Gah. I really dislike people who download full albums then burn them to cd because it's cheaper than buying the official cd from a store. Like fallen said, one or two songs from a cd is fine, but if you download the full album without ever giving a thought to the bands, you deserve to be slapped. The only mp3s I ever download are rare songs, which were usually just released on a cd single ages ago and never seen again - there's no way I could ever buy the cd if it doesn't even exist in a store anymore. T_T

I download music, mainly because there are not many bands i would actually buy the cd of. The only band that i have found to have constantly good songs (in my opinion) is Rush, in which case i DO buy the Cd. Otherwise, i just download 2-3 songs from other bands.

Mainly because you a getting it for free, so the artists get no money from you downloading it.

They don't get any direct money from you buying it, either. Royalties are a tiny part of their income. It's the side effects of poor record sales that hurt the artists.

It was only one or two years ago when I forund the whole, "download music off the internet," kinda thing. And last year, I downloaded a s**t load of music. But, first of all, about half of it was music that isn't even sold in the US, another quarter was stuff my friends just sent to me to keep (god knows where they got that stuff) and the last chunk was all different artists. I usually don't download more than two songs done by the same artist. Downloading full albums is disrespctful of the singer's career. They're singing to make money, support themselves, and to have fun, but for everyone to steal it. My friend steals whole albums and I constantly have to try to convince her not to. I really shouldn't have taught her how to download music.....

Now I have resolved myself to greatly lower teh amount of music I download and just exchange bought CDs with my friends so we can put those on our computers.

I download tons, but only because my computer bogs down if I put on cds instead of playing the mp3s. Instead I usually rip songs off of cds from my cousin and make a list of the cds I actually want. Then, whenever I'm not $900 in debt, I can actually get them. Sadly, I have the intention of getting them and rarely have the cash. I figure they can hold out with their gold piles a while until I can afford a $25 cd.I think the music downloading sites that are lgeal are very beneficial, though- where you pay a dollar a song. That seems much more fair, since you get the ones you want and still pay the artist for them.

I only download one or two songs at a time, and that's only if I REALLY like the song(s). I'm cheap, and don't like to spend money on the internet that much.

I don't download because I have the same reason as many people SHOULD have: If we want the artists' to keep producing quality music, we can't steal from them!

"Downloading music" discussions almost always refer to illegal pirating. Paying for mp3s is still buying music, even though it's technically a download.

i download music, but usually with the intent of eventually buying the cd. also, as reggie mentioned, a lot of bands i like are underground and hard to find, so the only way to get to hear more of their stuff before buying it is downloading. i usually check bands' websites and record label sites first, though, since at least that's legal.

maybe if cool music was easier to find (in cd stores, that is), people wouldn't have to download so often.

But it's a paradox. Because until those groups sell more records, they won't get most store support.
