overdone subject. Yes, I post because I continue to say this sucks and I'll complain and whine and say "GOD THIS THREAD SUCKS!" just to make you feel annoyed.

Rolling eyes Wow. Not a single person in this thread has succeeded in referring to Goth as what it actually is. Congratulations. It's a new low.

GOTH:

-- Germanic peoples who invaded Italy/Rome. Probably not the defintion you're thinking of, but it's the most "correct".

-- Architectural style. Also the "correct" concrete one.

-- An early 80s subculture based on literature, music, and style. It is NOT a clothing style alone. It is NOT morbid depression, obsession with death, or a love of the color black. It is NOT spikes and bondage pants and heavy dark makeup. That does NOT make you goth. It makes you someone in a lot of black clothing, period. And/or an angsty teenager.

The original subculture was a welcoming environment for people with similar interests in books, music, and yes, an appearance. But in no way was it some freakfest of kids cutting themselves and writing about dying all the time. There are just as many kinds of Goths as there are kinds of people in the world. There's nothing to do with religion or race or beliefs in general.

If you merely dress in black clothing and dark makeup, you're not Goth, no matter what any other ignorant person labels you as. Self-mutilation and depression aren't elements of that culture. In some cases they were applied to them by others who didn't understand and just interpreted the image as "bad", but in reality, they weren't sitting around writing stupid poetry and cutting up their arms.

If you don't like or can't even name a piece of gothic literature or a musical artist, you're not fuckin' goth! Marilyn Manson and whatever shock artists or "dark" artists are labeled as such today are not gothic. A lot of gothic music was basically poetry set to music (see Bauhaus, for a group that was closest to pop culture and easiest to find).

That is what goth is. And sorry to break it to all the little kiddies out there who like to feel different or special because of the attention they get for being "Goth" (negative or admiration), you're just another regular teen brat. Same as everyone else. You can paint yourself up however you please, but no amount of black makeup will make you different than everyone else.

Does it really matter? Not at all. But in the same way I hate seeing punk insulted by having Good Charlotte and Sum 41 included in it, it's an insult to what was a really cool 80s subculture to have black-wearing mallrats included in it. Most people don't even know what the goth subculture was because it's name has been taken over by these brats.

EDIT: And actual members of the goth culture did not go around saying "omg don't hate me just because I'm different! I'm goth, deal with it." <_<

Ooh.. turned more into a discussion of goth...
The 'cutting yourself, angsty" stuff, is what you see on TV in those annoying teen movies.. It is, however not true..

I also don't think that cliques are so defined, and everyone is a part of one. Yes, some people do fall into certain cliques, but definately not all..

I, for one, have trouble putting myself into a clique.. I am not a nerd/geek in the traditional sense of the word... I like to read, but I don't spend time doing it.. I know nothing about computers... yet I am a mostly A student..
I'm also close to a loner, because I do not have too many close friends. However, I try to be friendly to everyone, and talk to many different people, including punks, goths, nerds/geeks, rappers, the theater people, and tomboys and jocks... I guess the closest 'clique' I could put myself in would be an 'anime nerd'. Howeve, I am not an obsessive fangirl and do not base my life on everything Japanese. Also I have many other interests besides anime...

So, see? Like it's hard for me to put myself into a certain clique, it maybe hard for others; I'll even say most. I mean, that popular blonde that you see around might really be a straight-A student. You never know, because there is just so much to someone's personality..
Wow.. Fallen pwned all of us
Trust her to prove everyone wrong.
The goth thread has been done 3+ times before on this forum alone. I've had practice. Sad

Yeah, if anyone wants to whine about what is or is not "goth", please don't. This isn't the thread for it, I was merely correcting what the "clique" actually is. You're welcome to PM me your hate mail, though, if I've horribly offended your fake sense of self-worth. ^_^

As for cliques in general, there's nothing better than people complaining about them then going on to refer to "jocks" and "preps". First class comedy right there. Like who you want, dress how you want, behave how you want, and stfu about who is what label. Get a hobby or something.

Do I have to have boobs and a vagina to be listened to? Or just a mod? Razz

This has been done soooooooo many times before. Fallen, I'm surprised you actually took the time to write all that again. I would have just gone back to a more recent discussion and copy & pasted the post. Cool

I'm a fast typist. It's faster for me to write it than dig up an old thread and copy and paste.

And no, no one is listened to when kids think they have a big issue to wage war on. Not me, not you, not anyone who has posted some amount of sense in this topic. Just wait.

I scratched my wrist placing a stone tile in an old woman's back yard.

Am I goth now? Surprised
Why are we divided when our oblect is unity and fairness?
The way preps act is sickenning, as if theyre better than everyone else, but are they? The way they act proves they are not. Goth/Punk (which I am apart of), they say its not healthy, they say if you're punk/goth you have to cut, drink, smoke, ect. But do you really? Loners, is it so hard to say hello to someone that is different? Jocks, just like preps they think theyre better than everyone else as well. There are other cliques, but THESE are the ones that effect us the most. There is no abuse like the abuse (phisical or not) you recieve from your peers. What do all of you think of this and how can we fix it?
~Koikaji Saru
Preps aren't that bad. You probably don't know one well enough to know that. They are people just like you and have problems of their own even if it doesn't seem like it because most of them actually have self-confidence. Labels are stupid. Don't let it get to you. I'm in the "no-clique" clique. I could honestly care less. I have popular/prep/ahem "punk"/ etc friends so maybe you shouldn't let a difference in clothes or music make you judge people too quickly. Ah sorry I had to get that off my chest. That was totally pointless. . . . . Oh and sorry if that sounded too harsh...I don't mean to offend.
