I'm sure this has already been brought up but I didn't see it in any of the other topics... but I was thinkn maybe in the FAC news or something there could be an artist spotlight like once a month. I think that would be a great way for some of the less popular artists with tons and tons of skill to get more deserved notice. There could be a vote once a month in the forums for a selected group of 5 artists or so. _________________ |

Actually, I don't think that has been brought up before. At least not exactly like that. There has been a couple suggestions of, like, "moderator's choice" n' stuff.
I like it. This here's a woman with ideas, people. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |

Well I was thinkn the list to be voted on could be mods choice.. with of course suggestions by other members. I know that almost all the artists in the existing unknown artists topic deserve spotlights. _________________ |

It'd be kind of cool to pick particular pictures, too. Something like best cartoon pic, best realistic pic, most imaginative, ect. each month. Maybe that's too much to handle each month. I dunno. Just an idea. _________________ |

Sounds like a good idea, but if everyone would vote, the artists of the month would always turn out to make stuff fangirls like, because they are the most fanatic. Make sense? |

Yeah, but too give more people the spot light it would probably only be fair to let someone win once a year. _________________ |

see this is why I say that mods would take into consideration the opinions of certain members, and they would make the final list to vote from. Get it? That is my idea... although it is a lil more work for the mods out there.... sorry But I think it would be a good idea to keep the super talented artists interested, and make them feel appreciated. A lot of them get very few comments, when some crappy ms paint pic of a scribbily sonic gets tons of comments. _________________ |

Maybe people feel intimidated by super good drawings and will only comment on stuff on their level.... This actually makes sense |

What if a certain artist isn't posting new stuff this month? Then you could hardly call them artist of the month, right? |

Carter, i love you, you crazy son of a bitch of a god damn whore you! That's a great idea. See, hockey whores do have brains *chuckles and waves* Once again carter, i'm reminded why i like you.
Okay, here's my opinion since your getting all fussy about it. Sheesh, pmsing sweetie? I know i am right now haha. Yeah.
Okay, i think it would be great if we could get the users to to vote for the artist of the month or so. But as you said, in more than just one area, like realistic, anime, painting, etc, whatever, you get the idea. I also agree that in the end, it shoudl be the Staff who come up with the winners and here's why.
We spend all day approving these drawings, we spend all daying organizing these drawings, starring at these drawings. And so we probably have a pretty damn good idea of who's what and have people who stick out in our mind. We aren't just going to see who this one group of users voted for, and think "well, they really seem to liek this person, so i guess they really are good and stand out compared to the others"
And everyone on the staff has shown maturity, and have acted fairly and taken care of people on this site, whether they always think so or not, we do. I know there are people i've been notcing since cleaning up the categories and approving things, and have been thinking "Wow, why doesn't anyone look at this persons work! Why are there no comments! This is amazing work" and no one even seems to know their alive and submitting art that really deserves attention.
I think it's a good idea, and maybe Denis will pick up on it and hopefully like it. I'd gladly help. ^_^
And lexar, you don't have to be shelling out work all month long to ge recognized for what good work you've done in the past. Look at awards given out in the world, they aren't given out as they hand out the work. They tend to be given out for past projects that grabbed our attention and did something to captivate us. |

No it doesn't matter if they havn't posted within the month. Because a lot of them really don't post stuff all the time. This is of course up for arguement. In my opinion it doesn't matter if they have posted within the month. But that is only my opinion.
Yes and Lasher I agree that is why mods and site helpers should really pick the entries/winners. Cleaning the categories and doing the approval panel ya really get a sense of those who are deserving, but usually lack any comments. It would also cut down on the fangirls voting for the person who draws the hottest anime guys This would be based on skill and talent I think. And yes there should be like categories such as realism, anime.. so on whatever... _________________ |

A lot of the really great artists don't post every month because shit takes time. If I could crank out good stuff all month every month, I'd be sittin' on a pile of cash right about now. Artist of the Month doesn't mean who posted the best work that month. Just who's being recognized at that particular time. And generally, it's the ones who don't post that often that get passed over because they only have one piece every now and then, vs some people that post drawings every day.
EDIT: "It would also cut down on the fangirls voting for the person who draws the hottest anime guys" Guess that rules out my reasoning for votin' the new chick who drew Axl n' Sebastian Bach...oh wait, she's wicked talented. _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. It takes you that long to finish your pictures? I can't stay behind the paper for more than 2 perhaps 3 hours, it just gets boring when I have to shade and stuff. |

I post pics like once every two months sometimes... cuz although my pics are not up there with most of the talented fac artists.. I still put tons of effort into em and one pic on average takes me like... possibly 9-10 hours in total... _________________ |

Heh, yes. On average I'd say 15-20 hours. Not everything I put up takes that long, but the good stuff does. Hell, "Last Chance Ride" took 6 months because I'd work on it for five minutes at a time during classes. Got a Motley Crue picture I started in...August. Still not finished. Then again, I'm really slow. Doesn't take everyone that long. But people like Nimra on DA will only post something new every couple months. And I don't draw lineart, so basically that whole 20 hours is nothing but shading. And more shading, and more shading, and more shading...sometimes for a bit of a change, I'll do some shading...
I don't remember her name here. Just DA. Starts with an N here... _________________ "I care about people as much as I care about lawn furniture" - Dexter/Michael C. Hall |
