Well Castle Wolfenstien was the father of the FPS genra so thats in there
Death Race was the first game ever to be banned....consists of blocks(cars) running over stick figures(gremlins)...so thats gotta have metioning
Mortal Combat because after this game was taken to court, the Video Game industry decided to set up the ESRB to rate games for their mature content. That and the game was great in general.
GTA-just because its created such an outcry of either disgust or awe with its interactivity and realism
Halo 1 and 2- greatest game soundtrack ever....plus the record for sales and pre-order
The Splinter Cell series also needs metioning, seeing as that game is so in depth that when you play co-op on live, the NPC's hear you if you talk too loud in your mic. That and the graphics are absolultly superb. No doubt the best to date, if not top three.
then there's the classics that everyone has already put in. _________________ My usual name is Spage...apparently someone else has taken it.

kingdom hearts is a great game, no doubt about it. but I think an "influencial" game would have to be an icon that's been around for a while. kh has only been around for about 3 years. as for the classics well:
final fantasy
everquest
dragonquest
mortal combat
resident evil
sonic...do I really have to finish this title
tomb raider
mario
legend of zelda
street fighter
pac man
grand torismo
asteroids
there are a ton more, but I'd rather not fill the board with g huge list. |

Zelda, I mean, a bunch of games must've been based on the save-the-world storyline that Legend of Zelda started. |
Kingdom Hearts: The rules of an RPG? What, standard turn based battle? Because Tales of Phantasia's got it beat in the live action RPG scene, along with a few other SNES and PS games I can't recall the names of at the moment.
Like maybe Star Ocean? =P And also, SO used the PA system, which you may or may not know about, and it also implemented Item Creation, which I think is one of the most useful things you can every have in an RPG (and thus spawned many, many variations of Item Creation... hello, FF. =P). And considering that it was for the Super Famicon, SO1 had simply amazing work done with the graphics, considering how limited they were. Also considering how much work was done on it, it was probably in its development stages when CT was released. So it's not like it's copying or anything. o.o;
I'd have to go with the Castlevania series. Look! You can have a thorough action game (multiple weapons/weapon combinations/attacks, etc.) with a good plot! <3 _________________

Final Fantasy VII (7, for those who can't read Roman Numeral) really influenced the PS console. When it first came out, many people were simply amazed by the graphics and storyline, which for that time were phenomonal. FF7 really opened the doors to 3-D gaming and RPGs.
Also, I think Fable has inspired quite alot of things. The range of decision your character has, whether being good or evil, really makes the game fun. I enjoyed playing a game where I chose whether I wanted to be a hero or a villan, rather than playing a game where that had been decided for me. |

Megaman Battle Network series is too new to have any influence over the game industry. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

Wow thats kinda harsh, but still they did make an original and creative rpg battle system that others could learn from in the future. It might make a bigger impact if it went 3D though... Silly Capcom and their fear of 3D. |

The problem with judging how influential a game is, is that it can only be done in retrospect. And the older games are more influential as a rule because they were the ones defining the genres we enjoy today. Like the original Legend of Zelda, or Tetris. _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA

The oldest game must be the biggest influance. All the other games started with 'em: mario, zelda, kirby, etc. _________________ I know, my sig sucks. So what? |

I wanna say Bubble Bobble was a pretty influential game but I'm not too sure. Wouldn't it follow along the same lines as Tetris? You know, with hand-eye coordination or whatever going on....and...yeah... |

Bubble Bobble wasn't a puzzle game, it was an action (almost arcade) game. You had two little dinosaurs that spat bubbles which could be used to trap & destroy monsters, and you could also jump on them to reach larger heights... and all levels had a certain time limit beyond which an invincible 'skull' monster would appear and begin pursuing your little dinosaurs.... the game had multiple endings, too. If you fought all the way through levels 1-99 you'd go up against the final boss (I don't remember exactly how I beat him, but I do remember fetching a lot of powerups), but then the game would say you had to beat the 'Special Zone'. To do that you had to be on like level 90 or so, grab a key on one side of the level and then jump/fall to the secret door within a limited amount of time... damn, some of those levels were HARD. There was a level in the 50's range with six enemies on a very high top row shooting lasers down at you, and you had to form a giant ladder of bubbles to climb up there. Then one of the 'Special' levels was simply a blank abyss that you kept falling down and down, where the only things you could stand on were the own bubbles you spat out at the monsters... than again a fight with the final boss, but beat him and the game said you had to beat the boss "with a friend" (or just activate 2P right before delivering the final blow) to get the best ending... which turned out to be some sappy thing about friendship... real kiddy taste to it. But Bubble Bobble was one of the earliest NES games I remember, so.... _________________ Strata here: Nanowrimo - FAC - dA - FA
