Suggestion On Banners

Get rid of the fly banner. It's annoying as hell.

fly banner?
personally, I don't like the mascot banners. I know I might get flamed for saying that, but I really don't. Layz, in all her biggotness, has designed a beautiful site, but someone went off and f*cked it up with those damn mascots. The cat is ok, but the chibi sux. atleast the cat has a pencil, and that makes sense with the theme of FAC.
I'd just throw away all the mascots and mascots contest, but hey, I can still live with it, I mean, its a small price to pay for this cool site.

Here's my list of most-annoying-banner-ads on FAC:

"Duck Hunt" banner: 2/5 annoying. It starts with the old sound of the ducks flying, followed a few seconds later by the old "dog laughing at you" sound. It is quiet after that, however it seems to make my mouse cursor disappear whenever the mouse isn't moving.

"Shoot the Paparazzi" banner: 1/5 annoying. Frequent but quiet sounds of a camera going 'click', that's about it.

"Swat the Fly" banner: 3/5 annoying. Frequent sounds of the fly buzzing around.

Technically the above three shouldn't be allowed since the ads policy says "sounds are allowed only on user interaction".... but anyway.

"Homeland Security Network" banner: 5/5 annoying. No sounds, but it completely screws up FAC's color scheme whenever it appears. Very... brash.

Provide screenshot and I'll complain to the advertiser.

as for the sound one, let me know which banner it is (top or bottom) and I'll look into blocking them.

I know who designed them, and I respect both Raymei and Dragon Goddess Sama. That doesn't mean I can't speak my opinion, it also doesn't mean I have to like their artwork. It's not like I go around dogging their art anyway. It's true, in my opinion, I believe mascots give things a sort of image, and a chibi mascot helps with the childish/youngish image FAC has, because of so many of it's members are so young and most of the artwork here are of this type. Sorry.

And don't call me 'dude', I'm not a stoner anymore.

I didn't realize matt was talking about the ads banners, I like them, somethings wrong with my sound card so I can't hear a thing from them, but they don't bother me.

I have an idea, Denis, more of a thought. I know some of the more devoted members of FAC have jobs, I do, and I wouldn't mind donating to this site... actually, I think I'll make a topic about this instead, that way your more likely to see it and respond...

thought I fixed that and this was a diff complaint. Is it the top banner or the lower banner that causes the problems?

[i]This[/i] banner earns a 3 of 5 on my annoyance scale because, although it doesn't have any sound effects or other distractions, it causes Firefox's GUI to seriously lag. Side effects of this ad include the URL bar not updating when I switch between tabs, the "page loading" icon freezing, and the mouse wheel not working.

I believe it can appear both above and below the FAC banner.

Honsetly though. Don't worry too much about the mascots. Things change, layouts change, mascots change... etc. You can live with it for a lil while longer.

And I take offense to the chibi comment. Although I did not design the character, the one that is up there now was redrawn and colored by me. Damn you!

When the whole layout thing is finished, there may be some redesigned banners and stuff, who knows? As for annoying banners, Dens, that fly one has GOT to go. It's buzzing messes up my music Sad

You're all right. I apologize for my "chibi sux" comment. It was rude and unecessary. I just don't like chibi's. It's a good peice of work, but I hate chibi's. I'm sorry, DG-Sama, if you ever read this.

On a related note: if another contest ever comes up again for mascot's or logo's, I got a few. When I'm done, I'll post a logo up just in case the t-shirts n' caps idea works out.

Also feel free to work on mascots at any time and show them to us. It's not a for sure thing they will be used, but you never know. Wink

In fact it would be appreciated. And don't apologize for your chibi comment. If you do not like it, you don't like it Smile

No need to worry about offending anyone. You're not the only one that dislikes it.

I'd hope for more than believe, It does matter which one. 2 different advertisers.

as for the banners, and layout and mascots working on various stuff.
