Interesting points, DF, but it seems like you made the same mistake I did and actually expected something like sentient life forms to exist in that section. However, I'd like to point out that I'd prefer they not know what OOC is. They use it too much.

The thing is, DF, that you encourage them and discourage them in the wrong ways. You encourage them by joining their terrible RPGs and then yell at them rather than trying to reason with them :/ Then again, Nymph tried reasoning with them, too, and no one listens. Nautical Nymph is by far the greatest role-player on FAC Cool

and now she's moved fer RPG, so... yeah.

I think having someone moderate the RPG section would be beneficial. They need to regulate how many RPGs are created and how many RPGs people join. And the mod should generate a few original ideas to try now and then. I tried organizing the RPGs on a web page to help people sort through them and read summaries rather than asking what's going on (which is by far the most annoying thing ever when I put so much work into my posts) but I gave up when the next day there were ten new ones :/

Of course, it doesn't really matter, you know? Because no matter how much work is put into the RPG section, it's going to suck. On the up hand, my dinner's ready and I finally finished transferring LotHS, so I can celebrate by finishing my project on the development of the Elvish language.

i like to rp but i rarely ever do. i hate finding a good rp only to have them 20 pages into it already. quite frankly i don't feel the urge to read through all 20 pages to figure what the hell is going on and if they need (or if there's room) for another character.

world of warcraft works just fine, thank you very much. Cool

Such a person would, almost by definition, have to be a skilled RP'er themself.

Here's another rule I would like to see RP members use: All characters involved in an RP, the host edits the owner/character names and profile information into their first post. It's annoying to have to look through 2-4 pages of character introduction to find the information for the character you need to respond to....

sorry about that guys.. I was probably (pmsing) ontop of being completely annoyed that day by my boss, so there was a little bit of profanity there. Ok A lot of profanity.

Actually, it was just the first time i went into a rp that really irrated me. I don't normally bitch out at the host. Yeah I agree, I have agreed with having someone ruling over the um... forum. Jailcrow you'd be good and so would strata (not that he's a mod... ::poke poke: Confused

Yeah I saw you posting that contest before Jailcrow, sorry for kind of ignore you, but I was kind of busy the last couple of weeks to actually sit down and do some actual good work and a really good well thought out rpg or just plan rp. If you go back throughout my history as a plot maker they have been extensive, but it sometimes takes me a whole long time to think up a really good one. Even I have had the "never ending rp" syndrome in my first couple ones. The one I am hosting now called "Drops of the Sun" just add a plot twists, if we ever go over 200 post count I'll try to end it as fast as possible, because I don't want to waste people's time over something like that. :)

That sounds like a great rule, Strata ^^ I hadn't even thought of that =) Life on the High Seas just made a web site (like I was saying for my contest thing) so people could go in and find the summary and all the character pictures and profiles. That sort of helped since we have so many characters. I visit it all the time just to remember eye colors and the like O.o

Yeah <_< my contest... worst experience on here so far. Very few of the RPers crawl out of their section, so I placed a few advertisements in there to get them to check it out-- and got chewed out by some lame newbie WTF?

Oh, the anger was thick that day, so I understand where you're coming from DF.

I dunno if Strata would have the time to moderate that section with the many helpful things he does around the rest of the site o.o I've voiced a wish to do so before... but that was before I knew the enormous task it would be. It would still be easier if the number of RPs was restricted.

I asked denis if he could delete the really old rps. I mean they don't count for posts and they should be knocked off once no one has rped in it for a month. i mean seriously.

An auto-delete feature would be painless, except that would it affect the pinned threads (RP Rules/Etiquette) too? We certainly wouldn't want [i]them[/i] disappearing after 30 days....

I think after the initial transition takes palce, it wouldn't be as hard to manage it. Just a few things need to happen, I think:

[b]1.[/b] limits on the number of rpgs created by each user
[b]2.[/b] limits of rpgs by genre/movie/game, etc
[b]3.[/b] limits on the number of rpgs you can join
[b]4.[/b] stricter OOC rules (That's what the PM is for

)
[b]5.[/b] deletion of rpgs that don't make the cut, including a quick swipe of th eones that are old right now. (Strata's probably right that it would be easier for a mod to take care of it after that and just delete them when they die, maybe ask the creators if they're done with it.)

--Since this would lower the number of rpgs so drastically, I assume it would also be the moderators job to go in and offer encouragement to the rp-ers, give ideas to help boost a dying plot, check in to make sure every thing is generally doing well. I also said earlier that they would probably expected to generate a few good RP plotlines themselves to keep the market fresh.--

[u]Other possibles:[/u]

[b]5.[/b] organization by catergory and/or level of participation / writing skill that the creator would prefer (maybe that could just be a lable tagged on, but it probably isn't even necessary. It's usually obvious by the first few posts.)
[b]6.[/b] Make it necessary for an rpg idea to get cleared before being posted to be sure it has a plot, etc (assuming this sounds a bit too nazi-ish Very Happy

, but it wouldn't be hard to make it where a person had to be cleared to make a new thread there, would it O.o? I suppose if not, and if they refuse to agree with the rules, it could just be deleted.)

Meh, I wouldn't mind ungodly power. In fact, I wouldn't mind doing the first organization bit if I was allowed, but it really will be a lot of work keeping them under control-- like Fallen said. They'd go crazy if they got wind of this. Apparently they used to RP in all the other sections :/

All of those suggestions sound great. If we had a mod for that section, that'd be great. Now we just need someone who qualifies to do that, I think. DF sounds like a good candidate. =P

Also, I think it'd be a great idea to try to get people who start RPs to build a small website (or get someone to build one for them) for the people RPing, and the character info can be PM'd or emailed to the person hosting the RP. Then they can just edit it into the webpage; everybody wins. This way, you don't have to go *looking* for the bios of people who entered the RP late if you wanted to incorporate some of their bio into your post. And this might also help with the image attachments; that function is abused like God-knows-how in the RP area. <<; I *hate* sidescrolling, especially just to see a hugely oversized picture of your character. >_< What ever happened to [i]describing[/i] what your character looks like?

I have had websites that had some of my Main characters (for aol) bios. I even am going to update my current on to include all my rants and junk about rping too. Smile

I think I should just make a big ol' rp webbie that covers everything that I completely know, But I'd have to find some time to do it and unforuntatly I am completely taken away with one something in the real world.

I (note) will not be here on thursday and friday of this week well into the weekend. Because I am going on a trip to my family, which will not be a pleasant one. Once I come back on monday I still won't have some time, might be on.. might not. Tuesday I am going to VA beach for some dolphin watching ^^; most of the day so I basicly won't be on here for like a week. Please..don't...cry. ....

:) I hope you guys be good while I am gone.

I wouldn't mind being a moderator of the RP section, because, quite frankly someone needs to do it.

or help. At all. I offered to do one for anyone willing to send me the information via PM or e-mail in my RPG contest. The only person who took me up on that offer was NauticalNymph, and I'm PART of her RPG O.o Yeah, they are very easy to navigate, and they're just so much easier for everyone- not to mention the advertisement factor, but no one's interested in that, which is why a few people should be struck down just for good sportsmanship. Keep that in mind if they let you do it, DF.

If it were part of the site, it could be implemented into the rules therefore more publicity and 100% more useage and interest.

It's easy to make a simple directory for the person's character that the person can update and complete for themselves.. I'm not sure about images though because alot of the ones used in RPs are 'borrowed' ( <_< DESCRIBE YOUR CHAR LIKE THE OLD FASHIONED AND FUN WAY!! Grr!

SCORE for never RPGing in my life nor do I plan on it I think. Just never really got into that kind of gameplay. I have watched people play WOW (World of warcraft) and Everquest before a couple times though if that counts in some way
