Should Main Characters Die?

I actually prefer when the main character dies. I'd like to see more things were the baddie preveals. Good doesn't always win....in fact in reality it's basically a 50/50 chance on who preveals. The one who wins is the one who is better equiped for it. Besides no one is immortal.

Death of an important character adds more emotion and deepens the plot quiet a bite as well.

Min characters should die sometimes,likeSpike from cowboy bebop. It was so sad. Now what Maes Hughes dies!!!!! Its not Right!! Poor Ellisa. I cried when Hughes died. I couldnt stand the pain, im still sad Sad

I agree. As long as it fits the plot, I'm fine with it! As a matter of fact, I wrote a story-line for a manga of mine where the main character died in the end to absolutely scare the readers. I like sad endings. The book is supposed to end with a picture of her dead along with another character, and when you turn the page, all it is is black. Wink

But that's just my opinion of a good ending.

I like sad endings too. They feel most satisfying to me for some reason.*shrugs* dunno. People say I'm weird for it.

Yeah...its just nice knowing nothing else can happen to them because their dead and all...its really ends it...it doesnt make you wonder..depending on how they die of corse^_^

some times director, authors , or artist kill of the mian character to give there show and edge like Cowboy Bebop

I think killing main characters can be a good thing. It can add to the storyline, create even more drama and tension and influence the other characters' development as the show goes on. Spoilers for Neon Genesis Evangelion and Martian Successor Nadesico:

In Evangelion, Asuka's death at the hands of the Eva series was pretty damn gruesome. Plus she's the last person I thought I'd feel sorry for, so that scene was pretty powerful to me.

In Nadesico, Gai Daigohji seems to start of as a pretty central character, before he is abruptly killed in the third episode. The protagonist Akito is unable to get over his death, and this affects his actions and the actions of others throughout the remainder of the series. The Admiral's suicide and Akito's hasty acceptance of Skomo's friendship are examples of this.

Even though its a sad thing to see the main character die, in some cases it would be a good thing. Its would give the show some suspence, drama and probably excitment.

Some animes can carry on without a main character, like DBZ. Theres loads of chunks where Goku ain't there, proving the series can suvive without him and true he's died to many times in that series.

It all depends how they die and what they die for. If they die from a fight over, lets say, a movie then thats just stupid. They would have to die either from a disease(which is still kinda stupid), or from a noble cause.It really doesnt matter if they are the main characters or not, just give them a good reason to die.
