[b]Q: WTF is with the "You do not have permission" error message that keeps coming up when I try to post topics or reply in them?

Q: Why can I see the entire forum listing as a Guest, but not when I'm logged in?
Q: Where is the __________ forum section?
Q: Why can't I send PM's or add a user avvie/signature?
Q: Why can't I Search?
Q: Where the heck is my "edit" button?

Ever since May 1st, 2005, we at FAC instituted a "Sandbox" policy regarding forum access. We designed this system to help accustom newbies to our forum's layout in stages, to provide them with a place to meet other new members (instead of feeling like the only "new guy" on the block), and to cut down on the number of "Hi! I'm New!" type threads that (until then) would be posted in places like Site Discussion or General -- in short, to raise the standard of behavior in our forums.

This is accomplished via three new user groups: 'Baby', 'Toddler', and 'Teen'. Now, when you register on FAC, you start out at 'Baby' level and can only view the Sandbox and Help areas of the forums. As you participate in these areas of the forums, you quickly grow to the 'Toddler' group, and then to the 'Teen' group, before finally reaching standard 'Member' status.

During this period of 'initiation', your view of the forums will expand and reveal more sections of the forum, HOWEVER, your ability to post in those areas of the forum may be limited -- so do not be surprised if you receive a message saying "you do not have permission" to post in certain areas of the forum, and please don't start yet another thread asking why. We're tired of answering this same question over and over again, which is why this thread is pinned, and a pie in the face for anyone who keeps asking.

Please be aware: Once you have reached full Member status, you will no longer be able to post in the "Introduce Yourself" section. This rule is in place to keep that area organized, and to prevent spamming of that area by older members.

Also, due to the nature of this change, most existing members were also sorted into the 'Baby' group, regardless of all previous posts or how long they've been registered on FAC. If you have not participated on the FAC forums since May 1st, 2005, your view of (and privileges on) the FAC forums will appear 'restricted' from what they were before the Sandbox system went into effect.

There is but one simple solution to your problem: [b]Post![/b]

Since the Sandbox system relies on your post count, if you are already above the regular member threshold, then all you need to do to get back to your regular member status is to make a few posts in what areas you can (like Show & Tell). You will rise through the initiation stages quickly and be back to your normal Member status in approximately three posts.

In short, just keep calm and ride it out. Participate in the forums available to you, and you'll be back to normal before you know it.

Thanks for this, Strata. o.o; I just loggedd on and saw so many loacked topis, all about the same thing... >_< I would have thought that most of those people who asked for help would have investigated first before adding another thread. Especially a lot of them posted the problem in the thread title. I was sure that people would have though "oh, that looks like it's the same as my problem" and looked at the already-posted threads before deciding to make their own. >_<

And Higes_wolf, to answer your question: Access to the Sandbox area is currently for newbies and site staff only. It disappears shortly after you gain (or regain) full member status.

A link to this topic should be included on the blocked access page. This page was my last attempt at trying to figure out what was going on (after repeated sign-ins and outs and excessive back button pressing) otherwise I was gonna give up and just never use the forums. <_<
