Yeah, it's human instinct to like a good beat, but all rap is is a beat, some sounds and stuff in the background and some untalented 'artist' saying crap that comes out of their head. <_< Sorry if this has been done b4 but IT'S JUST GETTING ON MY LAST NERVE! Surprised

I see it as Retards Attempting Poetry. People have different taste to music that's why, it seems here alot of people like punk, rock, metal, all that, and a short amount likes rap, hip hop, n such, or else I havn't gotten around lately, but that's how I see rap.

That was a typo. Surprised

I think that whatever the music industry throws at 'cha, ppl start to think it's 'cool'. One thing's for sure, rock and most of all the other music genres will outlive rap. Smile

It takes an incredible amount of talent to do what they do. I generally don't like it, and find it uninteresting as well. However, that's no reason to go saying they're untalented, or 'retards attempting poetry.' Seriously, go to a poetry slam, you'll find it's really not that different. The words may (or may not) be more interesting, inspiring, and meaningful than some of the popular rap artists out there, but the essentials are still there. Also, not all rap is the crap you hear coming from the radio, mtv, bet, or any other shoddy mode of brainwashing the masses into thinking what's popular is the only thing that exists.

Look past MTV and VH1 and Fuse or whatever it is you get. Popular rap artists are no more representative of rap as a whole than Good Charlotte and Linkin Park are of rock n' roll/metal. All genres of music have fallen in the toilet in the last ten years, including rap. The good artists are those not selling platinum records and doing national tours because there's no market for art right now. It's all pop, rap is pop, rock is pop, the new fake punk is pop, it's all pop.

The problem is that no one knows about any good popular rap artists that there used to be. Everyone knows Aerosmith, the Beatles, Stones, AC/DC, Zeppelin, Sabbath, etc. existed and are representative of what rock is. Good Charlotte and the modern MTV artists suck, but the genre as a whole doesn't. Find someone who can recommend rap artists that aren't Eminem and you'll find a lot that don't just write about bitches n' hos.

I personally hate the style and can't stand the listen to it, but it's no less valid than any other genre.

fallens right, all geners have fallen, I noticed that for a while. All these new artists, slipknot, bowling for soup, 50 cent, and all these modern bands, all geners lost the touch. Yeah, and rap what talent do the artists have, talking about bitches and hos? It's all stupid, all that rap artist talk about is jackin' s**t, doing hos and all that s**t, no one wants to listen to that, cept that kids today like it because they grew up with liking it when they began to listen to it. To me eminem is only different in what he talks about, he talks about losses I guess, killing, and other stuff, from what I heard, but his music is annoying anyway. But yeah all the geners today are not what the geners where back with zeppelin, sabbath n such. Correct me if everything I said is wrong.

It's more the industry that has changed, rather than the artists. There's still a lot of people out there who should be making records, but the industry gives artists one shot to go platinum before dumping them. It's near impossible to do anything new or original and have it be popular right away. Most legendary artists weren't hits from the beginning, it took time and promotion to get them out there.

Today, labels go for the guaranteed pop success, make some money, then find a new one.

so all that explains why all these small bands didn't get much anywhere?

I'm not sure I understand the question. I was trying to say that modern rap (and any other genre) sucks because instead of a few pop artists and some good artists, labels have evolved to 100% money making pop and don't waste their time with those who may take awhile to become popular.

Any group who isn't doing what's fashionable and easy to digest will be left out.

But such is the nature of commercialization. Once it becomes a product, it will eventually be ruined. Happened to rock (although that was a slow process), happened to punk (the fastest), happened to metal, happened to hair bands, happened to grunge, and has happened to rap. Sad It's probably happened to country, but I can only name maybe two country singers period.

4am rambling. May or may not make sense. You have been warned.

Yes, country is no different. Especially after the 911 thing...god I can't count how many artists exploited that. Not to mention how less country-like it's become as it keeps trying to blend with the more popular genres to stay 'cool.' Either way, whatever, the industry just keeps making everything more and more generic.

Ah well, it gives people like him a reason to live. Though I will admit to having bad taste in music on several levels (I like Pearl Jam for god sakes... Wink, but I wouldn't buy any of their albums). Hell, everyone has bad taste in music one way or another. Ok ramble ramble ramble...blather blather...rah rah..

But yeah, the smaller bands are, believe it or not, better off staying that way. As much as I'd like to see Enter The Haggis or Brother climb the charts, it's much more fun having a smaller group following. That's not to say all popular music is bad either, though... ah hell, who gives a s**t, like what you like.. just don't get pissed when someone says what you like is bad music.

This may just be the most intelligent post that I have ever read on any forum ever. ^_^

In my opinion, rap is very irritating, give me Rush any day Smile
